UPDATE: Batman Begins Filming in Chicago!

BATMANAGAIN.jpg

It looks like Batman is headed to Lower Wacker Drive (vehicle sequence?). Just got this email:

"If you are a patron of the parking garage here at One South Wacker, please be aware that Lower Wacker Drive will be closed for a Warner Brothers movie filming on the following dates and times:

Tuesday, July 27, 1:00am - 4:00am

Monday, August 2, 7:00pm - Tuesday, August 3, 5:00am

Tuesday, August 3, 7:00pm - Wednesday, August 4, 5:00am

Both sides of Wabash from Chicago River to Hubbard Street.

The first date is for preparatory operations, while the last two dates are for the actual filming."

Personally I was surprised that they didn't just say "A movie will be filming" (like they did when they shot some of the Spidey 2 El Train sequences a couple blocks from here). Sure, it COULD be for another Warner shoot, but the timing seems right for when they said they'd be in Chicago.

We also received the following bit...

Regarding filming Batman Begins in Chicago - the LA crew is flying in today (7/26). Everyone is staying at the ******* hotel for the next 3 weeks.

I just go the memo about filming this Starting July 29th through July 31st.

Beginning July 31st at 5:00 am to 11:00 pm:
South side of Illinois from Wabash to Lower Wacker
Both sides of Rush Street from Chicago to Hubbard from Wabash to Lower Michigan Avenue
Both Sides Lower Michigan Avenue from Grand to Lower Wacker
Both sides of North Water Street from State to St. Clair

HBO won't air new 'Sopranos' until 2006

TONY S.jpg

LOS ANGELES, -- HBO executives have decided to hold new
episodes of popular U.S. cable series "The Sopranos" until
2006, it was reported Friday. Chris Albrecht, HBO's chief,
told a group of journalists in Los Angeles Thursday he is
not concerned waiting a year before airing "The Sopranos'"
new season would affect the show's momentum, the Washington
Post said.

Albrecht compared the new season to the next
installment in the "Harry Potter" film series, saying the
drama series seasons are regarded as sequels, rather than
typical TV series. "The Sopranos" new season likely will be
its typical 10 episodes, Albrecht said, although creator
David Chase has been given freedom to produce as many
episodes as he can. As long as "The Sopranos" airs, Albrecht
said he always wants Chase to find a way to tell more
stories.

THE MANSON FAMILY opens 11th Chicago Underground Film Festival

CHARLIESFAM.jpg

Jim VanBebber's long awaited feature THE MANSON FAMILY will open the 11th Chicago Underground Film Festival, August 18th 8:00 Pm at the 3 Penny Cinema, 2424 N Lincoln Ave. Tickets for the film (which includes an opening concert at Schubas) are $15.00 and are onsale now at: www.ticketweb.com/user/?region=chicago& query=detail&event=532685

One of the most talked about and eagerly anticipated underground films of the last decade. Van Bebber?s epic independent feature paints the most accurate and uncompromising picture of the most infamous cult of all time and the crimes that shook the world. Conceived in the early 90?s as a straightforward docudrama, the film's scope expanded over the years to become a multi-layered final word on the tragic events of August 9th & 10th 1969 as well as the impact those events continue to have on popular culture. The film combines detailed recreations of the Family members? lives, chronicling of the events on the Spahn Ranch that led to the Tate-LaBianca killings and contemporary jailhouse interviews with The Family as well as a chilling look at a group of Manson-obsessed, nihilistic punk teenagers. Connecting these narrative strands is a tabloid television journalist producing a special focusing on The Family. Stylistically, The Manson Family fuses classic grindhouse horror with an experimentalism rooted in the underground referencing the transcendent death trip of the Cinema of Transgression to Kenneth Anger?s hallucinogenic occultism. The production of THE MANSON FAMILY has become the stuff of legend. Starting it?s life as CHARLIE?S FAMILY, rumors circulated about Van Bebber?s means of funding his epic; rumors ranging from flipping burgers at a Wendy?s to armed robbery. Fueled by a handful of work-in-progress screenings (including an unadvertised midnight preview which stunned a standing room only crowd at the 1997 Chicago Underground Film Festival), the screenplay has been published (Creation Books, London) and the soundtrack CD released (Metropolis) but the film seemed cursed to never be completed. Finally, thanks to an angel deal with Blue Underground UK, completion money was secured and the finished version premiered in England in late 2003. Van Bebber refused to compromise his ultimate portrait of the American nightmare. Be warned, once seen this film will not be forgotten.

"A soul shredding, intense firestorm of cinema verite'; a scalding and courageous debunking of the Manson mythos and a horrifying epiphany of the highest order...Welcome to the belly of the
beast". - Chas Balun, Deep Red

Raimi Talks Spider-Man 3

spiderman.jpg

The BBC has posted a new interview with Sam Raimi talking about both Spider-Man 2 and the May 4, 2007 Spider-Man 3. Here's clips on the third film...

You're currently at work on the script for Spider-Man 3...
I just finished this morning [Monday 12th July] - I mean the basic story. I'd been working on it with my brother.

The sense you get towards the end of Spider-Man 2 is that Peter Parker and Harry Osborn will face off in the third. Is that a fair assumption?
Well I'm trying to... I can't tell you.

What can you tell us?
It's going to follow the natural progression of the growth of these two individuals, Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker. It will be a love story and it will track the relationship as they encounter new conflicts that separate them. And hopefully their own will and love for each other will bring them back together in the piece. Harry will be a problem, but I'm not certain if Harry will become the Goblin or not. The thing I'm really not certain about is if he comes to feel, "Now I have the means to destroy Spider-Man - I was too weak before but now I have a way and I will become the man that my father always dreamed I could be." Or, does he feel: "Now I understand why Spider-Man had to destroy him, because he was a mass murderer and now my anger can drain away from me." It could be an answer to a question and it ends the pursuit, but I'm not certain which way to go.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: GENE SIMMONS' SPEAKING IN TONGUES

lilgene.jpg

New York, N.Y. - Simmons Audio Visual/New Millennium/Sanctuary Records Group is proud to announce the DVD & CD release of GENE SIMMONS' SPEAKING IN TONGUES, on August 10, 2004.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES chronicles GENE SIMMONS' first ever, no holds barred "lecture tour" of Australia, shocking and tantalizing his audiences by speaking his mind on his favorite topics - Money, Success, Fame, KISS & of course - Women! Other highlights from SPEAKING IN TONGUES include a fascinating in-depth look at one of rock 'n roll's most legendary icon's private life including his home, his family and his various business dealings. Additionally, the DVD & CD includes for the first time anywhere, over ten unheard and never-before-released Gene Simmons songs from the seventies through the nineties.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES, is an intimate and revealing portrayal of SIMMONS' personal philosophies of life. SIMMONS (arguably the most opinionated man in music) states, "I decide things for myself, convention in society says I'm supposed to get married, I'm supposed to do this.I refuse. I'm a contradiction to all this stuff.I'm willing to bear all the criticism and I'm willing to take all the rewards. All the blame, but all the credit." A brave statement from a man unafraid of pushing the envelope and dealing with the consequences.

Most recently, SIMMONS co-founding member of KISS, America's No.1 Gold Record Champions Of All Time (RIAA - Group Category), released his highly anticipated second solo effort, A**HOLE, revealing yet another side to the multi-talented artist. Like his 1978 self-titled solo album, A**HOLE is a diverse forward thinking, genre splitting effort and features a number of musical luminaries which include Bob Dylan, Dave Navarro and the Zappa Family.

KISS, who has rock and rolled all night and partied every day for over three decades and broken box office attendance records set by Elvis Presley and the Beatles, continue to conquer audiences with their current 2004 "ROCK THE NATION " worldwide tour.

GENE SIMMONS, arguably the most opinionated man in music, offers a

fascinating look at...himself!

Following Gene for two speaking engagements in Australia, SPEAKING IN

TONGUES is a spoken word show of Gene speaking his mind on his

favorite topics - money, success, KISS, fame, and of course, girls! The man

certainly has a way with words and whether you love him or hate him you

can't deny him (100 million records sold is hard to argue with).

Some of the more memorable quotes from our favorite Demon include:

"Women are from Mars. Men have Penis."

"Cash will buy love."

"Money is not the root of all evil. LACK of money is the root of all evil!"

"Dress British, think Yiddish."

"I am selfish. I love myself."

"Don't work 5 days a week, work 7 days a week."

Not only is SPEAKING IN TONGUES a forum for the man to espouse his

philosophies, it is also an in depth look at his home, his family and his

business dealings. Part stand up comedy, part self help seminar and part

MTV CRIBS, Gene Simmons' SPEAKING IN TONGUES is a fascinating look

at rock n' roll's favorite A**HOLE.

www.genesimmons.com

Highlights:

. fans will FLOCK to this release. It is a fascinating and uncompromising look at their God of Thunder in a never before seen

documentary style release.

. Major marketing initiative around the KISS tour this summer.

. Expect reviews and features in major publications including Spin, Rolling Stone, Blender, Revolver, and Metal Edge.

Shock Jock Howard Stern May Play Huge Role In Election

NOWAYBUSH.jpg

BY DICK POLMAN / Knight Ridder Newspapers

PHILADELPHIA - (KRT) - To the naked ear, Howard Stern is still our regent of raunch. Lately, he has groused to his loyal listeners about the zit on his nose and the cellulite on his butt, dished about his morning trysts with his model-girlfriend, and opined on the watchability of DVD porn.

But Stern has also ushered in the era of shock-jock politics, so when he split for a long vacation at the start of July, he minced no words:

"I'm not only anti-Bush, I support John Kerry. ... He's going to be the guy who gets us back on track. ... Our audience is really making a difference in this upcoming election. ... It turns out everyone listens to us, especially a lot of dudes who are swing voters."

This might seem a bit outlandish, the idea that Stern, who features a 30-second audio clip of flatulence on his Web site, would fancy himself a presidential power broker. After all, this is a guy whose ill-fated 1994 New York gubernatorial bid was based on only two issues: "Fix the roads at night, and kill the criminals."

But he has been railing against Bush for months, on everything from Iraq to gay rights, and this is a guy who each week commandeers 8.2 million pairs of ears; only Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity have bigger audiences. Stern is a fixture in a number of key states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio and Missouri. And, starting Monday, he is picking up three new markets in Florida, including the swing-voter cities of Orlando and Tampa, along with Pittsburgh.

"Howard is now a huge political force," insists Michael Harrison, a radio industry expert who edits Talkers magazine. "Look at his audience. These are normally apolitical people, the non-zealots, who generally haven't made up their minds about this election. ... That's very different from Limbaugh, who is only preaching to his choir of conservative listeners."

Matthew Felling, a former talk show personality and current media analyst, says: "This year, we could see more mullets and T-shirts at the polls than ever before. If Howard tells people to wake up 15 minutes early on Election Day to vote against Bush, it'll happen. Some of his listeners would consider it a debt paid for all the free entertainment he has given them. Some are so suggestible that they'd strip naked in his studio for a 12-pack of Powerade."

The Bush campaign is ignoring Stern's attacks, which began in earnest in March after the Federal Communications Commission cracked down on his crass talk. Bush spokesman Kevin Madden hews to the high road: "The American people are going to choose their President based on careful consideration of the big issues facing the country, namely the economy and winning the war on terror."

Other Bush backers are willing to utter Stern's name, if only to shrug him off. GOP pollster David Winston says: "Listeners may find it interesting that Stern opposes the President, but they'll put it in the context of entertainment. He's an entertainer, not a political sage."

But conservative commentator Rich Lowry senses potential trouble: "Obviously, the Bush people would be happier if Stern was praising Bush. ... And it's definitely true that popular culture seems to be breaking against Bush. Blockbuster movies and books are bashing Bush, and now there's Stern. It has all been negative. It shows you where the energy is."

Stern has been dissing Bush daily, calling him the kinds of names that ticked-off motorists usually use in traffic, and generally painting him as mortal danger to the republic. He has also retooled his official Web site, adding a plethora of anti-Bush links, and featuring a 60-second anti-Bush audio attack ("You committed American troops to war, but when it was your turn to go to war, you went to Daddy and said: `Boo hoo ...'.").

And fan Web sites record his every utterance. Here's a typical excerpt from June 28: "Howard said that ("Fahrenheit 9/11) is scary because it's so real and you see what the President is up to while in office. Howard spent a couple of minutes on that and then took a call from High Pitch Erik who was flushing the toilet."

Naturally, Stern's attacks have drawn the attention of Democrats - who decided last month to commission a poll about Stern. So they hired President Clinton's former pollster, Mark Penn. And they were pleasantly surprised to learn that - contrary to the stereotype - Stern's acolytes are not just kids who party hard and wear their baseball caps backward.

The first surprise, according to Penn: nationwide, 17 percent of all likely voters polled listen to Stern. The second: Stern fans are just as likely as non-fans to attend religious services daily or weekly; just as likely to be highly educated; more likely than non-fans to have young children at home; and more likely than non-fans to own a gun. In other words, average Americans. And Stern fans in 18 battleground states said that they now prefer Kerry over Bush by 59 percent to 37 percent.

Simon Rosenberg, who directs the New Democratic Network, the group that sponsored the poll, says: "Democrats have been hammered on conservative talk radio for years, and now we have a glimmer of hope. I've seen this guy's impact, first-hand. It's incredible. I went on his show (June 29) to talk about the poll, and right after that, 25,000 people downloaded the poll from our Web site."

And Tom Lindenfeld, a Democratic strategist, says: "What's compelling here is that Stern is not a political person. That makes him more genuine. His audience may not accept a political message from a normal political source, but they'll take it from him. He can open the door for us, and then maybe we can reinforce that message."

Some skeptics are trying to undercut Stern by questioning his motives - contending that his assaults are fueled not by concern for the commonweal, but for his career; after all, the Republican-led FCC has slapped him with heavy fines, and the Clear Channel Communications chain (whose owner is close to Bush) dumped Stern this year in several key markets.

That's why Lowry says: "I'm not sure how many swing voters are going to decide on the basis of, `Hey, let's vote to make sure that Howard doesn't have to pay any more fines,' as opposed to voting the way they normally vote - for their own pocketbooks."

And while some observers believe that Stern's politicization is sincere, they also detect a savvy strain of pragmatism; as Jesse Walker, an ex-disc jockey and author of a book on alternative radio, notes: "If he gets more political, it's harder to censor him, because the courts are more wary about suppressing political speech than, say, a discussion about penis size."

Stern critics vent in cyberspace, too. One ex-fan insists, in a posting on Rosenberg's Web site, that Stern "needs to stick to entertaining the demented, and keep his huge hypocritical nose out of politics."

On the air, Stern typically bristles at these kinds of barbs. He's currently vacationing, and his agent, Don Buchwald, did not respond to e-mailed questions about the critics. But Stern, who wants to be respected, has hinted in broadcasts that he would welcome a studio visit from John Kerry. Such an event could legitimize Stern as a broker, although he has also told listeners that he won't put the squeeze on Kerry for any favors.

Rosenberg loves the idea of a Kerry visit; the Democratic operative says: "We're a diverse party, so why not put Kerry on the air, and make Howard's fans part of our family?" But thus far, the Kerry campaign sees wisdom in avoidance ("I have no comment in any direction, 360 degrees," says spokeswoman Kathy Roeder), which means that it is heeding analyst Felling's argument that "you don't want to align yourself too closely with a guy who pines after porn stars on a daily basis."

It's still possible, of course, that there is no such thing as a shock-jock voting bloc, and that the politicized fans who are messaging Stern's Web site are aberrations ("I just love you so much! I've never registered to vote until recently and I will vote for Kerry. ... Some jerks at work don't like you, but I tell them to know their role and shut their holes.").

But maybe the Sterniacs are for real, as even some Republicans suspect. As party strategist Mike Murphy told conservative columnist Andrew Ferguson the other day, "Stern listeners should be Bush voters. ... He is a symptom that something's going wrong."

Or, as radio industry expert Harrison says: "In a close race, everything counts. Any slight, insult, remark or incident can count. That's when Howard would count."

Report: SID And NANCY's Punk Rock Tokens To Show

Sid_Nancy.jpg

A blood-spattered poster which hung in the room in which Nancy Spungen was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, late SEX PISTOLS bassist Sid Vicious, is to be displayed for the first time at an art exhibition in London, the Independent on Sunday said.

Artifacts from the couple's room at New York's Chelsea Hotel, where Spungen died from a stab wound to the stomach in 1978, will be shown publicly for the first time at The Hospital gallery at a date yet to be announced, according to Reuters.

Vicious was charged with second-degree murder over the killing, but died the following year of a heroin overdose at the age of 21.

Both Vicious and Spungen, whose tempestuous relationship was chronicled in the 1986 film "Sid and Nancy", injected drugs. It is unclear whether the spots of blood on the poster were a result of their use or of Spungen's bloody death, the Independent said.

The collection of artifacts, including original T-shirts, posters and handwritten lyrics, has been assembled over 15 years by art dealer Paul Stolper and Andrew Wilson, deputy editor of Art Monthly.

They told The Independent on Sunday that the hotel items were sold at auction by Sid Vicious' mother, Anne Beverley.

GENE SIMMONS: Release Date Set For 'Speaking In Tongues' DVD

GENEDVD.jpg

Simmons Audio Visual/Sanctuary Records Group has set an August 10 release date for the Gene Simmons DVD and CD, "Speaking In Tongues".

"Speaking In Tongues" chronicles Gene Simmons' first-ever, no-holds-barred "lecture tour" of Australia, shocking and tantalizing his audiences by speaking his mind on his favorite topics — money, success, fame, KISS and, of course — women! Other highlights from "Speaking In Tongues" include a fascinating in-depth look at one of rock 'n' roll's most legendary icon's private life, including his home, his family and his various business dealings. Additionally, the DVD and CD includes for the first time anywhere, over ten unheard and never-before-released Gene Simmons songs from the Seventies through the Nineties.

"Speaking In Tongues" is an intimate and revealing portrayal of Simmons' personal philosophies of life. Simmons (arguably the most opinionated man in music) states, "I decide things for myself, convention in society says I'm supposed to get married, I'm supposed to do this…I refuse. I'm a contradiction to all this stuff…I'm willing to bear all the criticism and I'm willing to take all the rewards. All the blame, but all the credit."

Gene is interviewed in the latest issue of MK MAGAZINE which is on sale now.

NEW YORK DOLLS Singer Comments On Bassist's Passing

nydolls.jpg

NEW YORK DOLLS frontman David Johansen has issued a statement regarding the passing of the group's bassist, Arthur Kane, Tuesday night (July 13) due to complications from leukemia.

"During rehearsal and the shows I was blessed to work with the Arthur I first met and loved 30 years ago," Johansen said in a statement released to Billboard.com. "The reunion was a source of great happiness for him, and the dynamic between [guitarist] Sylvain [Sylvain], Arthur and myself was brimming with unimaginable love. It's good to know that he went out on a high point in his musical life, but he will be sorely missed. His bass playing and presence were the heart & soul of the NEW YORK DOLLS and the secret ingredient of our sound."

The DOLLS are scheduled to release an album for Morrissey's Attack imprint in September, but no details have been revealed. "He was a very gentle soul and I know he lived for many years with the hope of a DOLLS reunion," Morrissey said in a statement released to Billboard.com. "When this happened — at the Royal Festival Hall in June — I know Arthur was thrilled to be back with David and Sylvain playing the music of the DOLLS to such enthusiastic crowds over two nights. I will always remember the look of bashful happiness on Arthur's face as people in the audience constantly called out his name. He was finally back where he belonged."

Kane is the fourth member of the pioneering glam rock outfit to pass away, including guitarist Johnny Thunders, who died of a drug overdose in 1991.

George Romero is set to direct Land of the Dead, a horror film that picks up the zombie saga that began in Romero's original Night of the Living Dead and continued with Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, Variety reported. New NIN Album Due In Early '05, But First Some Reissues

TRENT.jpg

The wait for Nine Inch Nails' follow-up to 1999's The Fragile will be over early next year, NIN mastermind Trent Reznor assured fans on the group's Web site Tuesday.

Reznor reported that he's considering a group of 20 tracks for Bleedthrough, many of which he wrote while "envisioning powerful live drumming." For that, Reznor enlisted the help of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who played on 15 of the tracks. Calling his collaboration with the former Nirvana drummer "one of the most inspiring and exciting experiences I've had in the studio," Reznor wrote that Grohl helped the tracks "come alive in a 'better-than-I'd-even-hoped-for' type way."

Although Reznor had earlier said he would be working with veteran producer Rick Rubin on the new LP, on Tuesday he revealed that he's decided to produce the album himself and play most of the music himself.

"Well," he wrote, "I feel very inspired right now, and I want this record to be what's inside my head, for better or for worse." He did, however, dub Rubin "a mentor, source of inspiration and guiding force throughout the process."

Reznor said he plans an extensive worldwide tour coinciding with the album's release early next year, and in the meantime NIN will reissue the 1997 home video "Closure" on DVD in the fall as well as a two-disc deluxe edition of 1994's The Downward Spiral, remastered and remixed in 5.1 surround sound.

CROSSBALL ON COMEDY CENTRAL "One of the funniest show's I've ever seen!"-AZ

crossballs.jpg

This show is actually laugh out loud funny and side splitting hilarious. They really fuck with people bad. Like Jackass meets Candid Camera meets The Daily Show. I highly recommend it" - AZ

NEW YORK -- Pity Corey Williams. The actor is on a contentious talk show, sparring with a guy who practices for reality TV by eating cow patties, another who's begging to get on air - and a professor who thinks The Next Big Show is a "real-life Hogan's Heroes" set in a concentration camp run by neo-Nazis.

But while Williams believes he's debating real people, he's ostensibly been ensnared in an elaborate web of deceit and in-your-face rhetoric - as if Bill O'Reilly had done "Candid Camera."

In the genre-bending and often hilarious "Crossballs," which premieres July 6 for an eight-week run on Comedy Central, the real is the fake, the fake is the real - and nobody knows which end is up.

Fiction, they say, is the lie that tells the truth. But what if it's half and half? What do the truth and the lie - served up together, blended into something that keeps everyone guessing even as it keeps the laughs coming - tell us?

"Crossballs" addresses this, hovering on the razor edge of plausibility (and, this being cable, body-function crudeness). As the show puts it: "Comedians posing as experts ... debating real people who don't know the show is fake."

Its talk-show format - "Out of the `Crossfire.' Beyond `Hardball,'" as the announcer intones - says it pits real guests recruited to debate real issues against improv actors portraying other "real" guests with audacious, often obnoxious opinions. The shows end without the con being revealed to the dupes, and a little nagging doubt remains - even for viewers.

Consider the episode on whether reality TV is a pursuit worthy of humanity. On one side you have Williams, the actor, brought on to defend his craft, and Stacy Vatanapan, who has worked on the production end of reality television.

"How much talent does it take to hang upside-down with a cow patty in your mouth?" Williams snaps.

On the other side is hard-core reality-TV vet Matthew Henson (played by Matt Besser), sporting a sleeveless, skull-festooned shirt and insisting that all professional actors are liars. "I'm not going to put words in your mouth," he tells Williams. "You let scripts do that for you."

Besser, the executive producer and one of those who dreamed up the idea, steals the show. His entirely un-PC characters (including the owner of the "Ozark Mountain Driving School") exhibit a simplicity and regular-guy tendentiousness that is exactly the Red America stereotype so feared by those on the coasts.

"Ever since 9/11, America's kind of changed. People, they're sick of the phonies in the world. They're sick of liars," Besser says to Williams. Under him appears the classic one-line TV identifier: "MATTHEW HENSON - REALITY TV BUGEATER."

(The superimposed text is one of the show's funniest characteristics, riffing off the weird things people say. Among them: "`Wizard of Oz' midget orgies?" "Knowing in advance: Ruins surprise?" And the classic "Bilingual drivers: Dangerous or peligroso?")

Host Chris Tallman, with an appealing combination of John Goodman's bluster and Albert Brooks' manic disbelief in the world around him, acts as the linchpin, moderating between his fake guests and the real ones and making sure no one can elaborate too much on an idea.

Among the impostors who make appearances:

- Jerry Wilson (Jerry Minor), self-described "bartender and taxi driver," who is offended that the police have impeded his moonlighting by preventing him from driving while intoxicated. "The problem is, people don't know how to drink and drive," he says.

- Activist Mary Glenn (Mary Birdsong) of "Mothers vs. Advanced Age Drivers (she pronounces it "maaaaaaaaaaaad"), who insists that major restrictions should be slapped on drivers over 55 - and that their tires should be slashed if necessary for their own good. Cut to the outrage on the face of Kai Hernandez, apparently a real-life advocate for elderly drivers.

- Andy Conroy (Andy Daly), a speech-impeded reality TV wannabe who has prepared a clip reel that depicts him setting traps for himself so he can be surprised - and promises he can forget all the humiliation so he can be surprised anew on a reality show.

"I want to be tricked," he says, smiling a beatific moron smile, and you can't stop staring at his green-brown striped V-neck sweater, which is clearly acrylic.

The social pressures of respect are fascinating to watch. The dupes are hesitant to be dismissive even as the remarks they field become more and more unbelievable.

When it's over, though, you're left wondering: Are the "actual people" legit? Or are they just another layer in the fabric of fakery?

"Is this guy for real?" Williams, the actor, says at one point.

It's a more valid question than even he realizes.

Contained in the nonsense of comedy is the absurdity of the "reality" that we're dealing with daily on television, and that's no small matter these days.

In the end, the improv actors and the real people collaborate to serve two major purposes: keep the arguments going and keep people interrupting each other, no matter the premise. And these days, how is that so different from real life, anyway?

JELLO BIAFRA Drops DEAD KENNEDYS Suit

JELLO.jpg

The Associated Press is reporting that former DEAD KENNEDYS lead singer Jello Biafra has dropped his remaining lawsuit against members of his band.

In May 2000, a jury convicted Biafra and his record label of breach of contract and fraud. In June 2003, a state appeals court upheld that decision and ordered Biafra to pay $220,000 in back royalties and other damages.

It also decided the band's creative output, including songs "Holiday in Cambodia" and "Kill the Poor", belongs to a partnership formed among the four band members.

But the panel reversed the lower court's decision to break up the partnership, remanding the case back to the trial court to determine whether a partnership among the band members should be dissolved and its assets sold.

On June 30, Biafra agreed "the partnership's assets would be substantially diminished" by breaking it up.

"Personally and professionally, I just want to put this entire chapter behind us and concentrate on making music again," bassist Klaus Flouride said.

The San Francisco-based punk band performed together from 1978 to 1986. The band re-formed without Biafra and has been playing as the DEAD KENNEDYS, according to their publicist, Josh Mills.

VIVID GIRLS TELL ALL IN PROVOCATIVE NEW BOOK FROM REGAN BOOKS

WORLD FAMOUS VIVID GIRLS SHOW AND TELL HOW TO HAVE A XXX SEX LIFE: THE ULTIMATE VIVID GUIDE

VIVIDBOOK1.jpg

NEW YORK CITY – (July 2004) – The Vivid Girls, the world’s most elite adult film stars, have written their own version of the tell-all book, How to Have a XXX Sex Life: The Ultimate Vivid Guide, which will be published July 20th by the ReganBooks division of HarperCollins. Alternating frankness with a playful tone, the adventurous actresses from the world’s leading adult film studio use a blend of specific tutorial and erotic fantasy to what may well be the Joy of Sex for the Twenty-first Century.

How to Have a XXX Sex Life: The Ultimate Vivid Guide will inspire men and women, singles and couples – anyone who wants to have better sex and healthier, more exciting and satisfying love lives. The 352-page trade paperback is co-authored with Dan Anderson and Maggie Berman.

Vivid Girls Savanna Samson and Sunrise Adams, along with other top Vivid contract stars like Jenna Jameson, Briana Banks, Mercedez, Kira Kener, Tawny Roberts, and Dasha, provide much of the narrative for the book. They demonstrate why they are at the forefront of an amazing phenomenon: the increasing acceptance and unabashed enjoyment of adult entertainment as a mainstream offering.

How to Have a XXX Sex Life: The Ultimate Vivid Guide is the single most comprehensive erotic guide a major publisher has ever dared touch, according to ReganBooks. It is more than just an instructional manual with a list of positions and techniques; it features a treasure-trove of red-hot tips on flirting, playful suggestions about foreplay, and in-depth discussion of the dos and don’ts of the most exotic sexual acts imaginable. Since the writers are the best in the world at what they do, the validity of the information is irrefutable. What makes it more fun is that the narrative is tied together by real-life anecdotes experienced by the wildest, most passionate women on film.

It all begins with communication, says Jenna Jameson, who has been called the woman who “put the star in porn star.” “It’s really important for a man to communicate with her, to ask what technique she likes,” Jenna tells readers. “There are so many ways to do it, and every girl is different.”

According to Savanna Samson, who won the AVN Award for Best Actress in a Film in 2004, “fantasies are healthy…a lot of my fantasies have a lot to do with stuff I have done on camera first that I would like to re-enact and experience in my real life. “The best part of being a porn star is that it is totally positive in its own way,” writes Sunrise Adams (her Vivid film Heart of Darkness won the AVN Award for Best Film in 2004). “I like knowing that I’m fulfilling people’s fantasies and desires, maybe even helping their own romantic relationships.”

Watching adult films is itself an educational experience, according to Mercedez. “You know the guys who are going to be the worst in bed are the ones who have perfect hair and perfect tans,” she writes. “I’d much rather go with a regular guy, especially one who says ‘I watch porn all the time.’ Those are the guys I want to take home. You know they will be open to trying stuff.”

Mainstream Media File Erroneous Reports About Hilton Video

PARISPIC.jpg

From AVN.com
by: Dan Miller

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Two mainstream media outlets incorrectly reported today that Paris Hilton had reached a settlement with ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon over their infamous sex video that is being distributed by Red Light District.

The New York Daily News reported that Salomon and Red Light District had agreed to pay the hotel heiress over $400,000 and a percentage of sales of the hot-selling One Night in Paris. CNN's Headline News ran a similar report about a settlement earlier this afternoon.

However, no such agreement has been reached and both reports are false, AVN.com confirmed.

TEXAS TERRI TO ROCK THE BALLS OFF CHICAGO

(see her interview in the new issue of MK MAGAZINE)

TXT.jpg

Monday AUGUST 23 in Chicago, IL @ Bottom Lounge [3206 N. Wilton St]

Texas Terri will steal your heart away and you will not want her to give it back!

Texas Terri Bomb's (formerly Texas Terri & the Stiff Ones) new full length record, "Your Lips...My Ass!" (TKO Records) was produced by world renowned Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, John Lennon, Alice Cooper, Patti Smith, New York Dolls). Some special guests joined in for the recordings including Wayne Kramer (MC5), Marc Diamond (Dwarves/Motochrist), Dave Teague (Dickies), Ryan Roxie (Alice Cooper) and Cherie Currie (The Runaways) sings a duet with Texas Terri on the Thin Lizzy song "The Rocker". Texas Terri and her band perform their song "Oh Yeah" in the movie "Prey for Rock & Roll", starring Gina Gershon & Lori Petty and there are at least 4 others movies this year alone that will be released featuring their songs.

In this world of pre-fab music -- why settle? Aren't you hungry for more? Texas Terri's street credibility puts her miles above others. Originally from Austin, TX -- she has earned her title as "underground legend" in the punk rock & roll world. Always fresh and full of spontaneity with that early NYC / CBGB edge -- Texas Terri has been compared to the likes of Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Wendy O. Williams, Joan Jett -- but she still has the distinction of holding her own individuality. Her voice and persona is tough girl attitude with sex kitten charisma and every emotion in between.

" Texas Terri : simply outrageous! Heralding from the underground music scene of Hollywood, California, Texas Terri & The Stiff Ones WILL entertain you. You WILL notice them. They WILL affect you. There is no escape."
-- Matt Harrell That's Live.com

"L.A.'s female Iggy Pop, Terri is hard-core, leaving a cigarette burn right through you heart." -- Heidi Sigmund-Cuda, Pulse! Magazine (Tower Records)

"A local favorite led by longtime scenester Texas Terri Laird, this venerable rock act comes on like The Stooges, albeit with Laird's whiskey throated voice in Iggy's stead." -- Scot Lenz, Buzz Weekly

"A truly kinetic and moving stage performer, Texas Terri is an impassioned punk rocker!" -- Bruce Rorers, Maximum Rock & Roll

Universal Picks up Documenatry on Deep Throat

DEEPTHROAT.jpg

By: Scott Ross from AVN.com

LOS ANGELES - Universal Pictures has agreed to distribute an unrated documentary from Imagine Entertainment about the most profitable independent movie of all time – Deep Throat.
According to the Daily Variety, Inside Deep Throat will include interviews with Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, Carl Bernstein, Hugh Hefner, Norman Mailer, Gore Vidal and John Waters, as producer Brian Grazer searches for what made the 1972 adult film starring Linda Lovelace into the huge cross over hit.

"There were 50 years, at least, of pornography that preceded Deep Throat. Deep Throat had a great title and it celebrated the right iconic act -- it celebrated a blowjob," Grazer said. "Because of the title and what it successfully celebrated, it became the most litigated, most profitable movie ever."

Directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato of World of Wonder, Inside Deep Throat examines the cultural impact of the 1972 porn classic, in addition to digging up dirt around the movie, including revealing how anti-porn crusaders were responsible for lining the pockets of Mafia enforcers.

It could be argued that the fact that Imagine Entertainment, better known for big budget comedies and dramas, is involved with the documentary at any level is proof enough of the film's cultural significance.

The documentary will include graphic sex scenes, which will limit the distribution of the unrated film.

"It's provocative, of course," Grazer told Variety. "We have to include archival footage that makes it unrated. It's the accident of the skill of Linda Lovelace that turned a movie called The Nurses into a movie called Deep Throat that then became a cultural phenomenon."

The documentary was financed in part by HBO.

The Doors - Live in Europe 1968 DVD Out on July 27th

DOORSLOGO.jpg

New York, NY - Eagle Rock Entertainment delivers The Doors at the height of their popularity with the release of The Doors - Live In Europe 1968 in 5.1 DTS Digital Surround Sound on July 27, 2004.

Filmed during their 1968 European tour, The Doors’ stage show is at its peak in performances from London, Stockholm, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam. Paul Kantner and Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane, who shared the bill with The Doors on this tour, narrate the DVD. The Doors - Live In Europe 1968 features rare versions of “Alabama Song,” “Light My Fire,” “Love Me Two Times,” “Hello, I Love You” and more.

Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger made an enormous impact on the music world in their few years of existence before Morrison’s death in 1971. The Doors - Live In Europe 1968 captures the band touring in support of Waiting For The Sun, known by many fans to be their strongest and most cohesive effort.

Live In Europe 1968 shows a polished and professional version of the Venice quartet, preceding the bloated, drunken, tripped out sermons that eventually took over their stage show.

Remastered in 5.1 DTS Digital Surround Sound, The Doors - Live In Europe 1968 hits the streets July 27, 2004 through Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Track List

Light My Fire
Love Me Two Times
Back Door Man

Pastor Uses Fear of the Devil to Get Sex

churchscandal.jpg

Thanks to AdultFYI for the lead

SAN DIEGO - A pastor who allegedly used the fear of the devil to induce several undocumented women to have sex with him at the homes of congregation members pleaded innocent today to criminal charges.

Carlos Romero, 59, faces up to five years and eight months in state prison if convicted of two counts of inducing sex by fear and one count of making a criminal threat against three alleged victims, said Deputy District Attorney Patrick Espinoza.

The prosecutor alleged that Romero induced the women to consent to sex, telling them that if they didn't, the devil would do something to them.

He admitted to police that he knew what he was doing was wrong," Espinoza said outside court.

The defendant allegedly threatened one woman with injury if she told anyone about the sexual encounters, the prosecutor said.

According to La Mesa police, Romero is a minister to about a dozen people and holds nondenominational services in the homes of his Apostolic Church members.

Espinoza asked anyone with information about alleged illegal acts committed by the defendant to call La Mesa police at (619) 667-1419.

Romero was arrested a week ago in Kearny Mesa, where he worked as a transit employee.

An investigation was launched May 8 when a 31-year-old La Mesa woman reported Romero to police, authorities said. She alleged that her pastor told her that only by having sex with him could she be protected from the devil, La Mesa police said.

The woman claimed she had been induced to have sex with the cleric several times. During the investigation, police found two other women who told the same story, authorities said.

One of the women -- a 38-year-old -- allegedly started having sex with the defendant in January. The other alleged victim -- a 37-year-old woman -- began having sex with Romero in March of 1996, police said.

Romero remains free on $45,000 bail. Superior Court Judge Peter Deddeh set a readiness conference for Aug. 6 and a preliminary hearing for Aug

Danzig Announces 'Blackest of Black' Tour Dates, To Include Misfits "Reunion"; May Be Danzig's Last-Ever Tour

“BLACKEST OF THE BLACK” TOUR 2004 Announces Fall Line Up and Last DANZIG Tour

It will be Danzig with ex-Misfits bandmate Doyle in a guest set, original Black Metal Legends Mayhem, DevilDriver, featuring former Coal Chamber frontman Dez Farfara, Death Angel reunion (S.F. Death Metal Legends) and dark newcomers Eyes of Fire.

“Blackest of the Black” organizer Glenn Danzig had this comment: "At least in the foreseeable future... this will be my last tour. As this may be the last show for Glenn Danzig to tour as Danzig, he explains about the show and line-up with former band-mate Doyle. “So, to do this right, I invited Doyle to join Danzig on stage at "Blackest Of The Black" for a ‘Special Guest’ Misfits set. This is the first time we will be performing on stage together in 20 years. It's the closest thing to a Misfits reunion anyone is ever going to see!” Danzig will be supporting their new album Circle Of Snakes, on sale August 31st, 2004. This year’s "Blackest Of The Black" looks to be an Epic and Darkly monumental event. Tickets will go on sale July 25.

Fantastic Four Cast Comes Together

FF.jpg

Confirming earlier rumors, Fox has signed Michael Chiklis, Ioan Gruffudd and Chris Evans as three-fourths of the Fantastic Four, Variety reported. Chiklis (TV's The Shield) will play Ben Grimm/The Thing; Gruffudd (King Arthur) will play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, and Evans will play Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, the trade paper reported.

Jessica Alba (Sin City) has emerged as most likely to play Sue Richards/the Invisible Woman, though Rachel MacAdams (Mean Girls) and Keri Russell (TV's Felicity) are also candidates, the trade paper reported.

As in the Marvel Comic series on which it is based, Fantastic Four will deal with four astronauts who develop superhuman powers after their experimental spaceship is exposed to cosmic rays. They band together to fight against the evil Doctor Doom, the trade paper reported.

The $85 million-$90 million movie is headed for an August or September start in Vancouver, B.C., with a planned release date of July 1, 2005. Tim Story (Barber Shop) will direct, from a script by Simon Kinberg.

Traci Lords on Independent Film Channel

LORDS.jpg

Traci Lords has reinvented herself again.
The woman who was known for her underage porn films and moved on to a successful (and legal) career in movies, TV and books says she has become "Simon Cowell with legs."

Lords, 35, is the sassiest of three judges on "Ultimate Film Fanatic," a game show on cable's Independent Film Channel that lets various breeds of film geeks face off to decide who knows the most arcane trivia, who can debate movies most successfully - even who owns the dorkiest movie-related paraphernalia.

The other judges are Richard (Shaft) Roundtree and Jason Mewes, the "Jay" of the Kevin Smith films.

SLAYER "Reign In Blood" Live DVD

SLAYER.jpg

SLAYER MASTERPIECE, “REIGN IN BLOOD,” TO BE CORNERSTONE OF NEW DVD

Slayer’s 2004 Summer Touring Schedule Includes
Ozzfest, Slipknot and Judas Priest Dates

SLAYER devotees, rejoice! For the first time in the band’s long career, fans will be able to see the original Slayer line-up performing an entire concert live on DVD when the band releases “Reign In Blood Live: Still Reigning” on September 28, 2004. The DVD will have an approximate 75-minute running time and will retail for $14.98.

On “Reign In Blood: Still Reigning,” the original members of Slayer - Tom Araya (vocals, bass), guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo (who permanently rejoined the band in 2003) - will perform in its entirety “Reign In Blood,” the 28-minute, 1986 classic considered to this day the pinnacle album of its genre.

“’Reign in Blood’ is our signature record, and if people think that it helped set the path for that genre of music, that’s great,” said Araya. “It’s a record that means a lot to all of us in the band - it was our first record for a major label, and our first record with Rick Rubin who gave it unconditional support.”

“Reign In Blood: Still Reigning” will be directed by Dean Karr (Iron Maiden's "Rock in Rio, the groundbreaking "Sweet Dreams" for Marilyn Manson), and is set to be shot this Sunday, July 11 at the Civic Center in Augusta, ME. Ten cameras, including three hand-held mini-DVs, will capture Slayer throughout the day and evening, filming an abundance of footage and interviews shot backstage, on the band’s tour bus, and live on stage.

In an effort to revisit the look and feel of the time, the band will have a special “Reign In Blood” stage backdrop, and has recreated some of the original stage banners from the mid-80’s “Reign In Blood”-era tour dates, which incorporate the Slayer eagle and the controversial upside-down crosses that are part of the lighting rig. And some special on-stage surprises are planned for the DVD.

“If what we’re planning for the final 45-seconds of the song ‘Raining Blood’ looks half as cool as we hope it will,” added guitarist King, “the kids will be blown away. And we’ll probably have to replace all of our gear!”

Named the “Best Live Band Ever” by Revolver magazine and “Best Band” in that magazine’s 2004 “Readers’ Poll,” Slayer remains the heaviest, the fastest, and the band that crafted the brutal thrash-punk-metal blueprint that countless bands have emulated for more than two decades. Their full-throttle velocity, wildly chaotic guitar solos, and powerful musical chops paint an effectively chilling sonic background for their obsessive chronicling of the dark side.

Slayer will play the Main Stage at this Summer’s Ozzfest, due to kick off this Saturday, July 10, joining Ozzy, Black Sabbath, the recently reunited Judas Priest, Philip Anselmo’s Superjoint Ritual, Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society and Norwegian black metal mavens Dimmu Borgir. On the Ozzfest offdays, Slayer will co-headline a slew of concerts with Slipknot or Judas Priest. The full itinerary is as follows:

Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man 2 earned an estimated $180.1 million from 4,152 theaters in its first six days of release during the 4th of July holiday, setting a record for biggest first six days ever, surpassing The Matrix Reloaded which collected $146.9 million in the same amount of time last year. The first Spider-Man earned $144.2 million its first six days, but that opened on a Friday. For the three-day period from Friday to Sunday, the Spidey sequel made $88.3 million, which is the top 4th of July opening in history, passing the studio's own Men in Black II, which pulled in $52.1 million for the three days. For the four days, Friday to Monday, the sequel made $115.8 million. Spidey 2 also marks the biggest 5-day opening total for a film with $152.6 million, a record also previously held by "Reloaded" ($144.4 million). The $88.3 million is the biggest opening weekend ever for the month of July, dropping Austin Powers in Goldmember's $73.1 million to second place. While it didn't pass the first Spidey film's weekend record of $114.8 million, again the sequel opened on Wednesday which gave moviegoers a lot of time to see it before the weekend.

A Farmer Kills Zimbabwe Man Ater 'Mistaking Him For a Baboon'

oon.jpg

"I THOUGHT he was a baboon," that is what a white South African farmer told
the police after shooting dead a Zimbabwean worker in Musina, just along the
border with Zimbabwe.

Evil Jewell Crossberg not only shot Jealous Dube of Mberengwa but went on to
lie to the cops about the circumstances of his death, it was revealed in court.
South Africa Police Services Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, Senior
Superintendent Motlasalaphela Mojapelo said Dube was shot dead on Tuesday
morning, apparently after a row.

Crossberg has appeared in court and was bailed out for R8000. South African
prosecutors will tell the court when the trial opens that after committing the
murder, Crossberg proceeded to Musina police where he reported he had shot
Dube after mistaking him for a BABOON.

"The deceased was shot under his left armpit by his employer, Mr Jewell
Crossberg on Tuesday at around 0730 am using a 20.38 special revolver. He
(Crossberg) hid the body at his farm after which he rushed to Musina Police station where he made a report alleging that he shot the deceased after mistaking him for a baboon", Supt Mojapelo told the Chronicle newspaper.

A police probe later left the police convinced that Crossberg deliberately
shot at Dube. Eyewitnesses told the police the two had a misunderstanding which
culminated in Crossberg pulling his gun and taking aim at the Zimbabwean.

new Singapore Sling Out Sept 14

singapore_sling.jpg

New York's Stinky Records label will release the second album from Iceland's Sinagpore Sling, Life Is Killing My Rock 'N' Roll September 14. They play NYC's Mercury Lounge July 15. This is what some folks thought of their '03 debut album.

Iceland’s Singapore Sling turn fuzzed-out guitars and lanky rhythms into the kind of psychedelic wall of sound that My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus and Mary Chain used to make. For the band’s debut CD, songwriter Henrick Bjornsson stacked layer upon layer of guitar drone, relenting only on the strummy and oddly buoyant ‘Summer Garden…. the Curse is quite a heavy piece of work. Heavy, not with the metal connotation, but like the hippies used to say: weighty, important. Awesome.” – Jenny Eliscu/Rolling Stone

Berry Out Of X3 - Fantastic Four Casting News

halle.jpg

Handbag.com reports that Halle Berry will not be back for a third "X-Men" movie because her character, Storm, isn't going to be in it enough. According to their insider, "Halle was ready to do X-Men 3, but only if Storm was given more storyline, but the studio sees the third movie as a means to wrap up the trilogy, and that means Storm won't be featured more than Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Halle has now passed on the third movie because she's not into bit-parts. She's an Oscar winner and she wants roles that test her". As a result, producers are now apparently looking to singer and actress Christina Milian as a possible replacement. (So what's her excuse for CATWOMAN? - AZ)

In more solid news, Latino Review has learned that "Not Another Teen Movie" & "Cellular" star Chris Evans has been offered the role of Johnny Storm (aka. The Human Torch) in Fox's "The Fantastic Four". Tim Story wants Evans and that he loved him so much that he apparently offered him the role right there on the spot.

The final list now according to the most solid rumours seems to be Ioan Gruffodd ("Horatio Hornblower", "King Arthur") as Mr. Fantastic, Rachel McAdams ("The Notebook", "Mean Girls") as Susan Storm, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, and Michael Chiklis (TV's "The Shield") as Ben Grimm. An official announcement is due any moment.

Three New Jenna Jameson Action Figures From Plastic Fantasy

JENNAHALLO.jpg

By: Ron Martin for AVN.com

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Plastic Fantasy decided that just one Halloween-themed action figure of multiple-AVN Award winner Jenna Jameson wouldn’t be enough – so they created three costumes for her to wear in “Halloween 2004,” a new set of adult action figures. Of course, as with all Plastic Fantasy figures, the clothes are removable and the bodies realistic.

Two of the figures are variations of the same costume. “Devil Girl Jenna,” can be purchased with Jameson wearing a fiery red miniskirt, wearing horns on her head, and holding a triton. The same costume can be purchased with Jameson’s skin painted a fiery red that matches her miniskirt.

The third figure is “Halloween Jenna,” which is Jameson dressed up as a sexy witch about to take a ride on her broom.

All three figures hold pumpkins.

Jerry Macaluso, founder of Plastic Fantasy, Inc., predicted that the new Jameson action figure toys would sell out – as did the last two Jameson figures he created. “We are confident that this latest version of Jenna will appeal to a greater fan base and will sell out faster then all the previous versions,” Macaluso said.

The new action figures will begin shipping in late July, and will retail for $19.99 each.
