DESPITE rumours that cast doubt on his participation in the project, recently married actor Nicolas Cage will be in Melbourne in February to start work on the action blockbuster Ghost Rider.

Cage, 40, is expected to arrive in town early in the month to prepare for his role as Johnny Blaze in the movie which starts filming at Central City Studios, Docklands, on February 14.
There is no word on whether he will be accompanied by his latest wife, 20-year-old former sushi waitress Alice Kim.

Cage married Kim on July 30. He was previously married to Lisa Marie Presley and Patricia Arquette.

Directed by Mark Steven Johnson, who made the Ben Affleck-Jennifer Garner hit, Daredevil, the $51 million adaptation of the marvel comic book series will be the most expensive film shot in Melbourne.

The storyline follows Blaze, a circus motorcycle stuntman, who is tricked by Satan into becoming the Spirit of Vengeance.

The film is expected to shoot at various locations around Melbourne.

FILMING on the eagerly awaited Australian drama Candy has been pushed back after the film's director Neil Armfield was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Armfield is understood to have undergone surgery for his condition this week.

According to a spokesman for the production, he is expected to make a full recovery, but work on Candy has been postponed for five weeks. Pre-production will begin on January 31, with filming expected to start in Sydney in early March.

Armfield has assembled a powerful cast including Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush, Heath Ledger, Abbie Cornish, and Garry McDonald to star in the adaptation of the Luke Davies novel.

The storyline follows the dramatic decline of a couple, who are not only in love with each other, but are equally besotted with drugs.

Noni Hazlehurst and Tom Budge have also been cast.

Despite the delayed shooting schedule, the production spokesman said the cast was still committed to the film.

The postponement will give Ledger the chance to enjoy his new Sydney home -- a $4.45 million, four-level, five-bedroom mansion he bought recently
