(Chicago) -- Contrary to recent news reports, Double Door (1572 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park) has no intention of dropping the curtain. Over the past ten years, the venerable live music venue has been a mainstay in Chicago’s vibrant live music community, and will continue to showcase local and national talent nightly. “Double Door will remain a part of the fabric of Chicago’s rich arts and entertainment community for years to come,” states Andrew Barrett, owner and manager of the club.
Recent negotiations between the owner of the building and the principals at Double Door have been focused around continuing and extending the life of the business, not around terminating what has been a positive relationship over the last decade. “There is no truth to the rumors that are swirling. My partners and I are negotiating a lease extension and we fully expect this matter to be resolved in the upcoming days,” states Barrett.
Opened in 1994, Double Door set the bar for live music in an intimate setting in Chicago. Bands that have graced the stage include Smashing Pumpkins, Kid Rock, Veruca Salt, Liz Phair, Henry Rollins, Cheap Trick, Bush, Wesley Willis and the Fiasco, Common, Tenacious D, Urge Overkill, and countless others. The club shot to national stardom when the Rolling Stones played there in 1997. For more information, contact 773.489.3160 or check out www.doubledoor.com.
