Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Travis Tritt and Hank Williams Jr. will take part in a tribute to Johnny Cash during the 37th annual Country Music Association (CMA) Awards. Set for Nov. 5 at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House, the event will be broadcast live on CBS in the U.S., and will be seen on BBC Two in the U.K. and the Nine Network in Australia.
All five performers paying tribute to the late "Man in Black" are also participating in the Nov. 10 Musical Tribute to Johnny Cash in the same venue. As reported yesterday, actor Tim Robbins will host that memorial show, which will also feature performances by John Mellencamp, Rodney Crowell, Marty Stuart, Dwight Yoakam, George Jones, Rosanne Cash, Jack Clement, Steve Earle and Larry Gatlin. Highlights will air in a two-hour special Nov. 15 on CMT.
Cash, who died Sept. 12 at the age of 71, is nominated for four CMA Awards: vocal event of the year for "Tears in the Holston River," a collaboration with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, single and music video of the year for his rendition of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" and album of the year for "American IV: The Man Comes Around" (American Recordings/Lost Highway).
"The day before Johnny died, his longtime manager Lou Robin called to tell me that Johnny was happy about his nominations and he wanted to attend the CMA Awards," CMA Executive Director Ed Benson recalls. "Tragically, that wasn't meant to be, but his music and life will be celebrated by an extraordinary collection of artists, contemporaries and friends. Johnny Cash was an international ambassador for country music -- a musical trailblazer throughout his life -- and we hope to capture a small part of that legacy on the CMA Awards."
Also added to the CMA Awards performance lineup is Little Jimmy Dickens, who will join Brad Paisley for his rendition of "Celebrity." The performance will also feature Trista Rehn of ABC's "Bachelorette" and actor William Shatner, both of whom appeared with Dickens in the video for the song, and Anthony Clark and Mike O'Malley of the CBS sitcom "Yes, Dear."
Bluegrass favorite Rhonda Vincent will join previously announced duet partners Dolly Parton and Norah Jones to perform an as-yet-unannounced number.
They join previously confirmed performers Gary Allan, Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Terri Clark, host Vince Gill, Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett, Buddy Jewell, Toby Keith, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Patty Loveless, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Joe Nichols, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, George Strait, Shania Twain and Darryl Worley.

What would you expect from a thong-loving guy whose new MTV show is called "Wildboyz" and co-stars the great Steve-O? Early yesterday morning, Miami Beach cops found Chris Pontius, a 29-year-old "Jackass" graduate, passed out on the hood of a car.
He was, of course, drunk and naked (but you probably could have figured that one out). When cops woke Pontius, according to the below incident report, he became agitated and told one officer, "I'm going to kick your posterior." Amazingly, the woozy Pontius actually used the word posterior--the term wasn't substituted in the report for the word ass. After Pontius ignored police directions, he was pepper sprayed by cops and bundled off to a local hospital for a mental observation (per Florida's Baker Act). Pontius, whose new series debuts this Sunday, was released after an MTV representative vouched for his, um, sanity. Pontius, who was not charged with a crime, told police that he was not injured, nor was he the victim of foul play or a "prank" by friends.
British punk legends THE EXPLOITED have been banned from playing in Mexico City because city officials are concerned about a possible outbreak of violence following the riot in Montreal earlier this month.
THE EXPLOITED, who never made it to the Montreal gig after they
were stopped at the Canadian border, will be embarking on a South American tour in November. This tour will see them head to Argentina for the first time since frontman Wattie declared that the Falklands are British forever whilst on stage at a show in Buenos Aires over 10 years ago.
Confirmed dates are as follows:
Nov. 21 - Monterrey, MEX @ Cafe Iguana
Nov. 27 - Lima, PER @ Teatro Raja Tabla
Dec. 04 - Sao Paulo, BRA @ Direct TV Hall
Dec. 05 - Curitiba, BRA @ Via Reboucas
Dec. 06 - Santiago, CHL @ Estadio Chile
Dec. 07 - Buenos Aires, ARG @ Hangar
Halle Berry, who stars in the upcoming comic-book movie Catwoman, told SCI FI Wire that the film develops its own mythology for the well-known character. "We're a month into [production], and it's really been a lot of fun," Berry said in an interview while promoting her upcoming thriller film Gothika. "One of the things I like about this script, I'm going to say, is that we acknowledge that there are other Catwomen of the past."
Berry added, "So it's not like I'm trying to be the Catwoman. We acknowledge that we believe in our script there are nine Catwomen, and I'm one. I'd be, like, the fifth one. So that gives me leeway to be my own version of a Catwoman. I don't need to be like Michelle Pfeiffer [in Batman Returns] or Eartha Kitt [from the 1960s Batman TV series]. It's my own 2004 version of what a Catwoman would be today."
What would that be? "You have to see the movie," Berry said. As for her much-publicized new catsuit, she said, "[It's] great. Much more comfortable than my X-suit [costume from the X-Men movies]." Catwoman is currently shooting in Vancouver, B.C., with an eye to a summer 2004 release.
Set in Lake City (ie, not Gotham City), this is the story of Patience Price (Berry), a graphic artist who is murdered when she finds out a dark secret about the cosmetics company she works for, Avenal Beauty, which is a front for criminal exploits of the husband (Wilson) and wife (Stone) team that run it. Price is brought back to life, however, by an Egyptian Mao cat who is indebted to Patience for saving its life. Reborn with a new attitude, Patience Price becomes the new Catwoman and sets out to see vengeance for her murder and to stop the evil doings of Avenal Beauty.
The stepdaughter of legend JOHNNY CASH, and daughter of country singer JUNE CARTER CASH has been found dead.
Rosey Nix Adams was found yesterday (October 26). Her body lay alongside Jimmy Campbell, a Nashville fiddle player, in a parked bus in circumstances the Montgomery Country Sheriff's department believe to be "suspicious", according to the BBC.
The news will come as a shock to the Cash family, who have lost both Johnny and June in the past five months.
The pair are believed to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning, though drug-related items were found at the scene.
Kirt Webster, spokesperson for the family, issued the following statement: "The Cash and Carter families are shocked and deeply saddened by the untimely death of Rosey Carter Adams. The family has suffered greatly this year by the successive passing of Rosey's mother, June Carter Cash, and her stepfather, Johnny Cash."
Johnny died on September 12 this year following diabetes complications, aged 71.
As previously reported on NME.COM, a Johnny Cash box set will be released at the end of next month, and features 64 previously unreleased tracks. A tribute gig also takes place next month, on November 10, and features tributes from Bono, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.
Doug Bradley, the English actor best known as Pinhead in the Hellraiser film series, told the Brownsville (Texas) Herald newspaper that there is talk of teaming his character up with Michael Myers of the Halloween movie series. "At this point in fact, Dimension Films are planning a Hellraiser/Halloween crossover," a la this year's Freddy vs. Jason, Bradley told the newspaper.
Bradley emphasized that the proposed matchup is only in the planning stage. "They are hoping to have it out by Halloween next year," he said. "That would be pretty fast, but that's their plan."

Jim Carey's next adventure will be as Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man.
Carey has signed on the for the big screen version of the classic TV show that originally starred Lee Majors as Austin.
The movie will be written and directed by Todd Phillips. Phillips has just wrapped up work on the $470 million production of Starsky and Hutch which features Snoop Dogg in the role of Huggy Bear.
The Six Million Dollar Man was about Colonel Steve Austin, a government agent who made into a bionic man after an accident and then becomes somewhat of a superhero. The show was based on the novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin.

Doro Pesch's first-ever DVD, entitled "Für Immer", is scheduled for release on December 1.
A two-disc set, "Für Immer" (view cover here) contains a complete show recorded in October 2002 in Balve, Germany and loads of extra special highlights and bonus material: backstage footage, a 35-minute documentary, bootleg stuff and a lot of videos from the early days. Cover artwork was handled by Geoffrey Gillespie.
As previously reported, Doro will be joined by MOTÖRHEAD's Lemmy, SAVATAGE's Jon Oliva, and Blaze Bayley (ex-IRON MAIDEN, WOLFSBANE), among others, at the veteran German metal singer's 20-year anniversary show on December 13 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Pesch is expected to perform material spanning her entire career, including a couple of early WARLOCK numbers featuring a guest appearance by several ex-members of the long-defunct outfit. Special merchandise will be sold at the event, which will include additional performances by SAXON and CIRCLE II CIRCLE.
A massive collection of previously unreleased John Cash recordings recorded with Rick Rubin will be released soon and it will include a duet with Nick Cave.
Cave will be heard with Cash on the song 'Cindy' on disc three of the five CD 'Unearthed' package due next month.
The five disc set will include out-takes and unused songs from the four American Recordings albums produced by Rubin, an album of new songs and a compilation.
In this new collection we will hear Cash's interpretations of Steve Earle's 'Devil's Right Hand', Roy Orbison's 'Down The Line' and Neil Young's 'Heart of Gold' and 'Pocahontas'.
Discs one to three are titled 'Who's Gonna Cry', 'Trouble In Mind' and 'Redemption Songs'.
Disc four is a new album titled 'My Mothers Hymn Book'. The 15 songs on this disc were all personal to Johnny and taken from his mother's book of hymns that she sang to him as a child.
Disc five will be the best of the previously released American Recordings albums.
Tom Petty, Fiona Apple and the late Joe Strummer will also be heard through-out the boxed set singing for the first time with the country music legend.
The 64 track collection will be released in November.
For months on end, her face was splashed across television screens around the country. Everywhere you looked, there was the little girl prancing and sashaying in ball gowns or cowgirl outfits. She seemed to be bursting with life, only she was long dead.
The sad saga of JonBenét Ramsey captured the interest of the nation and put the town of Boulder, Colorado, under the spotlight. This shocking JonBenét Ramsey: The E! True Hollywood Story, premiering Oct. 26 at 8 p.m., focuses not on the brief and bizarre life of this little girl but rather on her violent death and the devastating aftermath.
Watch as investigators make several crucial missteps early in the case. Learn how politics may have slowed the investigation. And look into the strange world in which this little girl lived.
The Ramseys long remained under the "umbrella of suspicion," but a new look at the evidence indicates that an unknown intruder was most likely the cause of her death.
NEW YORK (AP) -- You've got to admit there's some poetic justice to it: a company feuding with Johnny Rotten over the release of a vintage punk rock box set.
Rhino Records is releasing a four-CD, 100-song punk retrospective on Tuesday, titled No Thanks!: The '70s Punk Rebellion.
But that wasn't its original name.
The company wanted to call the box, Ever Get the Feeling You've Been Cheated? For music trivia buffs, those were the words spoken into the microphone by Johnny Rotten as the Sex Pistols left the stage after their final concert before breaking up in 1978.
Then Rotten, born John Lydon, found out about Rhino's plans when he was interviewed this summer by a Washington Post reporter.
"It's a (expletive) insult to be using my quote to back up product that I have nothing to do with," he told the Post. "To my mind, that's fraudulent marketing, plain and simple. I don't care how much homage they pay to me in the liner notes. They want to use me from a distance and I find that just unacceptable."
Lydon conveyed the same message to Rhino, said Marc Salata, product manager of the box set.
Rhino was already disappointed because the Sex Pistols wouldn't license any of their songs for the project. The box includes the Clash, Ramones, Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, the Jam and Patti Smith -- with the Pistols a major hole.
The title, "No Thanks!," has dual meanings, Salata explained. At the time, the punk bands were saying, "no thanks" to the popular music of the day. And although many of the musicians are revered today, they received relatively little public support at the time.
Left unspoken is a "no thanks" to the Sex Pistols.
Rhino has launched an ad campaign that lists all the bands appearing on their box, and "bands that just said, 'no thanks:' the Sex Pistols.
"Here are 100 tracks to tell 99 per cent of the story," Rhino says. "For the rest, dust off your copy of Never Mind the Bollocks," the first Sex Pistols album.
Even Salata admits Lydon showed a certain punk rock spirit in telling Rhino to get lost.
"We didn't want to pick a fight with John Lydon," he said. "But it doesn't seem too difficult to pick a fight with John Lydon."
Daredevil director Mark Steven Johnson has struck a deal with MGM for Succubus, a horror film with comic elements, Variety reported. Johnson will direct the movie after he completes Ghost Rider with Nicolas Cage, the trade paper reported.
Succubus deals with a cult of female demons who use their supermodel looks to seduce and steal the souls of men, the trade paper reported. Johnson will produce it with his Horseshoe Bay partner Gary Foster.
KRAFTWERK will be making their first and only TV appearance anywhere in the world at this year's MTV EUROPE MUSIC WARDS which take place on November 6 in EDINBURGH.
The legendary electronic music pioneers be following the success of their reworking of 'Tour de France' as a soundtrack album. The band also plan to embark on a world tour in 2004.
The Flaming Lips and The Chemical Brothers will also play a live outside broadcast at 'MTV in The Gardens' which will be beamed live from Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens into the awards ceremony.
As previously reported on NME.COM, The White Stripes and The Darkness are set to perform at the event, which will be hosted by Christina Aguilera in the city's Western Harbour Ocean Terminal Arena.
Also confirmed to perform are Beyonce, Kylie, Travis, Pink , Sean Paul and Dido.
Presenters already lined-up for the event include Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Laurence Fishburne, Naomi Campbell, Perry Farrell & Dave Navarro, Pharrell Williams and Kelly Osbourne.
The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on MTV UK & Ireland on November 6 at 8pm with more performers and presenters yet to be announced.
The Man in Black is reaching out to fans from beyond the grave.
Next month Johnny Cash not only becomes the focus of an all-star concert, but also a just-announced five-CD box set featuring Cash's music and memories.
Titled Cash Unearthed and due out November 25 from American Recordings/Lost Highway, the set contains 79 tracks recorded over the past 10 years, including 64 never-before-heard recordings from the singer who died last month at age 71 of diabetes complications.
Produced by Rick Rubin, who launched Cash's comeback effort in 1994, the music was culled from recording sessions for 1994's American Recordings, 1996's Unchained, 2000's American III: Solitary Man and last year's American IV: The Man Comes Around.
"The last 10 years with American [Recordings] have been the glory days for me," Cash said in a September 2002 interview with the Associated Press.
The first three discs, respectively subtitled Who's Gonna Cry, Trouble in Mind and Redemption Songs, include Cash's rendition of Steve Earle's "Devil's Right Hand," Roy Orbison's "Down the Line" and Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" and "Pocahontas."
Disc four, titled My Mother's Hymn Book, has a more spiritual bent. The 15 solo acoustic songs performed stem from Cash's mother Carrie's book of hymns she taught him as a child.
The fifth CD features a variety of hits from Cash's Grammy-winning collaborations with Rubin, including "Solitary Man," and his recent remake of Nine Inch Nail's "Hurt," a winner at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
Other material unearthed includes some of Cash's unreleased duets, including Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" with Joe Strummer, Cat Steven's "Father and Son" with Fiona Apple, Chuck Berry's "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man" with Carl Perkins, "Cindy" with Nick Cave, and "Like a Soldier" with Willie Nelson.
Unearthed also contains a hefty clothbound book featuring one of the singer's final interviews, in which he and Rubin discuss creating such a monumental body of work with a track-by-track discussion of each song. (Rubin and Cash had been working on his next release, tentatively titled American V, just before Cash's death.) The interview also includes comments from daughter Roseanne Cash, son John Carter Cash, Tom Petty and more.
Fans will get to hear more of Cash's musical brethren wax nostalgic when Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Steve Earle, Hank Williams Jr., Jack Clement, Larry Gatlin, Sheryl Crow and Roseanne Cash gather on November 10 for a tribute concert.
In addition, a new biography of Cash, Johnny Cash--He Walked the Line, by Garth Campbell, is due out next month and a biopic titled Walk the Line, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, is due out next year.
Pamela Anderson is not a woman to cover much up.
When it comes to her life expectancy and her marital plans, she's candid as ever--both have been cut short.
The buxom blonde, who suffers from hepatitis C, has told Us Weekly that she expects the virus to kill her--possibly within the next decade.
"I think I got a good 10 years left in me, which is sad, too," Anderson says in the magazine. "Maybe 15, if I'm lucky."
About 3.9 million Americans are infected with hepatitis C, and between 8,000 and 10,000 people in this country die each year of complications associated with the virus. The disease causes swelling in the liver, which keeps the organ from performing its basic function of cleansing the blood, and can lead to cirrhosis, liver cancer and liver failure.
"First my doctor just told me I had a glitch in my blood work, then he told me about the disease," Anderson recalled. "He said that it was going to be what I would die from."
Anderson blames her infection on ex-hubby, Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, who she says passed the virus to her through shared tattoo needles; the rocker has denied he has the disease.
Most hepatitis patients fight the disease by following a regimen of anti-viral drugs, which successfully control the disease about half of the time.
In July 2002, Anderson announced on Larry King Live that she would be on hiatus from Hollywood while she began her treatment.
But since then, Anderson, never one to pursue the traditional route, has shied away from taking interferon, the drug many hepatitis patients use to battle the virus. The drug requires frequent injections for months at a time, and can cause flu-like side effects.
Instead the actress has been using homeopathic methods to treat the hepatitis. While's she not ruling out using interferon eventually, the PETA-peddler wants to give nature first dibs on fighting the virus. So far, she said, she's feeling great.
"I'm bad with needles," Anderson explains in Us. "If I had no other choice, I'd use it, but I'm waiting to see how the natural methods work."
On top of her unfortunate prognosis about her health, the actress also confirmed that she has called off her pending nuptials with singer Kid Rock.
"Bob [the rocker's real name] is great--I just saw him this morning--but we're not engaged any more," the nixin' vixen says in the mag."I'm really surprised that anyone is even interested. Where's Ben and Jennifer this week? That's more interesting!"
The Baywatch alum says that her children with Lee, sons Brandon, 7, and Dylan, 5, are her first priority and classified everything else in her life as an "extracurricular activity."
However, Anderson, who once had only harsh words for the father of her children, seems to have re-warmed towards the man with whom she once shared mutual tattoos.
"There's definitely a lot of love and history between Tommy and me, that's for sure. It doesn't matter whether we're together or not," she tells Us Weekly. "We're crazy about each other--always have been, always will be."
(Lee recently called of his engagement to Mayte Garcia, who, as it happens in the mad game of Hollywood couples roulette, was once married to Prince.)
Despite her health problems, Anderson's professional life is progressing smoothly. She has a cameo role as a Catholic schoolgirl in Scary Movie 3, opening Friday, and voices sexy cartoon superhero Stripperella for the Spike TV show of the same name.
Her topless radio talk show, Club Pam is set for launch on Sirius satellite radio this Friday (yes, we said topless); and by next spring, her own line of merchandise, featuring everything from panties to perfume, will be up for grabs.
She has a monthly column in Jane magazine, and is penning two novels for Atria books; the first From the Waist Up is due out in 2004.
Overall, Anderson is pragmatic about her situation.
"We all have a short time on this earth--some of us shorter than others," she said. "I'm not going to fall for the drama."

Just when you thought television couldn't get any worse, the people who brought us The Surreal Life have gone and started shooting a new season of the nutrition-deprived reality show. Pure garbage.
But this time around, instead of the tortured sight of dummies Vince Neil, Corey Feldman and Webster, we're stuck with Tammy Fay Baker, Ponch from Chips, Vanilla Ice, some whore from the Real World, some whore from Baywatch and the crowned rotund hound of mound pound, Ron Jeremy.
Jesus Christ.
They'll all share a house in Hollywood. Each week a special guest will move in. Each week Ronnie will make his housemates green about the gills.
The caterer has his work cut out for him, that much is true.
God help us all.
Next season, catch an all new cast, including Scott Peterson, Fred Durst, Janet Reno and that loser from the Dell commercials.

GOLDEN, Colo. - Authorities released a chilling video Wednesday showing the Columbine gunmen laughing and shooting at trees and bowling pins six weeks before they gunned down 12 classmates and a teacher in a suicidal rampage.
Clad in a trenchcoat, Dylan Klebold at one point holds a sawed-off shotgun and shoots from the hip at a pin wedged between two tree limbs. He and Eric Harris then look at a bullet-shredded tree trunk.
"Imagine that in someone's (expletive) brain," one of the teens says.
The video, taken on a shaky handheld camera on a snow-covered hillside in national forest south of Denver, is the first made by the gunmen themselves to be released to the public.
Among other scenes, the video shows a smiling Harris blowing across the upturned muzzle of a shotgun like a gunslinger. Both teens wear trenchcoats, and later show the camera hands made bloody by a gun butt.
"Guns are bad. When you saw them off and make them illegal, bad things happen to you," one says. The two then point at a gun and mockingly spank it as Klebold says, "no, no, no."
The two repeatedly point to shattered bowling pins and giggle about entry and exit holes. The boys were in a bowling class hours before the shootings began.
The video shows at least four different weapons, including automatic rifles, shotguns and a pistol.
The Jefferson County sheriff's office long ago released surveillance video showing the suicidal teenagers as they entered the Columbine High School cafeteria during the attack on April 20, 1999.
The latest video was released as part of an ongoing effort by the sheriff's office and a task force established by the attorney general to examine evidence assembled during the Columbine investigation. The goal is to release as much evidence as possible to the public.
Randy Brown, a member of the task force, picked up a copy of the videotape. He and his wife warned sheriff's deputies more than a year before the shootings that Harris had threatened to kill one of their sons, and have been strong critics of authorities' handling of the response to and investigation of the massacre.
"The videotape is important," Brown said. "What's really important is did the sheriff see it, did the school see it, or did the parents see it? How many opportunities were missed to stop these two killers?"
The video also shows Mark Manes shooting some of the weapons. Manes sold Harris and Klebold a TEC-DC9 semiautomatic handgun for $500 about three months before the massacre. The gun was used in the attack.
Manes pleaded guilty to providing a handgun to minors and possessing an illegally sawed-off shotgun and was sentenced in 1999 to six years in prison. He was released to a halfway house after less than two years.
Also along on the shooting excursion was Jessica Miklich, Manes' girlfriend. The video shows her shooting one of the rifles, a trenchcoat hanging on a tree in the background.
The man who taped the target practice was Philip Duran, who worked with Harris and Klebold at a pizza shop, Jefferson County district attorney's spokeswoman Pam Russell said.
Duran, who was accused of introducing Harris and Klebold to Manes, was charged with providing a gun - the TEC-DC9 - to a minor and possessing a dangerous or illegal weapon, a sawed-off shotgun. He was sentenced in June 2000 to 4 1/2 years in prison.
In a videotaped message before the attack, the gunmen thanked Manes for providing the gun, saying they couldn't have done it without his help. They also warned him that he and Duran would probably be blamed for helping with the assault.
Lawsuits to release the so-called "basement video tapes" - made by Harris and Klebold in the months before the attack - are pending. The sheriff's office has allowed reporters to watch the tapes, but has not released copies to the public.

www.dailyrecord.com Reports: SADDAM Hussein's son Qusay has a new career after his death as a porn star.
He features in Iraq's top-selling sex video, Qusay And His Whores, which shows him in orgies with call-girls at his luxury Baghdad villa
Other videos on sale in Iraq include Security Section No 5 which shows police torturing prisoners.
Qusay and his brother Uday were killed by US troops in July.
Fayner Says: This is some funny ass shit. I'm dying to see this flick. Wondering though if his dick is as small as Osama's has been rumored to be. Either way, it's cool that this sick motherfucker made porno with hookers.
Is he renting the villa as a location for porno? No? That's right, we blew it to pieces along with him. Ha ha ha ha.
The proposed sequel to this summer's hit Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl may evolve into two movies, shot back to back a la The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, Variety reported. Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer told the trade paper that it's too soon to discuss such plans.
But sources close to the film told Variety that they are pondering the possibility of back-to-back sequels, and negotiations have begun to secure the cast should the studio pursue that avenue.
Director Gore Verbinski has agreed to direct the Pirates sequel, and Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott are onboard to pen the script, which is not finished. Disney also has commitments from Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley to appear in Pirates 2, which Bruckheimer said still has no start date. The first film grossed more than $300 million at the domestic box office, the trade paper reported.
Military-controlled Baghdad international airport's Burger King claims to sell at least 6,500 burgers per day.
(It sure didn't take long to Americanize the country we just blew the bejesus out of. -AZ)
By Ned Parker - BAGHDAD
Check your doubts about American plans for nation building in Iraq at the counter of the Burger King takeaway where 40 soldiers sizzle in the midday heat for a flame-broiled Whopper with lettuce, tomato and cheese. The odour of grease testifies to the Pentagon's belief that air conditioning, fast food, compact disc players and Coca Cola are essential to the survival of young soldiers far from their native soil. "It's amazing what this stuff does for these kids," says Marie Cliff from Army Airforce Exchange Services (AAES), the Defense Department branch managing the military-controlled Baghdad international airport's Burger King and one-stop shopping center.
If June saw a spike in ambush-style attacks against Americans, it also witnessed the army open its first Burger King and beef up the merchandise at its shopping centre to provide soldiers with the creature comforts of home. "We're a quality-of-life support group," says Cliff at this central hub of traffic for troops from the 1st and 3rd infantry divisions, all of whom make shopping and French fry runs. The Burger King claims to sell at least 6,500 burgers per day. As divisions see their tours of duty extended indefinitely in the face of a violent campaign against their presence in Iraq, anything reeking of Americana is welcome to the troops.
On Burger King's first day in business in mid-June, the lines lasted more than two hours, but soldiers patiently waited for their burgers after months of plastic-sealed Meals Ready to Eat, with their set menu of processed Cheese Whiz and Beef Stew. "One soldier just sat against a wall with his hamburger like a little boy," sighs Cliff. Inside the 6,000 square foot (540 square metre) shopping centre, managed by AAES, Nintendo Play Stations have gone on sale in the last week, and a full supply of DVD films and compact discs, everything from albums by rapper Eminem to country singer Johnny Cash, have started to pour in.
Coca Cola and tortilla chips sell like mad, and the store plans on moving into a 20,000 sq foot facility by August. "A month ago, things started to trickle in through the pipeline and now that'll start to mature," says Cliff, who wears combat fatigues although she is a civilian employee of the defense department."We're ready to move to a bigger facility."
As the United States has tightened its security grip on Iraq, the traffic of merchandise has jumped up, Cliff explains. Goods are hauled in by truck from Kuwait, including copious amounts of hamburgers, onion rings and French fries for Burger King.
Cliff envisions expanding the store's selection of compact discs to include jazz and classical music and to start selling mountain bikes so soldiers can move faster around the airport.
"Of course, we have to go with the top sellers," she says, donning her Iraqi freedom hat.
She clearly sees this job as much more than managing a shopping center back in Colorado where she lives. "I'm doing my duty," she says.
And the potent concoction of hamburgers, karate films, cigarette cartons and soda pop clearly have had the intended effect with soldiers.
Corporal Buckshot Blumer, a military policeman at Abu Gharib prison west of Baghdad, was happy to make a pit stop at the airport. He surveyed a gift shop stocked with rugs, cigarette lighters and the famous playing cards of Iraq's 55 most wanted.
"It's nice to get a little air conditioning," he sighed with a smile on his face as Burger King beckoned.

- Guitarist Bruce Kulick is recovering at home, after being released early Thursday morning (October 16) from Cedars- Sinai hospital. The main discrepancy in previous news reports was that the venue he attended last night was at THE KEY CLUB and Bruce was not involved with the altercation that occured at the RAINBOW BAR AND GRILL. Here is Bruce's report:
"I had a great time at the Key Club seeing Vince Neil perform.
Highlights of the night included seeing my old drummer from Union--Brent Fitz-- play with Vince. It was amazing to see Motley Crue's founder and bassist Nikki Sixx getting up to jam with Vince and his band.
After thanking the band for the show, I left the club at 1:20 a.m. I was walking down the street (Sunset Blvd) just outside of the KEY CLUB to get my car with my friend when shots rang out.
I felt my right leg hit and my left temple glazed from at least two shots. I shouted Get down! but never saw the shooter and did not realize the gunshots were fired from the gunman a half block up the street near the Rainbow.
My friends called 911 and it was then I realized that a bullet went into my thigh just above the right knee.
The police and the paramedics were called amongst the confusion, and I was taken quickly to Cedars Sinai. Upon a thorough examination at the hospital it was realized that the bullet went through my thigh, missing the major artery and bone. I was very lucky in this matter, although I am in pain and uncertain how long recovery will take.
My hearing is fine, the temple wound was bleeding for a while, and the doctors called it a very fortunate "abrasion". To think what could have happened from that bullet if my head was not in the position it was that night is a horrific thought.
It was certainly a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, walking in a public street having no knowledge of any altercation in the vicinity. Of all the hundreds of people exposed to the gunfire, it is mindblowing to think of shots being fired in a crowd of innocent people.
Ive received many messages and phone calls wishing me well and really appreciate all the support from my family, friends, and fans from around the world."
Bruce, who plays with Grand Funk Railroad and was in KISS for 12 years, recently released a solo album, TRANSFORMER. His website is www.kulick.net and the band is www.grandfunkrailroad.com. He'll be updating the sites regarding his recovery from the wounds and his upcoming musical commitments.
NEW YORK (AP) -- "Johnny Cash In His Own Words," a memoir based on conversations with the country star shortly before his death, is coming out in December from Random House.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Filmmaker Mari-Lynn Evans interviewed Cash in July for a documentary she was making about the Appalachians. She said the conversation lasted three hours and included the country singer's thoughts about his life and career. The book is a written version of that discussion.
Cash, 71, died Sept. 12 of respiratory failure caused by complications from diabetes.
"He gave so much more ... than we ever could have used in that film. We just couldn't bear to leave it on the editing room floor," Evans, whose documentary will air on PBS next spring, said in a statement issued Friday by Random House.
The book will include a foreword by longtime friend Kris Kristofferson, and a compact disc featuring 30 minutes of interview highlights, excerpts from two songs and a complete version of "Forty Shades of Green."
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Edgy hard rockers Luxt will hit the road for a tour of the western United States, where they will debut new material and a new bass player.
Singly-named bassist Reed is a transplant from Connecticut who befriended Luxt after seeing the band numerous times. When former bassist Crash left the band to attend film school, Reed was the obvious choice to replace him. "We recognized his talents and are ecstatic to have him on board," said vocalist Anna Christine. The multi-instrumentalist will also contribute vocals to during Luxt's live shows.
After a handful of national tours in support of this year's "American Beast" release, Luxt have begun working on new music which is taking a very strong melodic and much more musical sense than the past. The band will play some of these new track live during the upcoming tour. "We're all very excited to start playing these new songs soon," said Anna Christine.

Also Just Announced - Cancellation of The Donnas from Voodoo line-up
NEW ORLEANS, LA: Rehage Entertainment, Inc. is pleased to announce Iggy & The Stooges have joined the 5th Annual Voodoo Musicâ Experience line-up this Halloween in New Orleans. Join these rock 'n' roll legends as they take the Voodoo stage on Saturday, November 1, and show fans why they have transcended for more than four decades.
A true elder statesman of rock 'n' roll, legendary Iggy Pop began his musical career in the 60's and has survived the '70s, '80s, '90s and beyond. It is not enough that his early days in The Stooges virtually single-handedly godfathered punk rock, garage rock and American heavy metal more than three decades ago, or that Iggy Pop went on to conquer Europe and the far East as a headlining phenomenon in the '90s. Even today, Iggy Pop's energy, nerve, and charisma allow him to fill stadiums around the world and indicates that the specter of Iggy Pop is a far more universal force in rock than many suspect.
The reunion of original founding Stooges members Iggy Pop, and brothers Ron Asheton (guitar and bass) and Scott Asheton (drums) is celebrated with four newly recorded tracks on Skull Ring, Iggy's seventh album on Virgin Records. Although Skull Ring features fresh collaborations with mega-platinum hitmakers Green Day ("Private Hell," "Supermarket") and Canadian punk-pop hipsters Sum 41 ("Little Know It All," the first single from the new album), the majority of the new tracks were recorded with Iggy's hard-working band the Trolls.
Rehage Entertainment, Inc. has also just announced the cancellation of The Donnas. The all-female teenage garage rock band has cancelled its fall tour as a result of the drummer's injured wrist.
One-day tickets are available through Ticketmaster. Please call 504-522-5555, 1-800-488-5252, or visit any New Orleans Ticketmaster location. Three-day tickets are on sale for $80 and can be purchased online at www.voodoomusicfest.com, or by phone at 1-800-594-8499.
Sponsors for the 2003 Voodoo Musicâ Experience (Oct 31-Nov 2) are Fuse, PlayStation® 2, Southern Comfort, Rollingstone.com, Miller Brewing Company, SoBe, Spin Magazine, Vibe Magazine, KKND, Sheraton New Orleans, Heavy.com, Fila, Slim Jim, 105.3 The Zone and B97, US Army, Offbeat Magazine, Nola.com & Where Y'at Magazine. Voodoo Musicâ Experience was created and is produced by Rehage Entertainment, Inc., a New York/New Orleans-based management, marketing and productions company specializing in the creation and development of entertainment properties. Verbinski Boards Pirates 2
Gore Verbinski, who helmed this summer's hit Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, has agreed to direct a sequel for Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Variety reported. Original writers Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott are also on board for the sequel, the trade paper reported.
Johnny Depp will also reprise his starring role in Pirates of the Caribbean 2. Disney had already made sequel arrangements with key cast such as Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, though it is uncertain which other cast members will return, the trade paper reported. No start date has been set
Alice Cooper has provided narration for a three-part series, called "Rats, Bats and Bugs", which premiered Monday night (Oct. 27) on The History Channel.
Cooper's segments were taped in the cloister of Palmer Hall, a locale picked for being "very gothic looking," according to Jennifer Mann, manager of program publicity at The History Channel. "They're setting it up to look like his living room," she said.
Mann said Memphis was chosen out of convenience since it's close to a recent Alice Cooper concert date at the Horseshoe Casino in Robinsonville, Miss. He's on tour promoting his new album, "The Eyes of Alice Cooper", on Eagle Records.
Airing consecutively, the three one-hour shows "Rats, Bats and Bugs" look at both the myths and realities of these creatures, from their
ill-gotten reputations to their applications in developing technologies.
On November 18, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release A Special
Edition CD & DVD packaged together from Alice Cooper, entitled "Brutality Live".
