Hulk Smashes Box Office Records

Universal's Hulk proved to be a massive force at the box office in its first week of release, grossing an estimated total of $62.6 million for the weekend of June 20, the Hollywood trade papers reported. The total easily surpasses the former box office record for a June release, set in 1999 by
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me with a total take of $54 million in
its opening weekend.

Hulk is the seventh consecutive Marvel Comics film to debut at number one.
Of those films, only Spider-Man and X2 had larger opening earnings, with $114.8 million and $85.6 million respectively. Hulk now ranks as the number five film of 2003, the trade papers reported.

Meanwhile, Disney's Finding Nemo dipped to number two in its fourth week with an estimated gross of $20.5 million, bringing its total to about $228 million. Bruce Almighty fell one spot to number four with about $10 million for a total of about $210.7 million. And rounding out the top 10, Matrix
Reloaded added about $4 million to its cumulative total of about $262 million to date, the trade papers reported.
