We are sad to say that Paulie Z (The Starchild) & Joey Cassata (The Fox)
are leaving New York City's own KISSNATION.
The two play in an original act called ZO2 and will open for KISS & Poison on the ROCK THE NATION tour. This is not a joke!!! And no they did not get this because of being in a tribute band.

For those of you who have been to a KISSNATION show knows that: Paulie Z was the best Paul Stanley vocally hands down. Joey was one of the best drummers on the scene.
(Not only can he play R&R,but funk, country, blues, etc....)
And for those who have never seen KISSNATION come to the NY/NJ KISS EXPO and help us send off Paulie & Joey as it will be their last show.
KISSNATION will move on with our two new members.

By MARY DICKIE -- Toronto Sun
KRAFTWERK
Ricoh Coliseum, Toronto
Friday, April 23, 2004
TORONTO -- Thirty years ago, Kraftwerk began teaching the world how to make electronic pop music. Since then, virtually every musician who has used synthesizers, turntables, vocoders, drum machines, keyboards or computers owes them at least a thank-you. Now, the inscrutable, witty and brilliant German quartet is back to teach everyone how to put on a show.
And thank heaven for that. The biggest problem with live electronic music is that there's almost nothing more boring than watching a guy on stage staring at a laptop, though few electronic musicians seem to care. The Kraftwerk geniuses blew that image away, however, as soon as they emerged from behind a curtain to the tune of The Man Machine.
First of all, there were four guys on stage, dressed identically in black suits and red shirts and staring at four identical laptops placed precisely in a line. Their mostly bald heads were lit dramatically to contrast with the brightly coloured projection on the screen behind them.
As they generously played nearly all their hits for the appreciative crowd -- with characteristic deadpan blankness and little movement apart from the odd leg swinging to the beat -- the projections changed. Sometimes they were blocks of intense colour, or just the shadows of the four man-machines at their stations. Sometimes there were mesmerizing views of oscillating waves or snappy animated graphics, as in Pocket Calculator and Computer World.
Other backdrops reflected the songs' subjects more literally, like vintage footage from the famous cycling race to accompany the 1983 single Tour De France as well as last year's revisitation, Tour De France Soundtracks, or shots of '50s models for The Model, highway footage for Autobahn, trains for Trans Europe Express and gorgeously cascading capsules for Vitamin. But whether they were retro or futuristic, they were often witty and always dazzling.
When the curtain opened for the encore, there were four robots positioned in the band members' places, with metal stilts holding them up, disturbingly real-looking heads and arms that moved up and down. Naturally, that was for The Robots, one of the band's most enduring songs.
But that wasn't all -- the next encore presented them in crazy suits criss-crossed with day-glo green stripes that played dizzyingly against the undulating green stripes on the screen behind them. After Elektro Kardiogram and their newest single, Aero Dynamik, the members left the stage one by one as the final tune, the appropriately titled Music Non Stop, was fading out. It was a fitting end to a spectacular show.

Christian Bale gave a recent UK TV interview and when asked about "Batman" said the following rather cool statement according to Batman On Film: "We are making a film based on a much loved graphic novel. I think to use the term 'comic book" really under values the source material!...[This film] is a cross between Serpico and The French Connection mixed with a really f-ing cool samurai, kung fu movie, and there's like some really strong 70s conspiracy movie vibes in there too! It is definitely not a Batman that you've seen on screen before".
Meanwhile Warner Home Video have announced over at ToonZone details of the first of three volumes containing all 85 episodes of the first two incarnations of "Batman: The Animated Series".
This first four-disc set contains 28 episodes, two featurettes, a Batcave tour, trailers, and commentary by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini & Eric Rodomski. It'll hit shelves July 6th at a RRP of $49.98.

Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES), C.C. Deville (POISON), Wayne Static (STATIC-X), Al Jourgensen (MINISTRY), John Lowery (ex-MARILYN MANSON, HALFORD), Tommy Thayer (KISS) and porn star Jenna Jameson were among the attendees at a party to promote KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons' first solo album in twenty-six years on Thursday, April 22 at the Key Club in West Hollywood, California.
DC CYPHER reports at www.hardcoregossip.com:
Gene Simmons is an asshole, or so he tells me last night at the Key Club on Sunset Boulevard. Then he gives me a card that says that I am officially an asshole too. Plus the card says that it is non-transferable, so there is no getting out of it.
I went to his solo record release party for his latest opus, cleverly entitled ASSHOLE, and featuring a slew of hot chicks in lingerie on the cover, and got there late. I was invited by fetish photographer Ken Marcus(www.kenmarcus.com) who has apparently known Gene since Gene gate crashed one of Marcus’s shindigs back in the day. Must be nice.
I asked Ken how he got the invite and he smiled.
“ I guess all the freaks stick together,” I suggested. Ken didn’t refute that, so there might be some degree of truth in it.
Justine and some of her civilian friends got through a manic swarm of starfucker groupies and managed to get some shots with Gene before two knock out blond twins accosted him with their young, nubile bodies and their bulging breasts.
I got to chill with an old friend from the band FISHBONE for a while, then hit the door. On the way out of the fan laden soiree, I bumped into none other than Jenna Jameson and Krystal Steel from CJI. They both looked amazing.
Jenna was dressed like Marilyn Monroe and she just looked beyond words. It was difficult to look at her and breath at the same time. With her coy smile and her baby doll face, Jenna Jameson truly is one of the most beautiful women in the entire world. I was glad that they had taken some time out to chill with me and say hello. I only wish that I would have had more to spend. After the AIM press conference yesterday, I was so exhausted all I wanted to do was crawl in a dark hole and sleep. Guess what? It didn’t happen.
Justine got to relax for a while with the reigning queen of porn later after I bailed to go home and drink and listen to RATM. She also ran into Ron Jeremy, of course, since the Key Club is located near the Rainbow, one of Jeremy’s favorite spots. Ron Jeremy and Gene Simmons are friends, naturally, seeing as how the two of them have had their fingers in more pie than a retired gynecologist.
That is kind of gross, isn’t it? Sorry.

After years of waiting, Skinny Puppy return with The Greater Wrong Of The Right, a breathtaking continuation of the path embarked upon with The Process. The experiments of the past few years have neither been forgotten nor diminished. Rather, in their condensed and highly dynamic style, they have forged an album that impresses first and foremost with its energy, vigor and stringency.
Although all the traditional elements of the Skinny Puppy history have been integrated into the ten new tracks, their complexity and divergence develop little by little, in typical Skinny Puppy fashion:
Demanding up-tempo tracks like 'I'mmortal', or 'Pro-test' with its brilliant rap elements synergize with intricate little masterpieces like 'Ghostman'; all of which continue to put the band's imitators in their places.
Still The Greater Wrong Of The Right is an album which thankfully lacks any manner of forced anachronism or supposed nostalgic flair. With the support of a new generation of musicians, like Tool's Danny Carey (acoustic drum on 'Use Less') and Wayne Static of Static-X (vocals on 'Use Less'), it is, with all its dark brilliance, already one of the most outstanding albums of the year - and another milestone in the history of a band both exceptionally genuine and genuinely exceptional.
The Greater Wrong Of The Right is being releases on May 25th. The band plays Chicago on June 16

Seems Quentin Tarantino's next is the proposed "Pulp Fiction" spinoff with John Travolta and Michael Madsen in it. Here's a bit from interview he gave to the most recent issue of Rolling Stone for Kill Bill 2.
"I've got to like turn off now, from the whole kung-fu, spaghetti western homage I've been doing with Kill Bill and get back the one basic underlying story, alright. Kill Bill is something I think a lot of people will enjoy, alright, but not in the same way as say Pulp Fiction. Kill Bill has a story, but it's told different than my other films. But the equation that I would use is if you're a cook, alright, you can cook a meal for yourself or you can cook a meal for your family who you cook for everyday and they're waiting for it. If everyone's in the kitchen with their silverware, banging away, anxiously awaiting what you've cooked up, then it makes you want to do more and more, in turn, getting more creative along the way. Kill Bill has made me want to challenge myself. I'm going to do a war movie, I'm going to do an straight-up action movie and I'm going to do my first sequel.
It's a sequel to both Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, actually, it's a sequel and it's a prequel. It's the Vega Brothers, played by Michael Madsen and John Travolta. I have been trying to do it for years, and the more time I take, the older these two guys get. But I've come up with an idea that won't much matter how much they age....the magic of movies. It's going to be great. It'll be funny, and these guys are so great, alright, they're going to be like two oversized mob-men fighting over the last bowl of pasta, that we can't go wrong. It's just going to be John and Michael, and I hope to make this my next movie. We're laying down the pipework for it now."
Finally, this movie is happening it seems.

Performing the music of Jim Morrison with two-thirds of the surviving members of the Doors is a daunting proposition, and it's not one that singer Ian Astbury takes lightly.
"I'm not naive," Astbury tells Billboard.com. "I knew it was going to be difficult because Morrison is such a sacred icon. My take on it is more we're performing a classic body of work in the same way that a classical body of [a] dead composer would be performed by musicians of the day."
The former frontman of the Cult will soon be performing those works again as frontman of the Doors Of The 21st Century. The group features original keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger and is completed by drummer Ty Dennis. A brief slate of U.S. dates gets underway tomorrow (April 23) in Minneapolis, with a July trip to Europe to follow. Dates in June and August are still coming together.
"Jim Morrison is irreplaceable," insists Astbury, who says he's been a fan of the Doors since hearing "Riders on the Storm" on the radio as a child. "I hope that what I'm doing, by singing with Ray and Robbie, is by giving them the opportunity to play the music in a live context, probably for the last time ever that you will hear the original musicians from the Doors play their music live in this context. So when you think about the gravity of that, it's really kind of an important mission."
Original drummer John Densmore opted out of the reunion, which first came together in 2002, and later sued his former bandmates for using the Doors name without his consent. Former Police drummer Stewart Copeland, who suffered a broken arm and had to pull out of the project, also sued Manzarek and Krieger, claiming he was promised a role in future touring and on a possible studio album; that suit was settled amicably out of court.
While the current group has worked on new material, Astbury says there are no concrete plans to record an album yet. "I think it's more a case of seeing how the new material develops and then addressing that when [the original members] feel they've got a body of work worthy of recording... But, at the moment, it's a work in progress," he says.
Astbury says he has "contributed a modest amount" of lyrics to the gestating songs. "They're relying [almost] strictly on Americans," he says, noting the contributions of poets Michael McClure and Jim Carroll to the project.
Inspired by his work with the Doors canon, Astbury is taking what he's gleaned from Krieger and Manzarek and applying it to his own solo material. He explains, "The style of music is so stripped down, it's about organics, it's about craft, there's nowhere to hide, it's about musical excellence, it's about creativity. It's really inspired me more to go in and have that approach to my own writing process."

Former THE CULT frontman Ian Astbury has worked on series of demos with producers such as Gordon Raphael (THE STROKES, THE WILDHEARTS) and James LaVelle (U.N.K.L.E.), and he hopes to release a solo album, tentatively titled "Warriors of the Mystic Plains", on a yet-to-be-determined label sometime in 2005, according to Billboard.
"My sound will be a mash-up," he said. "Songs that are melodically and rhythmically driven. Like a car crash between LED ZEPPELIN, THE DOORS, PRIMAL SCREAM, BLONDE REDHEAD and NINE INCH NAILS. It's a combination of different elements."
Astbury told Billboard that he was inspired by his work with two-thirds of the surviving members of THE DOORS when it came to writing his own solo material.
"The style of music is so stripped down, it's about organics, it's about craft, there's nowhere to hide, it's about musical excellence, it's about creativity," he said. "It's really inspired me more to go in and have that approach to my own writing process."
THE DOORS OF THE 21ST CENTURY, featuring Astbury, original THE DOORS keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger, along with drummer Ty Dennis, will embark on a brief slate of U.S. dates April 23 in Minneapolis, with a July 4 show in Chicago with ZZ Top and Blue Oyster Cult.

KISS guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley recently spoke to Australia's The Sunday Mail about his upcoming solo album, tentatively due before the end of the year.
"The easiest thing would be for me to do a one-man KISS album," Stanley said. "That I could do in my sleep. But there's no appeal — it would be too predictable and too boring for me."
Stanley also revealed that, contrary to recent published reports, there are no plans for another KISS studio album.
"I'm a bit ambivalent about that," Stanley said. "All of our older songs have become so big over time. And I'd have to admit that [new material] could never have those connotations and connections to people.
"A lot of people would automatically think that [the new stuff] is not as good, even though it might be better. So why would you bother?"
According to Paul, during the KISS' last Australian tour (which produced the acclaimed "KISS Symphony: Alive IV" collection), the band were thinking that it would be their final foray on to the boards Down Under.
"No doubt," Stanley admitted. "It wasn't as though we'd had enough of touring. There were some feelings within the band that were not — I want to be as politically correct as possible — let's just say the band was not thinking as a band anymore. There were people with different opinions. Individual agendas.
"I've always firmly believed that a team is bigger than any one player. But it's unflattering for any of us to start airing the dirty laundry.

Sirens will blare, fake blood will mingle with greasepaint and flames will lick the sky again — yep, Kiss are coming back for yet another summer tour of North America.
The last time they trekked across this continent, Kiss were opening for Aerosmith. This go-round, they'll drag along '80s glam-metal band Poison, which ensures Kiss headlining status.
"Throughout our entire career, we have been headlining, but I look at the opportunity to go on the road with Kiss as a complete honor," said Poison singer Bret Michaels. "Poison's set will be nothing but hits — a balls-to-the-wall, all-thriller-no-filler stage show."
The tour will launch June 6 in Selma, Texas, and will wrap up on August 4 in Atlanta.
Kiss will perform on a new stage set and will play many rarely performed songs along with tried-and-true hits like "Rock and Roll All Nite," "Detroit Rock City" and "God of Thunder." The tour is being sponsored by VH1 Classic and is called Rock the Nation.
When they opened for Aerosmith last summer, Kiss played without original guitarist Ace Frehley, who was replaced by longtime songwriting contributor Tommy Thayer. This time, they'll also be without founding drummer Peter Criss, whose contract with the band was not renewed. In an interview with Kiss merchandise designer Christopher Franchi for Kiss Kollector magazine, Simmons blamed Criss' absence on a bad attitude. "During the entire Aerosmith/ Kiss tour, Peter kept saying to the band while we were putting on makeup, and I quote, 'I've had enough of this sh--. I've got enough money, I have a great house and a great wife. I don't want to do this anymore.' "
Simmons added that the road was taking a physical toll on the then 55-year-old drummer, who admitted to his bandmates that his energy level was "very low." "He would sleep until one or two in the afternoon on days off," Simmons said. "And he had to put his elbow into ice water to relieve aches and pains."
Criss will be replaced by Eric Singer, who served as Kiss' drummer during the early '90s until the original lineup reformed in 1996.
In a post earlier this month on his Web site, Criss defended himself by writing, "I sang and drummed my heart out on the Aerosmith tour. The real fans know that. End of story. And I also missed Ace on the tour."
The drummer also said that he's now recognizing the advantages of not being on tour. "I have never been so happy in my whole life," he wrote. "I can finally be free to be an artist again. I am in excellent health, wealthy and working on being wiser. The original band is over. And as a founding member I am not shocked at Gene and Paul turning a legendary band into a cover act for just plain profit. How very sad."
Kiss will begin a tour of Australia and Japan on May 8 in Perth, Australia; the last date is June 3 in Kanazawa, Japan. While Kiss continue to play shows, Criss will write new material for an upcoming album that may also feature older songs from his archives.

Today the MK graphics team worked to create the new and permanent official MK viXXXens logo. This logo will not only be a permanent part of the site but will debut on the May/June cover and centerfold which features Miss Jesse Jane.
AZ met Jesse in Las Vegas at the AVN Expo and did the first part of the interview. The second part was completed last night. Digital Playground has provided MK with never before seen and XXXcuslive photos.
At a the last minute AZ decided to pull the original concept of the cover and centerfold and went with something with more market appeal. Jesse is the new "it girl" in adult entertainment and is a full on rocker. She's a real headbanger. And fits in MK perfectly.
Jesse Jane can currently be seen in the latest video by Drowning Pool.
Special thanks to Adella at Digital Playground.

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Red Light District has secured the rights to the Paris Hilton sex video and will release 1 Night in Paris with exclusive, never-before-seen footage of the hotel heiress in June.
The simultaneous DVD and VHS release will show Hilton engaged in explicit, hardcore sex with Rick Salomon, her former boyfriend who signed an agreement with Red Light District on April 12 after a lengthy bidding war.
Red Light owner David Joseph told AVN.com that he knew Salomon through mutual friends and has been negotiating with him for well over three months. Joseph, who would not comment on the specifics of the deal, said all the legalities of distributing the tape have been fully explored.
"He has presented enough information to us that he does own it," Joseph said.
Salomon had already made some of the footage available at www.trustfundgirls.com, but 1 Night in Paris will give viewers an unprecedented look.
"It's clearly Paris. There's no doubt it's Paris," Joseph said. "She's in the club. She's videotaping herself. … It's reality stuff. People like reality? Well, here it is."
Joseph said Red Light would be distributing 1 Night in Paris worldwide.
"My biggest concern was how many people actually downloaded it from the Internet," he told AVN.com. "But from what I understand, a lot of it was hard to download, it was dropping out. And he didn't let it all go on the Net. There is 40 minutes of never-before-seen footage on this tape. It's better quality. Plus, we're throwing in a couple of bonus scenes, two or three scenes of our best stuff."
Joseph continued, "One of the reasons why I did go after this so aggressively is our company. We've grown tremendously. We are one of the top companies – in this world. I'm hoping people who don't know about Red Light District will know now. I figured if it's going to be done, why not us?
"If we were the only ones, I wouldn't have been interested, but since other companies were trying to get this I stepped up and got aggressive."
Sources say that Vivid Entertainment Group, Hustler Video, Video Team, and at least two other adult companies were involved in the Hilton sweepstakes.
Joseph said he believed he was close to a deal with Salomon over a month ago after a one-hour meeting in the Red Light offices. But then they went about three weeks without any further contact until Salomon called Joseph one afternoon recently and asked if he could meet him at his hotel. The two met for two hours later that day and closed the deal.
"We came to an agreement that night," Joseph said. "What we did that was special was we were communicating with Rick, talking with Rick honestly and he felt more comfortable with us. He told me that maybe it was because of our relationship (that he went with Red Light)," Joseph said.
Salomon was not available for comment at press time.

If PIG wasn't the appropriate title than the official title of the new Gene $immon$ solo album then Asshole is fitting. Just take a gander at Mr $immon$ as shot by world famous photographer David La Chappelle.
The album which we've been reporting on for months is set for release on the 18th of May by SIMMONS RECORDS/SANCTUARY MUSIC GROUP.
Look for an in-depth interview w/ Gene in the next MK!

FIRESTARTER (Prodigy)
WEAPONS (Simmons)
WAITING FOR THE MORNING LIGHT (Simmons/Dylan)

NOW THAT YOU'RE GONE (Simmons/Kulick)
WHATEVER TURNS YOU ON (Williams/Simmons)

YOU'RE MY REASON FOR LIVING (Simmons)
from the official SANCTUARY MUSIC GROUP press release:
Produced by SIMMONS, this forward thinking, genre splitting effort, is an ambitious musical tour-de force through SIMMONS' psyche, revealing yet another side to the multi-talented artist. “Doing a solo record is important because I write so many different kinds of songs. I literally have hundreds of songs that are demoed up that aren’t right for KISS, and some songs that weren’t used on KISS records I still like, like ‘Carnival Of Souls’ and ‘Sweet & Dirty.’ In assembling the album, I went and reviewed over a hundred songs that I had lying around, and then it was by process of elimination I determined what would go on the record. But at the end of the day, above and beyond style, I had to like the songs.” stated SIMMONS.
Like his 1978 self-titled solo album, ASSHOLE is a model of versatility, drawing together an eclectic swath of styles including hard rock, blues, thrash, neo-psychedelia, Beatlesque pop, rap, prog-rock and even power ballads. “My taste is eclectic and all over the place. I love all kinds of artists, from Patsy Cline to the Beatles, Motown to Hoobastank. As for the record’s stylistic diversity, I’m a child of The Beatles. They created this sort of hybrid white version of American music. They could do it all-- Little Richard, country, pop, soul, psychedelia. They had no rules. That had a major effect on me and that influence comes through on the record.” SIMMONS said.
Transcending genres and confounding expectations, ASSHOLE resounds with a surprise at every turn. Like the artist’s self-titled solo effort, a number of musical luminaries join in on the fun. BOB DYLAN and GENE co-wrote the album's “Waiting For The Morning Light.” FRANK ZAPPA and GENE share co-writing credit on “Black Tongue” and the ZAPPA Family, DWEEZIL, AHMET, MOON, GAIL and FRANK ZAPPA himself sing and play guitar on the song . Other guests featured on the album include DAVE NAVARRO, ex-KISS members BRUCE KULICK and ERIC SINGER, new SIMMONS RECORDS/Sanctuary Music Group signing BAG, as well as GENE's longtime live in SHANNON TWEED and their two children, SOPHIE and NICHOLAS.
Drawing together over three decades of record making, ASSHOLE is a grand, and swaggering portrait of SIMMONS in the 21st Century, a brave musical statement from a man unafraid of pushing the envelope and exploring new boundaries.

Looks like the S-word might be the next profanity in the sites of indecency foes.
Attorney John Thompson, whose complaints about Howard Stern helped prompt Clear Channel to banish the jock and the FCC to fine the company almost half a million dollars, says he has faxed a complaint to the FCC about Sunday night's 60 Minutes broadcast, in which singer Mary J. Blige uttered an under-her-breath "shit."
According to Thomson, he sent the complaint yesterday to FCC Chairman Michael Powell and his senior legal adviser. He did not contact CBS or 60 Minutes and neither had any comment. One CBS spokesperson confirmed the word had aired, though another expressed some doubt.
Thompson was alerted by a piece on The Schnitt Show on Clear Channel's WIOD(AM) Miami.
A check of the show's Web site (www.schnittshow.com) provided an audio clip of the Blige expletive underneath this caption: "Mary J. Blige cursing during 60 minutes, will Viacom be nailed by the FCC for this?"
While Clear Channel yanked Stern, saying it was indecent, Viacom did not and Monday asked the FCC to reconsider its decision making swear words actionable regardless of context.
Thompson in his complaint said: "This constitutes a violation of FCC-enforced decency standards, just a surely as does Bono’s use of the word "fucking" on the prime time telecast of the 2003 Golden Globes. "
Thomson pointed out that it was a repeat broadcast, saying CBS had two chances to edit it out and didn't. The complaint was lodged against CBS-owned WFOR-TV Miami and "all other CBS television stations."
In ruling the F-word indecent in the Bono case, the FCC said other profanities might now be actionable.

ZZ Top will celebrate its 35th anniversary with a North American summer tour. The shows begin June 25 at Kay Yaeger Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas, and will include visits to arenas, amphitheaters, fairs, festivals and casinos.
The recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have dates on the books through September, concluding with a Sept. 24-25 stand at the Las Vegas Hilton. Preceding the tour is a previously announced June 6 engagement at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas with Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, B.B. King and Buddy Guy, as part of the Crossroads Guitar Festival to benefit Crossroads Centre Antigua, the treatment and education center founded by Clapton in 1997.
On July 4 the band will play a show with the newly re-formed Doors and Blue Oyster Cult in Chicago. The show is sponsored by the Loop and tickets are now on sale.

Porn king Ron Jeremy caught up with Get Real Detroit for a Q&A and was asked if he kept track of how many girls he's slept with and whether is it more than Gene Simmons of KISS. "Me and Gene Simmons were both on 'The View' and we gave the same number when they asked us," the legendary porn king responded. "I gave a stock answer, kind of a comic one. We both say between four and five thousand, which is true. But he's a rock star — they're doing him because they like him. They're doing me because it's a paycheck. Or, the other line is, he gets girls that look like his Playboy playmate wife, and when I'm not making movies, I get girls that look like Gene Simmons." Read

Subject: Five Years Since The Columbine Massacre
An examination by Alex Zander
Five years ago, on April 20, 1999, Columbine students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students in their sleepy Colorado town high school, before committing suicide. The events that followed had an unfortunate and enormous domino effect on the entertainment business, including myself, in it's path.

LOS ANGELES — "I know you're not allowed to smoke here," Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins said, "but do any of you have lighters?" The sold-out crowd at the Henry Fonda Theatre responded with a sea of flickering Bics. Hawkins then confirmed this gesture as the international cue for a power ballad by steering the British quartet into "Love Is Only a Feeling," a mid-tempo tearjerker that opened and closed with his gargantuan guitar solos. The audience, raised with an inherent knowledge of arena-rock conventions, could do nothing but scream approvingly.
The reaction of Sunday night's crowd was hardly unique. Hawkins and his bandmates (guitarist and brother Dan Hawkins, bassist Frankie Poullain and drummer Ed Graham) have spent the last month storming Middle America, bringing the glamorous, big-time rock that alternative rock spurned back to the concert stage. Many seem to forget that '70s and '80s groups such AC/DC, Boston and Def Leppard have continued to rule mainstream radio, even as flannel shirts and rap-metal beats have replaced leather bell-bottoms and towering Marshall stacks in arenas. But Permission to Land, the Darkness' debut album (which was certified gold during this tour), presents fans of epic, twin-guitar crunch and high-pitched screams with a fresh band of heroes.
And few enjoy the spectacle and its routines as much as Hawkins. He isn't simply the lead singer, with a tremendous tremolo reminiscent of Sebastian Bach and Freddie Mercury. He's also a David Lee Roth-like MC, cheekily chastising the crowd's sing-along efforts and changing from one bodysuit into another (three costumes in all, each emphasizing his abundant chest hair). In short, Hawkins made sure that only the sourest pusses in the house weren't enjoying themselves — and you can guess where he told them to go.
Inevitably, the show's crashing finale came with the group's breakaway radio hit, "I Believe in a Thing Called Love." The fans shouted along with every timeworn line, sticking their thumbs way up in the air when Hawkins sang that "Everything is A-O.K."
And if the encore's climax — Hawkins riding through the audience on the shoulders of a roadie while peeling off the guitar solo to "Love on the Rocks With No Ice"— faltered because the band had blown out its Marshalls earlier in the song, so what? Even that seemed like an arena-rock trick worth turning up for.

The FCC is expected to fine Infinity Broadcasting roughly $1.5 million as early as next week for airing "indecent" material from the Howard Stern radio show. Unlike Clear Channel, though, Infinity corporate parent Viacom plans to fight the fines. A spokesman for the company indicated it has no plans to drop Stern, but will fight the fine on First Amendment grounds, arguing that Stern's remarks do not meet the legal definition of "indecent." Viacom President Mel Karmazin has publicly backed Stern in front of D.C. lawmakers. In 1995, Infinity paid a $1.7 million fine for indecent comments on Stern's show. Once Infinity receives the proposed fine from the FCC, it has 30 days to respond, at which time it can either pay or go to court.

Fresh off their successful co-headlining tour with Aerosmith, KISS have announced they're returning to the road this summer with a new show, new stage and a set list featuring some "rarely heard gems" from the band's catalog.
The masters of excess boast that they've left 2.5 tons of greasepaint, 4,362 gallons of fake blood, 3,400 smashed guitars and tons of explosives and lights in their wake throughout 30 years of concerts.
This year's lineup consists of vocalist/bassist Gene Simmons, vocalist/guitarist Paul Stanley, guitarist Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer on drums.
The tour kicks off June 10 in San Antonio, with "The Greatest Rock 'N' Roll Show On Earth" hitting amphitheatres across the nation through early August.
Joining KISS on all dates will be glam-rock icons Poison, featuring original members Bret Michaels, Bobby Dall, C.C. DeVille and Rikki Rockett.

Ken Foree, who played SWAT team member Peter Washington in George Romero's original 1978 Dawn of the Dead, confirmed to SCI FI Wire that a special-edition DVD of the classic zombie movie will come out later this year. Foree said in an interview that he was recently contacted by Anchor Bay Entertainment, the company responsible for the current single-disc Divimax version, about doing a commentary track on the upcoming release.
Foree said that he would be joined on the commentary track by fellow actors David Emge, Scott Reiniger and Gaylen Ross, who play the living refugees who hole up in a shopping mall after the world is overrun by zombies. The Anchor Bay Web site describes the release as a multidisc set, which promises "to be the most extensive edition of any title in Anchor Bay's history." The special edition of Dawn of the Dead will include multiple versions of the film, as well as interviews with cast and crew members. The DVD set is planned for release in September.

Newly added this week on MK ONLINE, New ViXXXen Dominant Prince$$, MY RUIN Photo Gallery, AZ and Fiends 2 Gallery and Events and Concert Tour Updates.
Coming this week updates in road-tripping w/ AZ, and finally the new flash intro!

Rob Zombie is continuing work on "The Devil's Rejects", the much-anticipated sequel to the his directorial debut, "House of 1000 Corpses", tentatively due later in the year. According to a posting on Rob's web site, "Ken ('Dawn of the Dead') Foree has signed on the play Charlie Altamont a.k.a. Captain Spaulding's pimp brother. If that ain't enough for you horror fiends Michael ('The Hills Have Eyes') Berryman has signed to play Clevon, Charlie's dim witted sidekick."
"The Devil's Rejects" (which "refers to the nickname that the media has bestowed upon our favorite band of murderers") will feature a plot revolving around "the revenge-driven brother of slain Sheriff Wydell hunting down the family with a band of bounty hunters." All original cast members are said to be on board.
Even though "House of 1000 Corpses" was not a box office smash, the relatively low-budget flick's (which cost a reported $7 million to produce) $12.5 million haul was enough to make Lions Gate Films happy.

AZ with Suze Randall in Las Vegas 2004
Chatsworth, CA): Widely acknowledged as one of the world’s leading erotic photographers, for over twenty-five years Suze Randall had been creating brilliant, stylish portraits that glorify the sensuality of her models. One of those models that Suze had the opportunity to work with was under aged porn queen Traci Lords, and now, for the first time, she’ll be sharing her recollections on national television courtesy of an interview she participated in for A&E’s popular program Biography, which turns its focus on Lords Monday, April 19th.
”It was nice to go back down memory lane and to talk about probably the best model I’ve ever worked with,” says Randall. “Although I didn’t know she was underage, she was a close friend at the time. It was very nice to retrace those steps and relive that era. My husband often reminds me what a scary time it was, but I was young and stupid and excited. It was wonderful knowing her and really refreshing talking about her.”
Randall had the opportunity to share not only her opinions on Lords and her impact on the industry, but she also discussed some of her fondest memories of working with her on several sets. Of all her stories, Randall has one that stands out from all the rest.
“She’s the only model that I’ve ever done a sunrise shoot with – I found her making love on the beach at dawn, so I grabbed my camera and did a layout on her,” Randall laughs. “I could never get anyone to get up that early to shoot, and she had just not slept! She was a hot one! No wonder she had the whole industry fooled! She was so sexually aggressive and provocative. I’ve never met anyone like her.”
Randall was interviewed at her mountain retreat earlier this year by show producer Diane Frank, who spoke highly of her involvement in the show and insight into one of the most controversial figures of adult entertainment.
“There’s so many different views on Traci, and Suze struck me as being in the middle. She doesn’t seem to be hiding anything or trying to get any particular point across. She doesn’t have an agenda. She tells it like it is,” Frank says. “She’s a radical person, but she’s not radical on this issue. She was able to see Traci as a person. She’s not as rancorous as some others are. She sees Traci probably as Traci doesn’t want to see her – of course, Traci claims she doesn’t know what was going on, but Suze sees Traci as knowing precisely what was going on. Whether or not she felt she could leave the industry was a different issue. Suze had a more balanced view of the situation. Her commentary was very valuable.”
Biography features clips from Too Naughty To Say No, a title Randall shot during the Lords era, which will be re-released by Pure Play Media Inc. next month. Pure Play CEO Richard Arnold is pleased with the coverage.
“It speaks to the fact that she is such a veteran of the industry and such a source of knowledge,” Arnold notes. “She’s been around, so people go to her for information. Just as new talent goes to her to get shot with the best.”
A&E’s Biography on Traci Lords featuring Suze Randall airs Monday, April 19th at 8pm EST.

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - There is no shortage of reaction to news that two performers’ tests came back HIV-positive this week. While most major production companies have postponed shooting until the crisis has cleared – AVN has suggested halting production until June 8 – some companies and directors are continuing to shoot.
Thus far, Darren James and Lara Roxx are the only performers to test positive.
Director Skeeter Kerkove, who has shot James in the past, told AVN.com that he has stopped production completely.
“I have already cancelled 40 sex scenes, I’ve cancelled five movies completely, everything for the rest of this month and all of May,” Kerkove said.
Kerkove, who boasts that he has never shot a scene that wasn’t anal, said that much of the talent he had booked was still willing to perform.
“I was actually surprised that people still wanted to work,” he said. “I had several people tell me that they knew so-and-so wasn’t on the list, and I let one of them know that they were wrong, that the person [they were referring to] was exposed – on my set.
“Everybody is learning what I learned on 20/20, that 96 percent of the prostitutes tested in Brazil were HIV-positive. In January I was told by an agent in Brazil that performers there can buy a fake test for $10 if they ‘don’t have time to go get it or can’t do it.’ I asked him what phone numbers there are to call [for verification] and he said there really isn’t one. It’s just not worth the money. The only testing I trust for now is AIM, because I can call AIM Health Care and go on lapdat [AIM’s computer database for adult producers] and verify.”
Kerkove added that he thoroughly enjoyed using James as talent, saying “he did great scenes, was a perfect gentleman, had a great body, and he was super polite.”
Gonzo director Lex Drill, who also shoots primarily anal scenes, said he was scheduled to shoot in Brazil next month, but will not be making the trip.
“I was supposed to go to Brazil on May 17 and I couldn’t bring myself to make reservations,” Drill said. “Don’t ask me why, but I was uncomfortable to begin with, even before this happened, and I have not only cancelled my upcoming trip, I am never going to Brazil. … They don’t have the same infrastructure and I don’t want to be responsible for anyone contracting HIV. I would rather never shoot again in my life than put anybody in harm’s way. I don’t want to be a death merchant.”
Kick Ass Pictures contract performer/director Mary Carey said that she has already postponed shooting Mary Carey Rules 5 next month, though she is considering putting together a video of girls masturbating, but “no exchanging fluids.”
“I think the testing is good,” Carey told AVN.com, “but I think the testing should be every 10 days.”
Publicist Carly Milne, who represents Private, Pure Play Media and New Sensations/Digital Sin, said each company is taking varying precautions.
“Private has declared a moratorium on any production until June 8,” Milne told AVN.com. She pointed out that most of Private’s productions are shot in Europe, so the company should still be able to keep a regular release schedule.
“Pure Play is going to focus mainly on doing girl/girl stuff for now,” Milne said. “I believe there is a girl/girl feature ahead, but I don’t think there is anything else slated, so I don’t think it affects our production.”
Milne said that New Sensations/Digital Sin “is slowing down work on any boy/girl scenes and they are going to focus mainly on solo. They are not going to shoot with anyone who is on the list.”
Performer Richard Raymond, who along with wife Kelly Kline travels from North Carolina to Porn Valley to work throughout the year, said the work has dried up – and he’s happy about it.
“We were on location for Barely Legal Summer Camp when it all started happening and they just shut it down right there,” Raymond said. “We were just tested on the 9th and we were re-tested yesterday. There’s still that incubation period, but it’s still some peace of mind for us to know that, at this point, we’re ok.”
Raymond added that he thought it was “awesome” that they immediately stopped production.
“I was booked with VCA for the 25th through the 1st and I cancelled all of it,” Raymond said. “It’s just not worth the risk, and they weren’t sure if they were going to shoot it anyway.
Raymond and Kline will be cutting their trip short and returning to North Carolina this weekend until things clear up.
Performer Gia Paloma, who was in the AVN offices a week ago to drop off a new title, Gia Has a Negro Problem – which has her on the cover with Darren James – said she won’t be working for a couple months.
“At least a couple months, if just mentally, because it fucks you up,” she told AVN.com. “Is $1600 really worth cutting my life by 50 years? There’s no reason anyone should risk their life for a few bucks. You have to take a look at yourself and ask what you’re worth.”
Paloma also noted that she is still being asked to work and that one company in particular had been particularly insistent.
Jenna Jameson issued a press release this afternoon that said, in part: “I think that any performer coming into the United States from abroad, including American nationals who have worked outside the country, should have a ‘quarantine’ period in which they must wait at least 60 days before beginning work again in the adult industry.”
“ClubJenna has pushed its productions until the 60 day window has elapsed and we can be assured that the outbreak is contained. We strongly urge the rest of the industry to follow. This is our industry and our livelihood … please help to ensure its safety.”
Several directors and performers who are continuing to work through this crisis refused comment for this article or did not return phone calls.

Several major adult movie companies — including the industry's largest, Vivid — announced Thursday they would stop filming for 60 days after two stars tested positive for HIV
The shutdown followed an urgent plea by health advocates to halt unprotected sex in the pornographic industry, which employs more than 6,000 performers and production personnel in Southern California. The positive tests have reverberated throughout the industry, sparking a mix of anxiety and indifference at movie sets, talent agencies and testing clinics.
Vivid and other companies announced that they would stop filming in hopes of heading off an outbreak of HIV in the multibillion-dollar business.
Production would stop until those actors who had worked with actor Darren James and actress Lara Roxx could be tested, company officials said. The pair, who had worked together in at least one movie, tested positive this week.
But other companies dismissed the plea for a moratorium, calling it "paranoid" and "knee-jerk," and vowed to keep their cameras rolling. The industry, they said, was perfectly safe.
"I'm against any stop in production," said Tyler Cash, a producer with Sinamotion Pictures in Chatsworth. "It will put a lot of people out of business. You'll have people who will start losing their apartments. It's just not fair."
The call for a halt to filming of sex scenes without condoms was made by the Sherman Oaks-based Adult Industry Medical Heath Care Foundation, which listed on its website about three dozen actors who may have been exposed to the virus recently, and urged them to get tested.
Other top adult-entertainment groups, including the leading industry news website, endorsed the proposal.
Cash's company, along with a few others, allow actors to use condoms during filming, although filmmakers say their use "kills the fantasy" and actors are often paid more to perform without them.
James has worked for producers who don't require condoms. He reportedly contracted the virus in Brazil.
Several of those producers Thursday said they were stopping production. One of them is Jill Kelly Productions, a Hollywood company that makes four to eight movies a month.
"We're not shooting until June 8," said owner Jill Kelly. "We're just sitting around, afraid. The most important thing is safety. Safety comes before money."
At World Modeling Talent Agency in Sherman Oaks, which represents many adult actors, the phones hadn't stopped ringing Thursday from worried clients and producers. "We've gotten calls from 15 companies who are shutting down. We [the porn industry] take these things seriously. Right now, there are companies who are not only canceling future projects, but also canceling movies already in production," owner Jim South said.
Dr. Jonathan Fielding, director of public health for Los Angeles County, said that although the porn industry in general has been diligent about screening actors for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, the root problem is the continued practice of unsafe sex.
"This is another illustration that unless all the sex you're showing is safe, that actors will continue to be put at risk," Fielding said. "Even good industrywide efforts would be hard to be 100% successful because people are having sex outside the industry."
Sharon Mitchell, a former adult film star who describes herself as the "auntie of porn," helped found the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation with Northridge doctor Steven York five years ago.
The clinic's main goal was preventing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, especially HIV, in the porn industry.
The industry recommends that all actors and actresses be tested every 30 days. AIM tests about 1,200 performers each month and shares its data with major porn film producers, the foundation said.
On Thursday, actors and actresses streaming in and out of the foundation's Woodland Hills office to get tested for HIV said they felt unnerved.
Some pored over a flier handed out by AIM that named those who had sex with James since his last clean test, and those who had sex with James' sex partners, looking for people they knew.
"I haven't worked with any of them, thank God no," said one actor after reviewing the names.
Actress Summer Tyme, 25, said she has worked in the industry only two months, and that the news has rattled her.
"I'm going to change the way I do things now — probably just girl-on-girl shoots. Guys, but with condoms," Tyme said. "No money is worth risking your life."
The actress said she was scheduled for a video shoot that afternoon, but panicked when she learned that one of the male performers was "quarantined" — on the list of performers who may have been infected. Although that actor later was replaced, she called and left a message saying she would only perform protected sex.
"They never called me back," Tyme said. "I guess they didn't like that."
James, friends said, was stricken by the news. "He's resting and lying low. He's very sad," Mitchell said.
Friends and colleagues described James as friendly and gentlemanly. He was tested Friday and AIM received the diagnosis on Monday. AIM sent out an alert Tuesday morning.
Roxx is a relative newcomer to the industry, health advocates said, and appears to have performed with only two or three actors before testing positive on Thursday.
"Luckily, there's a small number of people," said AIM healthcare worker Scotty Phillips.
Roxx had not worked for the last few days because she felt ill.
Despite the HIV scare, Kelly said, porn workers are still sexually healthier than non-porn people who are promiscuous.
"People are aware about their health in this industry," Kelly said

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA Jenna Jameson, the world’s best known adult film star, says she will campaign vigorously for tighter self-regulation of the XXX movie industry in order to head off the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases among adult performers.
“The fact is that the adult industry as a whole has been remarkably free of STDs and HIV, considering that sex is what we do for a living. We must do even more to prevent it from taking root among performers,” said Ms. Jameson. “The incidence of HIV in the adult industry is far lower than in the population as a whole, and we need to adopt stricter restrictions for our industry to keep it that way. I think that any performer coming into the United States from abroad, including American nationals who have worked outside the country, should have a ‘quarantine’ period in which they must wait at least 60 days before beginning work again in the adult industry.”
Ms. Jameson made her remarks as the industry reacted to reports that male actor Darren James had tested positive for HIV. She said she endorsed a 60-day moratorium on producing new films to assure that there are no additional HIV positive cases. “ClubJenna has pushed its productions until the 60 day window has elapsed and we can be assured that the outbreak is contained. We strongly urge the rest of the industry to follow. This is our industry and our livelihood….please help to ensure its safety.”
She added: “I fully support the efforts of AIM (the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation), which has done an incredibly good job in bringing awareness to ways people in our industry can protect themselves. If we don’t get behind AIM in every way and make sure we have air-tight self-regulation, then you can be sure that the government is going to step in and start doing it for us, and that will be a major mess.”

VELVET REVOLVER will jump-start the June 8 release of their much-anticipated debut album, "Contraband" (RCA), with their first-ever tour. Launching May 13 in St. Louis, the intimate venue trek will take the band — who've only played one show before (last year in Los Angeles) — across the U.S. into such cities as New York, Los Angeles, Washington, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco and Detroit, among others.
"Slither", the album's first single, exploded at radio in its first week of release, airing on over 130 stations. The song was #1 Most Added at Modern Rock, Active Rock and Mainstream Rock.
For the "Slither" video, VELVET REVOLVER — lead vocalist Scott Weiland, guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Dave Kushner — joined forces with video director Kevin Kerslake (NIRVANA, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, IGGY POP). The band performed the powerful song in an underground "catacomb party" in front of hundreds of fans packed into the sprawling basement of a downtown Los Angeles warehouse. Other portions of the "Slither" video are being shot in Europe, where "catacomb parties" take place underground, reachable only by following a series of clues and traveling through the maze of tunnels that lay nearly a half-mile underneath the city. NEW YORK - Just two weeks after launching, a new radio network aimed at liberal audiences suffered a setback Wednesday when a dispute with a business partner resulted in the network's signal being pulled from stations in Chicago and Los Angeles. The ownersof Air America Radio filed a lawsuit in New York's Supreme Court against the New York-based MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting Inc. after the radio company dropped Air America Radio's signal from its stations WNTD in Chicago and KBLA in Los Angeles.
MultiCultural Radio did not return phone calls for comment, but the Chicago Tribune quoted the company's owner, Arthur Liu, as saying that Air America bounced a check to them on Wednesday. Air America claims in its lawsuit that its payments are up to date.
"MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting's conduct in this matter has been disgraceful," Evan Cohen, the chairman of Air America Radio, said in a statement. "To shut off a broadcast that listeners rely on without warning and in the middle of discussions is the height of irresponsibility and a slap in the face of the media industry."
Air America claims in its lawsuit that MultiCultural Radio removed the network's signal in Chicago without notice and changed the locks on the station's offices.
Air America Radio launched March 31 in five cities around the country and on XM Satellite Radio with a slate of left-leaning talk radio and political satire, headlined by comedians Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo.
The network is still broadcasting in New York, Portland, Ore., and on a different station in Los Angeles, KCAA.
Yankovic Issues Statement on Accidental Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

On April 9, my mom and dad, Nick and Mary Yankovic, passed away in their home in Fallbrook, California. It was the result of a terrible accident: That morning, they had started a fire in the fireplace with the flue closed, and were asphyxiated by carbon monoxide poisoning.
My wife Suzanne called me that afternoon on the bus to give me the news, so that I would hear about it before the wire services picked it up. Needless to say, I feel pretty much the way you would expect me to feel: shocked and devastated beyond words. I loved my parents so much, and this all still seems like a horrible nightmare that I can’t wake up from.
I want to thank my family, friends and fans for the incredible outpouring of love and support that they’ve shown me. It’s wonderful to know that there are so many people around the world who truly loved my parents, and also nice to know that I am not alone in my grief. I take some small measure of comfort in knowing that they died peacefully, and that they never had to suffer through the pain and loneliness of living without each other.
I'm also grateful that they both lived long enough to see me happily married to Suzanne, and particularly happy that they got to meet our beautiful baby daughter Nina. She filled their lives with so much joy this last year. Nina may be too young to remember playing with her grandparents when she gets older, but don’t worry, we’ll have some great videotape to show her.
Many people have wondered what’s going to happen with the tour. I briefly considered canceling some shows, but I ultimately decided that it would be better for me personally to continue working. Plus, I’ve heard from so many people over the years that my music has cheered them up in times of tragedy… Well, I thought maybe my music would help me too.
So far, it has. Going up on stage in front of thousands of supportive fans is a cathartic and somewhat therapeutic experience for me right now. I don’t know if I can say that the concerts really take my mind off of the tragedy, but at least they give me a break from sobbing all the time. Anyway, I have decided not to cancel any showsthe tour will continue as planned. However, I have decided to put a moratorium on all interviews and meet-and-greets for the time being. I just feel like I need some time alone right now.
The funeral will be a very small, intimate service with only the immediate family attending, so please, I ask that you respect our privacy. Just knowing that your thoughts are with us at this time is more than enough, but if you care to contribute anything, in lieu of flowers, Suzanne and I suggest a donation to the Natural Resources Defense Council in my parents’ name. One thing I would like to ask everybody to do, though… Please, go out and get carbon monoxide detectors for yourself and your loved ones. If my parents had had one in their home, there’s a very good chance that they would still be with us today.
In fairness to the memory of my mother, I should point out some errors that appeared in the press. Although she was starting to have a problem with short-term memory loss (she was taking medication for it), my mother was never diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. As long as I’m pointing out errors that the press has made, it was my Aunt Dot who found my parents when she was bringing them lunch that day, as she routinely did (and not a group of relatives concerned that they "hadn’t heard from them in a while" the family was close and caring and saw each other several times a day). Also, my aunts and uncles all live in separate houses (not together, as some articles implied), and for what it’s worth, I am not represented by the William Morris Agency either.
I don’t know how much else I can say about my parents that I haven’t already said in interviews over the years. Although I always found it a little uncomfortable, my dad talked a lot about death. He mentioned a few times that he was planning to go on a diet so that his "casket would be easier to carry." I guess that’s where I got my sick sense of humor from. And he was always talking about how much he was looking forward to seeing his old army buddies again (in the next life). I sure hope they’re having a great reunion right now.
As unthinkable as this tragedy is to me, I just know that my mom and dad were very much at peace with the world and with their lives. And I guess I can take a small amount of comfort in that too. Thank you all again for your overwhelming kindness and support. It means more to me than you can ever know.
Love,
Al
The PIXIES kicked off their warm-up reunion dates last night in Minneapolis – the first concert they’ve played together in nearly 12 years – taking the stage to a full minute-long ovation offered by a packed venue of some 1000 fans – some of whom paid up to $400 a ticket on Ebay.
The Pixies played 27 songs – including a seven-song encore. Today’s review in the city’s major daily newspaper, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, was glowing, remarking that Frank Black and Kim Deal “could still harmonize like best buddies.” MTV reported, “Any notion that the band’s elusive chemistry had eroded in the decade-plus since its last tour was quickly dispelled as the four musicians tore into their post-punk pop ditties with rocking energy and surprisingly excellent timing.” NME called the band’s first concert “a triumphant return.” Minneapolis is the first of thirteen “warm up” dates on this tour.
Just prior to launching the Pixies’ North American dates, the band announced that they would headline a Fall 2004 U.S. Tour. Over the Eastern weekend, tickets for the first two Fall tour dates went on sale – Chicago and Atlanta – and sold out as fast as the transactions could take place. Promoters for the Atlanta date, set for October 14 at the Fox Theatre, immediately rolled over to a second show, October 15, which also sold out. Now that may not surprise you, but hold on, there’s more. In Chicago, tickets for the band’s November 13 show at the Aragon Ballroom sold out within two minutes, and second show (November 14) went on sale and sold out, and a record-breaking third consecutive show (November 15) went on sale and, yes, sold out. Thirteen thousand five hundred Pixies tickets sold out in a 24-hour period – and bear in mind, this was Easter Weekend, these concerts are SEVEN MONTHS away, and are all general admission (not reserved) seats.
So, what’s next? Well, the Pixies will break their own record and have announced a record-setting FOURTH show at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom that will take place Tuesday, November 16. Tickets for that show will go on sale this Saturday, April 17 at 12NOON (CDT).
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Andy Cirzan, with Jam Productions, promoter for the Chicago run. “The White Stripes played the Aragon two nights in a row and then came back a few months later for a third show, but no artist has ever played three consecutive shows at the Aragon, not to mention four.”

It's enough to make your head spin. Morgan Creek—which shelved director Paul Schrader's unseen Exorcist prequel movie and ordered it remade under helmer Renny Harlin—now says it may want to release both versions of the movie on DVD, Variety reported. Schrader shot an entire version of Exorcist: The Beginning last year before Morgan Creek scrapped it and ordered a new version from scratch, including a new script, new cast and director Harlin, the trade paper reported. Harlin's Exorcist: The Beginning heads for theaters on Aug. 20.
Now, Morgan Creek chief James Robinson is telling the trade paper that he's seeking to have Warner Brothers release both directors' Exorcist movies on DVD simultaneously. That could raise a credits arbitration issue with the Directors Guild of America, the trade paper added.
Schrader told the trade paper that he's agreed in principle to the arrangement with Morgan Creek in order to get his version seen and as a way of settling the contractual issues of his being owed a preview and an official screening. "I'm very proud of my film, and I think it deserves to be seen," Schrader told Variety. "If I get the DVD, I can say 'God bless you, Renny; may your film do well.'"
It's unclear whether Warner would bundle both films in one DVD or simply make both films available individually. A spokesman for the studio told the trade paper that Morgan Creek hadn't yet discussed the DVD plan with anyone there.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Wal-Mart is selling the world's first DVD player that can seamlessly skip over violence, swearing, nudity and other potentially offensive movie content. The $79 unit features technology by ClearPlay and is manufactured by Thomson Inc. under its RCA brand.
The product comes in the wake of the Super Bowl halftime controversy as well as the FCC fining Clear Channel for indecent content on "The Howard Stern Show." But ClearPlay CEO Bill Aho said the timing is coincidental.
"It's just fortunate," he said. "There is a lot of interest and sensitivity around the topic of potentially offensive media content."
RCA's player is the latest development in a legal battle between the Salt Lake City-based software company and Hollywood. Steven Spielberg Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh and other members of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) filed suit against ClearPlay in September 2002, when the filtering product was available as a computer program.
Those legal proceedings are still under way in Colorado's 10th District Court. Both sides currently are waiting for a ruling on a summary judgment filed by ClearPlay.
The DGA, for its part, is sticking to its guns.
"ClearPlay software edits movies to conform to ClearPlay's vision of a movie instead of letting audiences see, and judge for themselves, what writers wrote, what actors said and what directors envisioned," a DGA spokesman said in a statement Monday. "Ultimately, it is a violation of law and just wrong to profit from selling software that changes the intent of movies you didn't create and don't own."
The Motion Picture Assn. of America, which lobbies on behalf of most of Hollywood's major studios, declined to comment directly regarding Wal-Mart's decision to sell the players but spokesman Matt Grossman did say, "our position is that we are wholeheartedly against any individual or enterprise that alters our studios' copyrighted material."
Consumers can play any DVD in these units in the usual manner. In addition, however, they can activate a variety of different filtering levels that work according to ClearPlay's preprograming. The player filtering works only on selected titles; it has no effect on movies that it has not been preprogramed to handle, but for those it doesn't recognize, it has the capability to completely block movies based on their rating.
The sophisticated process is rather like very smoothly fast-forwarding and muting the original movie as it plays back. The DVD remains unchanged and unharmed. Aho said that is an essential distinction between ClearPlay and fellow defendants named in the pending suit, because others provide consumers with a copy of a physically edited DVD or VHS movie.
According to Aho, the studios' allegations imply that consumers "are violating copyright law when they use ClearPlay to mute and skip the playback of movies on DVDs that they have lawfully bought or rented."
He believes the industry's objections are lessening now that Hollywood has had a chance to evaluate what ClearPlay actually does.
"There is a natural reaction when faced with a new technology to make sure that it's managed, that your industry is protected and that the application is good for both consumers and the industry," Aho said. "It's clear that there is a much better understanding of ClearPlay as opposed to companies that make copies of the movies. I
