"Inside Deep Throat" Has Sundance Buzzing

Inside Deep Throat.jpg

Movie will open in the country's 10 biggest cities in February

--The Seattle Times

PARK CITY, Utah — It's the dirtiest film ever to become a blockbuster, but it's also the independent filmmaker's dream: a movie made for $25,000 that ultimately grossed $600 million.

Welcome "Deep Throat," www.xxxdeepthroat.com flag-bearer of the indie film movement.

Not all would agree, of course, but "Inside Deep Throat," Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato's documentary chronicling the lasting cultural impact of that infamous 1972 porn movie, was nonetheless the most buzzed-about premiere of the Sundance Film Festival's opening weekend.

"Inside Deep Throat" played last week to a packed auditorium of almost 1,300 festival-goers. The following night saw the debut of Paul Provenza and Penn Jillette's in-competition documentary "The Aristocrats," in which almost 100 comics retell perhaps the filthiest joke ever.

Yes, the mountain air has been infused with raunch.

"Inside Deep Throat," which Universal is releasing in February, is part "Kinsey" (its view of the nation's former state of sexual repression), part "The People Vs. Larry Flynt" (the recounting of censorship/First Amendment battles, culminating in the criminal trial of leading man Harry Reems) and part "Boogie Nights" (immersion in the pre-video porn world, all set to a fab '70s soundtrack that includes "Spill the Wine").

With its graphic movie clips and the subject's frank treatment, "Inside Deep Throat" will become that very rare species: a major-studio NC-17 film (Universal's first since 1990's "Henry & June").

Producer Brian Grazer, who shepherded the project and eventually hired the co-directors of "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" and "Party Monster," said the movie will open in the country's 10 biggest cities, most likely in art houses, and go from there. "I'm a bit scared about it," Grazer said after the premiere, referring to the film's ultimate reception.

His best-case scenario would be to export the Sundance crowd to every theater. The audience was enthusiastic, not only in its appreciation for the zippy filmmaking but also the politics — which, it must be said, get a bit fuzzy when feminists are blamed for thwarting the sexual revolution with their anti-porn stance.

Audience members booed and even heckled the prosecutors and censorship advocates, and they cheered Reems, particularly when an end title noted that he's currently a real-estate broker in Park City. Reems subsequently received a standing ovation when brought to the stage for the post-screening Q&A.

Most questions were respectful, though one audience member took the movie to task for appearing to suggest that '70s porn was morally superior to contemporary porn. At least one critic grumbled afterward that he'd had his fill of "porn nostalgia."

For his part, Grazer said he's far from a pornography advocate but felt that no one had focused on the connection between "Deep Throat" and the pop-culture prevalence of sexual imagery and content. "As a parent, I don't like that it's in every aspect of our society, that everything is sexualized," Grazer said. "On the other hand, it's interesting the seismic effect that this little movie 'Deep Throat' had."

That effect was in full display at the late-night "Inside Deep Throat" party, held in a warehouselike space decorated with American flags and balloons.

The light gift bags, distributed upon exiting, contained red and blue tissue paper and a solitary envelope containing a card on which was printed the First Amendment.

Thanks for the lecture, but most partygoers looked like they would have preferred some Kiehl's lotions.

"Inside Deep Throat" wasn't the only party Friday night. In the incongruous setting of a steel-and-glass office building's atrium, the highly energetic hip-hop dancers of David LaChapelle's exuberant documentary "Rize" exhorted the badge-and-cellphone crowd to get its groove on.

That they tried to do, with Pamela Anderson hopping up to shake her silicone with the dancers. Naomi Watts, the always-game star of poorly received "Ellie Parker" (a rambling, shot-on-video tale of how tough it is to be a struggling Los Angeles actress), bopped close to the action while other members of the beautiful-people crowd — the Hilton sisters, Jenny McCarthy and several women who looked just like Jenny McCarthy — took off early.

Source: Maxpower

'Maxpower' attended this weekend's "FX Show" in Florida and says J.K. Simmons, who plays J. Jonah Jameson in the "Spider-Man" movies, gave an update on Spider-Man 3:

Hi there! Love the site. I was at the FX Show this weekend, and spent some time talking to JK Simmons. According to him, they start shooting Spider-Man 3 in three months, and release date is Spring 2007. Course, things may change, but this is what the man said!

We're pretty sure they'll keep that May 4, 2007 release date, but it's cool to hear that shooting may get underway so soon already.

Zombie's 'Rejects' One Sheets and New Trailer in March

ZOMBIE.jpg

House of 1000 Corpses fans get psyched, because Lions Gate Films begins promoting Rob Zombie's sequel Devil's Rejects in March. Rob Zombie updated fans on his official message board, you can read what he had to say inside. The sequel to "House of 1000 Corpses" centers on a band of bounty hunters led by Sheriff Wydell's brother who is fueled by revenge when he finds out that his kin was slain by the Firefly family. The film will pick up shortly after the first with the Firefly clan going on the road after their house is burned down and a few family members have been gunned down during a police raid. 'Devil's Rejects' hits theaters August 12.

Rob writes on his official board:

"Well, here's the scoop. Everything is moving along great. We are at the final stages of post production and the film looks amazing. I finally got to see the color corrected film on the big screen and it is awesome.

Also the music is totally coming together. Tyler Bates has created a one-of-kind score. It is dark and disturbing. Not your typical Hollywood shit.

The FX are almost complete and those are looking sweet as f*ck.

What more can I say? Everything is right on track. Look for a new trailer and the first one sheet posters to hit theatres in March!

Botox May Soothe 'Musician's Cramp'

BOTOX.jpg

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Injections of the wrinkle-banisher Botox may help soothe the involuntary muscle contractions that plague some professional musicians, according to a new study.

Musicians are particularly susceptible to a condition known as focal task-specific dystonia, in which muscles affecting one part of the body -- the hand, for instance -- contract involuntarily during a particular activity. For musicians, that means suffering muscles spasms when they attempt to play their instruments -- a potentially career-ending problem sometimes called 'musician's cramp.'

Hand dystonia, seen in musicians such as pianists, guitarists and string players, can cause the fingers to contract and curl under when the musician tries to perform. Another form of dystonia, embouchure dystonia, affects the muscles of the face, jaw and tongue in brass and woodwind players.

A number of treatment options exist, including oral medications, movement-based therapies and botulinum toxin type A -- better known as Botox, one of its brand names. Though most often regarded as the enemy of frown lines, Botox has long been used to treat the uncontrolled muscle contractions that mark a number of medical conditions, such as cerebral palsy and chronic eye-muscle spasms.

Botox is a purified form of the toxin that causes botulism food poisoning. When injected in small doses, botulinum toxin helps relax spastic muscles by preventing nerve cells from releasing a chemical that triggers muscle contractions.

For the new study, published in the journal Neurology, researchers surveyed 84 German musicians with focal dystonia who had received injections of Dysport, a UK brand of botulinum toxin. The group included pianists, string players, guitarists and woodwind and brass players, most of whom had hand dystonia affecting one or two fingers.

Overall, 69 percent said they felt the treatment had helped them, with a majority saying they'd had a "noticeable improvement" in their performance. However, fewer patients -- 36 percent -- reported a lasting improvement in their ability to perform.

Dr. Stephan Schuele of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio led the study.

At the time of the survey, 24 of the 84 patients were still receiving botulinum toxin injections, having been treated for an average of 3 years. The fact that relatively few patients continued with the therapy illustrates the difficulty of treating focal dystonia in musicians, whose livelihood requires an "exquisite level of motor control," according to an editorial published with the report.

Still, the study results are "encouraging," write Drs. Seth L. Pullman and Anna H. Hristova of Columbia University Medical Center in New York.

They refer to the case of the famous pianist Leon Fleisher as a Botox "success story." Hand dystonia had for 30 years limited Fleisher to playing compositions for the left hand, but since starting botulinum injections he has been able to expand to a two-handed repertoire.

A potential pitfall of the therapy is the muscle weakness it causes, Pullman and Hristova point out. Nearly all patients in the current study had some muscle weakness after their injections, which were given in the forearm in most cases.

Short-term weakness, the editorialists note, is to be expected, and for most patients with focal dystonia the side effect is not a problem. But it can be a serious obstacle for professional musicians with busy performance schedules.

The Other Hollywood: The History of Porn Told By Those Who Lived It

ohholly.jpg

Source: www.avn.com

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - The adult movie industry has been written about extensively, pro and con, in theory, polemics, gossip, and tell-all autobiography. But until now its tangled history has never been told in full, certainly not by the people who lived it.

That’s what makes the February 15 publication of The Other Hollywood: The Uncensored History of the Porn Film Industry, by Legs McNeil and Jennifer Osborne with Peter Pavia, a milestone event.

Published by Regan Books/Harper Collins, it traces the history of the XXX movie business from its first stirrings in the late 1960s until the end of the last decade—entirely in the words of those who participated in it.

The book is the result of hundreds of interviews with producers, performers, law enforcers, both friends and foes. Most were conducted in person; some quotes, from the deceased or the uncooperative, were taken from published sources.

“For a storyteller, this is a great story,” McNeil told AVN.com, “and nobody had done a book on it. The books I found about porn were all theory.”

McNeil, the author of Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk, had his first introduction to porn when he worked on the movie Blow Dry in 1974. “I met a lot of people and I liked them,” he said, “and I wondered what happened to them.”

ohholly2.jpg

For an oral history, he said, “you need 30 years and core group of people who have been together all that time,” and the porn industry filled that requirement perfectly.

He began work on the book in 1997, the year after his punk book was published. He learned about porn as he’d learned about punk, by talking in depth to the people involved.

But selling it wasn’t easy. The subject was taboo.

“I pitched the idea to every publisher in New York and everybody turned it down,” he said. It wasn’t until 2000, when he produced a three-hour Court TV documentary, Adults Only: The Secret History of the Other Hollywood, that interest was shown.

He made a deal with publisher Judith Regan in 2000, the same year his co-writer Jennifer Osborne came on board. It took them four years to weave a narrative from the enormous amount of transcribed talk.

“It was a ton of work,” Osborne said. “It took as long as it did for me to get my bachelor’s degree.”

Like McNeil, she had her eyes opened along the way. “It was so much more complex than I originally thought when I first entered into it,” she said. “Every time we talked to somebody, new facets of the story would open up, new layers would peel off.”

McNeil feels the book will open everyone’s eyes to the reality of the adult industry. It used to be, he said, that “people could say anything they wanted about the porn industry, because nobody knew what they were talking about.” The Other Hollywood, he hopes, will change all that.

McNeil and Osborne will kick off the book’s publication at a party in New York on February 15. After that they’ll go on a national promotional tour Seattle, San Francisco, Portland, Los Angeles, New Haven and other cities.

What follows below is a review by Jared Rutter of The Other Hollywood that appears in the February edition of AVN:

The Other Hollywood: The Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Film Industry.

Legs McNeil, with Jennifer Osborne and Peter Pavia. ReganBooks. HarperCollins Publishers, Inc., 10 East 53rd Street, New York, NY 10022. 620 pps.

This is an easy book to pick up — even at 600-plus pages — and a hard one to put down. It’s a milestone — there’s nothing else like it in its thoroughness and range — and very few history books are as constantly entertaining.

The people who made porn’s history, good guys and bad guys, major and minor, speak for themselves. The endless hours of interviews conducted by Legs McNeil and his team have been skillfully winnowed down to a fast-moving, colorful narrative. Folks who are no longer around, or no longer on speaking terms, are represented by quotes from books and magazine interviews.

This is the story of how a multi-billion dollar industry was created from taking moving pictures of people having sex, and the hucksters, mobsters, opportunists and, yes, artists who cashed in on it.

Not surprisingly from an author who has also chronicled the rise of punk rock, the focus is on porn’s most lurid aspects: scandals, drugs, murders, suicides. But then, the fact is that much of the history of adult entertainment is every bit as lurid as many people think.

Those who believe that porn was created by hoodlums and sleazeballs, with performers who were space cadets or borderline nuts, will find validation here. Those who know that also present at the creation were sexual trailblazers, artists of spirit and talent, and some genuinely swell human beings, will find equal proof in these pages.

McNeil just presents the testimonies; he leaves the judgments to the reader.

For example, actor Eric Edwards’ memories of a shoot with Linda Lovelace (the notorious dog loop) are juxtaposed with hers (taken from the book Ordeal), and the listener is allowed to make his own mind. Even if you thought you knew all about, say, Lovelace or John Holmes or Traci Lords, you’ll learn more here, thanks to the often contrasting views of those who knew them.

AVN Publisher and Editor Tim Connelly, himself a former performer who knew many of the players, provides a running thread of commentary that sets the stage for various events.

The book begins with the first stirrings of the sex film industry, in the form of bland nudist camp movies. Pioneers like Russ Meyer and pin-up photographer Bunny Yeager laid the groundwork for something far more exciting. Producer Dave Friedman, the king of the nudie cuties in their late 1960s heyday, oversaw the remaking of burlesque houses into dirty movie theaters.

The early 1970s was mostly about hardcore loops, which flourished in New York. Here’s Fred Lincoln on the free-loving atmosphere of a 1971 hippie porn set: “Everybody fucked while they were waiting to fuck. We’d fuck before — we’d fuck after — we’d fuck during.”

The picture the book paints of mad Manhattan in the ’70s — live sex shows, Plato’s Retreat, endless supplies of drugs — is both exhilarating (the heady freedom) and chilling (the substance abuse).

From that era emerged the low-budget but high earning Deep Throat, which, to the astonishment of the crime family that financed it, became an instant gold mine. There are mind-boggling descriptions of barrels full of cash collected from the theaters that showed it.

Meanwhile in San Francisco, the Mitchell Brothers were creating their own box office phenomenon with Behind the Green Door and its Ivory Soap box-cover star Marilyn Chambers.

The success of Throat and Door ushered in not only Porno Chic, but also a flood of investigations, arrests and prosecutions, mostly on the federal level. The Other Hollywood offers perhaps the best record ever of the trials and tribulations perpetrated on the industry, from the Memphis-based Deep Throat trials to the years-long MIPORN investigation.

Quite a bit of the MIPORN data comes from actual FBI wiretaps. At its heart was the creation of a dummy porn company fronted by two undercover FBI agents, Bruce Ellavsky and Pat Livingston. The psychic wear and tear of assuming another identity over so many years led to Livingston’s mental breakdown, one of the oddest and saddest stories in the annals of the Bureau.

These chapters show the essential futility of trying to stop the manufacture of a First Amendment-protected product enjoyed by multitudes. Says agent Bill Kelly, the most quoted of many law enforcement figures: “At the time MIPORN went into operation, pornography was a four billion dollar a year business — and by the time the operation was over, porn was about an eight billion dollar industry. So we had absolutely no permanent effect on interstate transportation of obscene matter at all.”

The life of John Holmes and his involvement in the Wonderland murders is conveyed here much more colorfully than in the recent movie. There are new details about Traci Lords scandal; the suicides of Shauna Grant, Savannah and Cal Jammer; the murder of Artie Mitchell by his brother Jim; and the gunning down of Teddy Snyder, who met his end with a vial of coke in his hand.

The history winds down in the late 1990s, around the time of the HIV outbreak that was blamed, rightly or wrongly, on actor Marc Wallice.

The gentrification of the porn business (much of it, at least), led by such companies as VCA, Vivid, Wicked and Adam & Eve, is barely touched on. Nor is the mainstream crossover phenomenon exemplified by stars like Jenna Jameson and Ron Jeremy — although there’s some fascinating stuff about the Pamela Anderson-Tommy Lee sex tape that may have started the whole thing.

Influential directors like Greg Dark and John Leslie are barely mentioned (the former only in connection with Lords). John Stagliano is given his due, though there’s more about his personal travails than about his revolutionary shooting style. But then, this is a book about life, not art.

Some will be downright appalled by such characters as Snyder, Butchie Peraino and Norm Arno. But they should also be moved by the candor, humanity and humor of Fred Lincoln, Georgina Spelvin, Annie Sprinkle, Henri Pachard and many others.

If one single person emerges as the book’s hero, it is Sharon Mitchell, whose frank and pungent observations about herself and others appear in almost every chapter. Her remarkable odyssey from rebellious New Jersey teenager to swashbuckling sex star to pathetic junkie to redemption angel is unique and inspiring.

The industry itself has gone on a similar trajectory, from innocence through corruption to prosperity and acceptance.

Speaking historically, probably the most important event covered by the book is the Hal Freeman obscenity trial, which wound its way into California’s Supreme Court and ended, essentially, with the legalization of pornography.

Connelly remembers the day in 1988 when the decision came down: “I was making a movie in Sam Kinison’s old house in the Hollywood Hills; Ron Jeremy was directing it. We’d been fucking all day …when we heard that the Freeman conviction was overturned on appeal. It’s kind of ironic; there we were, in the middle of a shoot, when we found out that we could legally shoot. …”

From then on the porn biz would never be the same. The Freeman decision ushered in its sea-change from a semi-underground operation into, in Tom Byron’s words, “the corporate, legitimate machine that it is now.”

The Other Hollywood is one of the very few books that video retailers would be wise to stock. Customers both old and new are sure to want to learn more about how this crazy business grew.

GUNS N' ROSES Catalog To Generate $100 Million For SANCTUARY

gnr.jpg

According an article in the U.K.'s The Times, Sanctuary Music Group said that it expected to generate about £50 million (approx. $94 million) from exploiting GUNS N' ROSES hits through film soundtracks, cover versions and their use in advertisements. Sanctuary announced earlier in the week that it had acquired the publishing rights to GUNS N' ROSES' back catalogue in a deal believed to be worth £10 million (approx. $19 million).

Deke Arlon, Sanctuary's head of publishing, said: "After THE BEATLES and QUEEN, there doesn't come much bigger in the rock canon than GUNS N' ROSES. We spent years trying to find the right deal and we are delighted with acquiring a slice of rock history."

The notoriously unpredictable Axl Rose signed with Sanctuary after months of negotiations through his lawyers. Although rival publishers are believed to have offered more, Rose felt more comfortable with Sanctuary's business plan.

Sanctuary has also secured the rights to "Chinese Democracy", the new GUNS N' ROSES album and all future Rose material. However, the album has no release date 12 years after work began. The effort has cost other labels £6 million (approx. $11 million) and seen off eight producers.

The band's management said it had been booked on Daly's program, but a spokesperson for "Last Call" denied that the appearance was ever confirmed. Michael Jackson Jury to See 'Erotic' Material

jacko.jpg

SANTA MARIA, Calif. (Reuters) - The judge in pop star Michael Jackson's child molestation case ruled on Friday that "erotic" material, including pictures of nude children, seized from the entertainer's Neverland Ranch could be shown to jurors at his upcoming trial.

Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville ruled that "sexually explicit" material police found in a search of Jackson's sprawling estate, including books, magazines and DVDs, could be introduced at the trial.

Jackson's accuser, now aged 15, and his brother will have to testify in open court after the judge rejected a prosecution request to close the courtroom for that portion of the trial. Prosecutors had argued that giving evidence in open court would traumatize the boys.

But in another setback for the defense, Melville ruled that a British television documentary about Jackson could be shown to jurors as evidence.

The documentary, which aired in 2003, shows Jackson holding hands with the then-13-year-old boy whom prosecutors charge was sexually molested by the entertainer after being plied with alcohol.

In seeking to have the seized books, magazines and other material admitted as evidence, prosecutors said they demonstrated Jackson's sexual interest in children.

"Some depict children nude. Some depict adults who appear to be the age of our children (in the case)," said Santa Barbara County Deputy District Attorney Ron Zonen. "All of which, taken together, indicates the defendant's prurient interest in children, particularly boys."

"SEXUALLY EXPLICIT"

Lawyers for the 46-year-old entertainer had asked Melville to exclude the evidence, saying prosecutors had not established that the items belonged to Jackson, since about 70 staff at his sprawling home had access to the areas where they were found.

Jackson's attorneys had also objected to showing jurors the documentary by Martin Bashir, saying it was heavily edited and would be misleading.

The defense won some small successes when the judge instructed prosecutors to refer to the seized material as "adult" or "sexually explicit" but not "pornographic," and rejected material seized from Jackson's home in 1993.

The seized evidence that can be admitted includes 17 books, 32 magazines, two DVDs, four computers and 23 other magazines from 1936 that Jackson's lawyers called collector's items.

Jury selection in the trial in Santa Maria, California, is scheduled to begin next week and could take more than a month to complete.

Melville, who has imposed virtually unprecedented secrecy in the case in what he said was a move to protect Jackson's right to a fair trial, cautioned attorneys for both sides as they squared off at Friday's hearing.

"The world is watching justice in the United States here -- the world. Not Santa Maria, not Santa Barbara County, not California -- the world," he said.

"I expect and know that you will all -- on both sides -- carry the burden of showing the world what a fine system we have. That does not include name calling or personal attacks. I will not abide that. I will not put up with it," the judge said.

She is an AVN, XRCO, and Nightmoves award-winning performer.

“Felicia Fox is the most energetic, down to earth girl I have ever met in the adult industry,” says Arnold Stein, president of Old Pueblo. “She’s an all-natural beauty who tears through life with a no-holds-barred attitude. She is one of these women who no matter what aspect of life we are speaking about will giggle, smile, and give her 110% effort without any part of her holding back. This is where all the excitement from Old Pueblo Distribution begins with.”

Felicia Fox and her partner Tim Case have already begun producing the first installment of their own exclusive, completely unique series, tentatively titled “Felicia’s Foxes: On the Road With Felicia Fox”. Almost 40 weeks out of each year, these two hooligans travel all over the US as part of Felicia’s feature dancing and appearance schedule. They encounter unlimited amounts of potential XXX talent, females that have never graced the screen before, and likely never will again.

Felicia Fox says, “I’ve been quietly shopping around the industry, just talking to people and waiting for the right offer to come along for someone to distribute the kind of wacky, crazy, sex-positive videos I want to produce. When I ran into Arnold again at the AEE, something clicked, and we knew right away that we were right for each other.”

Arnold Stein adds,“The girls Felicia has been able to find will make any L.A.-based producer cream his pants, and the pants hanging in his closet, because nobody has access to the number of beautiful, sexually adventurous women that a dancer of Felicia’s caliber has. Felicia, being who she is, undauntedly brings the promiscuous behavior out of every girl she meets. This leads to the craziest stories I have ever heard in my life which now are going to be the hottest craziest scenes you have ever seen. The Devil's Hand: No, It's NOT 'Hook 'Em Horns'

devilhorns.jpg

Source: CONSPIRACY PLANET

"Devil's hand" (or "cornuti" in Italian) signifies that satan rules. It is a universal hand signal used by politicians, celebrities as well as heavy metal bands, affirming their allegiance to satanic powers and a visual shorthand for "Hail, Satan."

The "devil's hand" is familiar to both Bill Clinton and George Bush as evidenced by the photos with the caption "the satanic torch is passed" on Steamshovel Press ( www.steamshovelpress.com )

Both Laura and George Bush used this hand signal during the 2005 coronation (inauguration)of the US President on January 20.

The mainstream media cartel has vainly tried to explain away this bizarre and occult hand signal by implying that this is the "hook 'em horns" sign used by Texas Longhorn football fans.

Not so. The devil's hand has been observed and photographed around the world, used by George Bush, Bill Clinton, Silvio Berlusconi, Elizabeth Taylor, Prince William, Paul McCartney, Dio, Gene Simmons, Ozzy, Avril Lavigne, Stephen Dorff, Dave Navarro and many others.

They are not Texas football fans by any stretch of any imagination.

Former New York Governor Mario Cuomo was shown making this gesture on the cover of "Secret Societies and Psychological Warfare" by Michael A. Hoffman II (1992)

(See Adrian Frutiger, "Signs and Symbols, Their Designs and Meanings.")

The devil's hand signifies the horned god of witchcraft Pan and is an occult sign of recognition worldwide.

Like the Masonic sign of distress (the reach for the skies hands straight up pose) or masonic handshakes, the devil's hand has been used for centuries.

George Bush may be the one to make it really popular in the USA.

Jamie Foxx's uncannily accurate performance isn't the only good thing about Ray. Riding high on a wave of Oscar buzz, Foxx proved himself worthy of all the hype by portraying blind R&B legend Ray Charles in a warts-and-all performance that Charles approved shortly before his death in June 2004. Despite a few dramatic embellishments of actual incidents (such as the suggestion that the accidental drowning of Charles's younger brother caused all the inner demons that Charles would battle into adulthood), the film does a remarkable job of summarizing Charles's strengths as a musical innovator and his weaknesses as a philandering heroin addict who recorded some of his best songs while flying high as a kite. Foxx seems to be channeling Charles himself, and as he did with the life of Ritchie Valens in La Bamba, director Taylor Hackford gets most of the period details absolutely right as he chronicles Ray's rise from "chitlin circuit" performer in the early '50s to his much-deserved elevation to legendary status as one of the all-time great musicians. Foxx expertly lip-syncs to Ray Charles' classic recordings, but you could swear he's the real deal in a film that honors Ray Charles without sanitizing his once-messy life.

FINALLY An Explanation: Study Finds Most Bone Growth Occurs at Night

woody.jpg

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The perception that we seem to grow taller overnight is likely true, researchers said on Thursday.

Scientists at the University of Wisconsin's School of Veterinary Medicine in Madison placed sensors on the leg bones of lambs to monitor bone growth in the animals. Ninety percent of bone growth occurred when the animals were sleeping or otherwise at rest, according to the study published in the Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics.

"We observed this noncontinuous pattern of growth, but what was really interesting was that the bones were growing only when the animals were lying down, and almost no growth occurs when the lambs are standing or moving around," study author Norman Wilsman said.

He reasoned that growth plates consisting of soft cartilage at the ends of bones become compressed when walking or standing, preventing growth. When lying down, the pressure on the growth plates is off and the bones elongate.

Co-author Kenneth Noonan said: "This is a study that points out that growth is not a continuum. There are growth spurts, which may occur within the daily life of lambs and possibly humans too."

Previous research has shown children grow in spurts that may last just a few days. Children sometimes complain of intense growing pains at night that emanate from the ends of their lower extremities where the growth plates are, Wilsman said. There is no treatment for growing pains.

Debbie Gibson In Next PLAYBOY Issue

deb.jpg
Apparently, Debbie Gibson is trying to revive her electric youth.

The '80s pop phenom, whose hits included "Foolish Beat" and "Into Your Eyes," bares it all in the March issue of Playboy, which hits stands Feb. 11.

The layout reportedly features a "well-defined, yet very sexy, feminine look" for Gibson and marks a departure from her squeaky-queen teen idol image of yore.

Gibson, now 34 and known as Deborah, has turned down offers to pose nude in the past.

"I was born in the wrong era," she told USA Today in 2001. "I'm not comfortable with showing everyone everything. I never say never though. I've said I'd never get a tattoo and I got one."

It seems the Out of the Blue singer has upped her comfort levels in recent years--and Playboy readers will no doubt be looking forward to checking out that tattoo she mentioned.

Coinciding with her body-baring shoot, the singer will release her new, aptly named single, "Naked." She is also at work on a cover of Hall & Oates' "Rich Girl," which will be on her upcoming album.

Her last album, M.Y.O.B. was released in 2001.

Since exiting the glare of the pop spotlight, Gibson has carved a niche for herself on the Broadway stage, appearing in crowd pleasers such as Cabaret and Beauty and the Beast.

She's not the first 1980s pop princess to attempt to leap back into the public eye via Playboy's pages.

Back in 2002, onetime rival Tiffany stripped down for Hugh Hefner's mag, earning the distinction of being "the first teen star to ever do it," in her own words.

The "I Think We're Alone Now" singer actually advised Gibson not to follow in her (bare) footsteps.

"I think it probably wouldn't have the same effect," Tiffany said at the time. "I don't think [Gibson] would do it, frankly...And I don't think she needs to."

Hopefully for Gibson's sake, Tiffany is at least correct about her upcoming spread not having the same effect on the general population--namely little to none.

In addition to hitting the magazine racks next month, Gibson will also be seen in two Broadway on Ice productions in Florida, where she'll perform show tunes with former Olympic skater Brian Boitano.

We're just glad she has a contingency plan in place.

I LOVE RICH Alive / Video Shoot This Sunday

ilrichdrewddoor.jpg

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies....

This Sunday night, Jan 30th, will be a historic night for rock and roll. Not only will I LOVE RICH be playing a scorching set of rock and roll at the Darkroom in Chicago (2210 West Chicago, between Damen and Western to be exact) but we will also be shooting our very first video.

At this show, we will be opening for the band Dummy, who are actually quite rad, and we should be going on around 9:30 or so. There will also be a DJ, Mike Miller (of Delilah's fame). Check out some info here - www.darkroombar.com

It's a Sunday, so we will be going on relatively early, since most of you have to get up to go to work on Monday.

Now for the record, this is going to be kind of a low budget affair (hey, the "Jump" video only cost 200 dollars) but it should be fun, and if you come out and make an ass out of yourself, you just might get to see your silly ass winding up on the heights of JBTV someday.

Also, we're having a loose concept part for the video, involving our "superfans", some aimless old people on the street and, hopefully, our good friend Bubbles the chimp.

Anyone who's free early Sunday afternoon and wants to be involved in this for the reward of ILR swag, Twinkees, a few bottles of PBR, and my never ending love should get in touch with band ASAP.

Love you all.

RICH

Martin Scorsese and De Niro Doing 'Taxi Driver 2'?

taxi.jpg

According to the New York post, both Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro are planning a possible follow-up to the 1976 cult classic Taxi Driver. "I was talking with Martin Scorsese about doing what I guess you’d call a sequel to 'Taxi Driver,' where he is older," De Niro told journalists. In 'Taxi Driver,' a mentally unstable Vietnam war veteran works as nighttime taxi driver in a city whose perceived decadence and sleaze feeds his urge to violently lash out.

KISSWORLD: Official KISS Store Comes Crashing Down?

KISSWORLD.jpg

Less than a year after the announcement was made that KISS would be opening KissWorld, the first official KISS store in Melbourne, Australia, the store appears to be all but a thing of the past, with the tenants allegedly having been evicted by the landlord for failure to pay rent.

"The much-hyped KissWorld has closed before it ever opened, with the tenants being evicted by the landlord for failure to pay the rent, the locks have been changed and an 'Entry Prohibited' sign posted on all entry doors. Plus e-mails to KissWorld management in Melbourne are returned as 'undeliverable'!

"The only sales activity ever seen inside the incomplete shell was an impromptu sale of a mixed bag of merchandise sold on a bare cement floor. A desperate bid to raise cash was made by the tenants by selling excess manufacturers stock of 'Australian Idol' and 'Big Brother' 2005 calendars, plus NRL rugby shorts and cheap teenage makeup kits. Peeking through the dirty glass to inside the building you can still see a few boxes of trash, some lipstick and a rack of unsold rugby shorts gathering dust....plus a smashed phone/fax machine.

"The project was ill-conceived from day one with an inappropriate location chosen well over 25 miles from the Melbourne CBD [central business district] in a new housing estate full of young families with new homes and big mortgages...hardly the type of person to rush out to buy expensive KISS memorabilia. Added to the fact that the store was far too big (think the size of a Toys R Us), with parking for over 60 cars!!

"The KissWorld web site claims that the ongoing problems lie with landlords and structural problems with the building. However, money (or lack of it) is the cause of the collapse of this grand project.

"My photos were taken [this past weekend as well as earlier today, Jan. 25] by myself, and I have spoken to the building's agent who confirmed the building's rent ($20K per month) and that the KissWorld tenant was evicted for failing to pay the rent. After being evicted by one agent for their lack of money, the KissWorld management are going to find it very difficult to get another premises, as in Australia commercial landlords run a central registry and they will be blacklisted for defaulting on rent payments!

"Additionally, I've spoken to two other commercial estate agents I know and they both knew of the fiasco with the KissWorld premises.

"I've been in consumer retailing for over 20 years in a senior management role (and a KISS fan for 30+ years ), and when I heard about which suburb where they were planning to open KissWorld, I said right away that the project would fail.

"It was a disaster waiting to happen..."

"Having been in retail for 20-plus years.... My belief is that they ran out of money to complete the shopfitting of the building, and then they ran out of money to pay the rent. I've seen it happen dozens of times with new retailers starting up....they all underestimate fit-out costs! As mentioned, the store was way too big... you could have sold memorabilia for 50 different bands and still not filled this oversized barn.

"Whilst there was some KISS memorabilia on offer during the rushed sale, most of the stuff was just run-of-the-mill posters, pictures, jigsaws etc. Plus they were flogging 'Lizzie McGuire', 'Australian Idol' and 'Big Brother' T-Shirts, posters etc, and Maybelline-style makeup packs for 8-16 year old girls!

"Hardly what I would call KissWorld!

"You can see from those shots that the building was incomplete inside and they traded off bare cement floors with hung plastic sheeting to hide the unfinished nature of the premises...

"The building is now virtually empty save for a few empty clothing racks, a lipstick display stand and boxes of rubbish.

"Plus hundreds of dead flies in the windows!"

SUBSONIC Video Met With Overwhelming Response

NOSUCHSOUL.jpg

Since the "Dream American" video debuted not even 48 hours ago, it has been viewed 486 times. And a number of other websites have picke dup on the MK scoop from last Sunday night and posted links and provided additional press on it's release. Thus far it has been met with positive feedback and sparked pre production of a follow-up video for "A Day Late" a ballad type number which should be shot in Chicago sometime this spring. Further details are pending.

The "Dream American" video was shot by Second City Alum Paul Baio in one afternoon with longtime friend, Dan Laudo of Prong on drums, and Dietrich Thrall form Marazene on bass. Dietrich has been named the official touring bassist for Subsonic.

Ron Marks the former lead guitarist of Celtic Frost, joined the CF line-up in May of 1987, after the release of "Into the Pandemonium". He became CF's lead guitarist, thus fulfilling a long-planned goal of CF's - to have two guitar players in the band in order to create a fuller sound in live performances. Ron's presence within the band was heavily overshadowed due to the hardships CF was facing at that time. Although Ron was only in the band for a few months, his contributions turned out to be quite emence. He was a key element which influenced and helped change the band's sound. In 1989 he returned to Celtic Frost unofficially to help record "Vanity/Nemesis" in Berlin. Ron's tenure with Celtic Frost at that point would be only the recording of the "Vanity/Nemesis" album.

Tom Gabriel Fischer founder of Celtic Frost and author of the Frost biography "Are you Morbid?" had this to say about Ron:
"What really lifts him (Ron Marks) above any other contender is his extraordinary guitar playing, executed with the feel of someone who has a god-given talent for the instrument...His musical horizons extend and eclipse Martins and my own technical capabilities."

You can view the uncensored version of the video for "Dream American" at www.subsonicrocks.com

The new album from Subsonic, "No Such Soul", is now on sale. You may order it online at www.sonicwaveintl.com/subsonic.html

17,000 fans and 13,000 trade members

Source: Business Wire

ENCINO, Calif--The 2005 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo hosted more than 30,000 trade professionals, exhibitors, fans, press, and stars, organizers of the show announced today. The 2005 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, sponsored by Adult Video News and produced by Home Entertainment Events, took place January 6-9, 2005 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to preliminary attendance figures, more than 17,000 fans and 13,000 trade members and industry professionals attended the 2005 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo. Attendance figures for the 2005 Expo were up in all categories in comparison to attendance in 2004.

"The AVN Adult Entertainment Expo is--for industry insiders and fans alike--the premier event for the industry," said spokesperson Carrie Dieterich. "Trade attendance was particularly strong due to the trade-only first day. It is remarkable that the fan figures for this year's event exceeded those of last year even though the Expo was not open to the public during the first day, as it was in years past."

Attendance was not the only area of growth for the 2005 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo. Overall exhibit sales broke the 300-company mark, a significant increase over the 252 exhibitors that participated at the 2004 Expo. Exhibit space at the industry-only B2B Marketplace was sold out weeks prior to the start of the Expo and the first-ever show-within-a-show GayVN Expo was met with favorable reactions from participating companies.

"The adult entertainment industry is undoubtedly driven by its devoted fans," said Paul Fishbein, President of Adult Video News. "But the widening scope of the industry has injected new enthusiasm from entrepreneurs looking to capitalize on rising demand for adult products. This new entrepreneurial energy will foster competition and raise the standards of quality for adult entertainment in what will be a successful and prosperous New Year for the industry."

The AVN Adult Entertainment Expo is a unique tradeshow experience. The largest event of its kind, the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo showcases the most comprehensive collection of adult talent, exhibitors, and product, which attracts buyers and fans from around the world. Exhibitors this year included Adam & Eve Productions, Anabolic Video Productions, Inc., Digital Playground, Inc., Evil Angel Video Productions, Exquisite Multimedia, Hustler Video, Jill Kelly Productions, JM Productions, Legend Video, Metro Interactive LLC, New Sensations, Pleasure Productions, Pure Play, Sin City, Smash Pictures, Vivid Entertainment Group, West Coast Productions, Wildlife Video, and Wicked Pictures. For a complete list of exhibitors and events during the Expo, please refer to http://www.adult-expo.com.

Also held in conjunction with the event was the GayVN Expo, a designated portion of the show floor devoted to this thriving segment of the adult industry. Cybersocket, Unzipped Video, TLA Releasing, and Channel 1 Releasing sponsor the GayVN Expo. Additional information can be found at http://www.gayvnexpo.com.

The AVN Adult Entertainment Expo set the stage for the 22nd annual AVN Awards, which took place on Saturday, January 8. The sold-out event was the most desired ticket in Las Vegas, with Vivid Entertainment Group's "The Masseuse" capturing the award for best film and the Vivid/Club Jenna co-production "Bella Loves Jenna" receiving Best Video Feature honors. Awards in dozens of other categories were also presented. A complete list of winners can be found at avn.com.

The 2006 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo is scheduled for January 5-8, 2006. The 2006 AVN Awards will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2006.

HEY NEWBOMB!: NASHVILLE PUSSY Sign With SPITFIRE RECORDS

NP.jpg
NASHVILLE PUSSY have inked a North American deal with Spitfire Records.

Taking their name from the intro to the "Double Live Gonzo" version of TED NUGENT's "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang", the band's current lineup features Kentucky-born singer/guitarist Blaine Cartwright (formerly of 9 POUND HAMMER), lead guitarist and Vancouver B.C. transplant Ruyter Suys (pronounced "Rider Sighs"), drummer Jeremy Thompson (a.k.a. "Remo"), and new addition Karen Cuda on bass and supporting vocals hailing from Denver Colorado.

Since founding the band in 1996 — the husband-and-wife guitar team of Cartwright and Suys pursued their vision until it became reality. "We were sick of seeing bands that sucked, so we decided to make the kind of band that we wanted to see," says Suys. Straight off the blocks — NASHVILLE PUSSY was positively infamous for their ferocious, take-no-prisoners live shows — and immediately the most talked about band in the country. NASHVILLE PUSSY was soon the object of a heated bidding war between the majors and band's debut, "Let Them Eat Pussy", earned them a Grammy nomination and slot on a MARILYN MANSON tour.

Blaine Cartwright says about the new CD, "It's like the return of NASHVILLE PUSSY. We put some of the sleaze and glam back in, only better. It's a good-time rock & roll record. We've always been in that situation where we had to keep everything going, touring, rehearsals, and writing. This time we've taken the time and reloaded. I want to get back to kicking ass in America, 'cause America needs its ass kicked."

Johnny Carson Dies at 79

carson.jpg

Source: Associated press

LOS ANGELES - Johnny Carson (news), the "Tonight Show" host who served America a smooth nightcap of celebrity banter, droll comedy and heartland charm for 30 years, died Sunday. He was 79. NBC said Carson died of emphysema at his Malibu home.

"Mr. Carson passed away peacefully early Sunday morning," his nephew, Jeff Sotzing, told The Associated Press. "He was surrounded by his family, whose loss will be immeasurable."

The boyish-looking Nebraska native with the disarming grin, who survived every attempt to topple him from his late-night talk show throne, was a star who managed never to distance himself from his audience.

His wealth, the adoration of his guests — particularly the many young comics whose careers he launched — the wry tales of multiple divorces: Carson's air of modesty made it all serve to enhance his bedtime intimacy with viewers.

"Heeeeere's Johnny!" was the booming announcement from sidekick Ed McMahon that ushered Carson out to the stage. Then the formula: the topical monologue, the guests, the broadly played skits such as "Carnac the Magnificent."

But America never tired of him; Carson went out on top when he retired in May 1992.

McMahon said Sunday that Carson was "like a brother to me."

"Our 34 years of working together, plus the 12 years since then, created a friendship which was professional, family-like and one of respect and great admiration," McMahon said in a statement. "When we ended our run on 'The Tonight Show' and my professional life continued, whenever a big career decision needed to be made, I always got the OK from 'the boss.'"

Carson's personal life could not match the perfection of his career. Carson was married four times, divorced three. In 1991, one of his three sons, 39-year-old Ricky, was killed in a car accident.

Nearly all of Carson's professional life was spent in television, from his postwar start at Nebraska stations in the late 1940s to his three decades with NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson."

Carson choose to let "Tonight" stand as his career zenith and his finale, withdrawing into a quiet retirement that suited his private nature and refusing involvement in other show business projects.

In 1993, he explained his absence from the limelight.

"I have an ego like anybody else," Carson told The Washington Post, "but I don't need to be stoked by going before the public all the time."

Carson spent his retirement years sailing, traveling and socializing with a few close friends including media mogul Barry Diller and NBC executive Bob Wright. He simply refused to be wooed back on stage.

"I just let the work speak for itself," he told Esquire magazine in 2002.

Carson did find an outlet for his creativity: He wrote short humor pieces for The New Yorker magazine, including "Recently Discovered Childhood Letters to Santa," which purported to give the youthful wish lists of William Buckley, Don Rickles and others.

Carson made his debut as "Tonight" host in October 1962 and quickly won over audiences. He even made headlines with such clever ploys as the 1969 on-show marriage of eccentric singer Tiny Tim to Miss Vicki, which won the show its biggest-ever ratings.

The wedding and other noteworthy moments from the show were collected into a yearly "Tonight" anniversary special.

In 1972, "Tonight" moved from New York to Burbank. Growing respect for Carson's consistency and staying power, along with four consecutive Emmy Awards, came his way in the late 1970s.

His quickness and his ability to handle an audience were impressive. When his jokes missed their target, the smooth Carson won over a groaning studio audience with a clever look or sly, self-deprecating remark.

Politics provided monologue fodder for him as he skewered lawmakers of every stripe, mirroring the mood of voters. His Watergate jabs at President Nixon were seen as cementing Nixon's fall from office in 1974.

He made presidential history again in July 1988 when he had then-Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton on his show a few days after Clinton came under widespread ridicule for a boring speech at the Democratic National Convention. Clinton traded quips with Carson and played "Summertime" on the saxophone in what was hailed as a stunning comeback.

Competing networks tried a variety of formats and hosts to challenge Carson, but never managed to best "Tonight."

There was the occasional battle with NBC: In 1967, for instance, Carson walked out for several weeks until the network managed to lure him back with a contract that reportedly gave him $1 million-plus yearly.

In 1980, after more walkout threats, the show was scaled back from 90 minutes to an hour. Carson also eased his schedule by cutting back on his work days; a number of substitute hosts filled in, including Joan Rivers, Jerry Lewis and Jay Leno, Carson's eventual successor.

Rivers was one of the countless comedians whose careers took off after they were on Carson's show. After she rocked the audience with her jokes in that 1965 appearance, he remarked, "God, you're funny. You're going to be a star."

"If Johnny hadn't made the choice to put me on his show, I might still be in Greenwich Village as the oldest living undiscovered female comic," she recalled in an Associated Press interview 20 years later. She tried her own talk show in 1986, quickly becoming one of the many challengers who could not budge Carson.

In the '80s, Carson was reportedly the highest-paid performer in television history with a $5 million "Tonight" show salary alone. His Carson Productions created and sold pilots to NBC, including "TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes." Carson himself made occasional cameo appearances on other TV series.

He also performed in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, N.J., and was host of the Academy Awards five times in the '70s and '80s.

Carson's graceful exit from "Tonight" did not avoid a messy, bitter tug-of-war between Leno and fellow comedian David Letterman to take over his throne. Leno took over on May 25, 1992, becoming the fourth man to hold the job after Steve Allen, Jack Paar and Carson. Letterman landed on rival CBS.

Born in Corning, Iowa, and raised in nearby Norfolk, Neb., Carson started his show business career at age 14 as the magician "The Great Carsoni."

After World War II service in the Navy, he took a series of jobs in local radio and TV in Nebraska before starting at KNXT-TV in Los Angeles in 1950.

There he started a sketch comedy show, "Carson's Cellar," which ran from 1951-53 and attracted attention from Hollywood. A staff writing job for "The Red Skelton Show" followed.

The program provided Carson with a lucky break: When Skelton was injured backstage, Carson took the comedian's place in front of the cameras.

Producers tried to find the right program for the up-and-coming comic, trying him out as host of the quiz show "Earn Your Vacation" (1954), the variety show "The Johnny Carson Show" (1955-56), the game show "Who Do You Trust?" (1957-62).

A few acting roles came Carson's way, including one on "Playhouse 90" in 1957, and he did a pilot in 1960 for a prime-time series, "Johnny Come Lately," that never made it onto a network schedule.

In 1958, Carson sat in for "Tonight Show" host Paar. When Paar left the show four years later, Carson was NBC's choice as his replacement.

After his retirement, Carson took on the role of Malibu-based retiree with apparent ease. An avid tennis fan, he was still playing a vigorous game in his 70s.

He and his wife, Alexis, traveled frequently. The pair met on the Malibu beach in the early 1980s; he was 61 when they married in June 1987, she was in her 30s.

Carson's first wife was his childhood sweetheart, Jody, the mother of his three sons. They married in 1949 and split in 1963. He married Joanne Copeland Carson that same year, but divorced nine years later. His third marriage, to Joanna Holland Carson, took place in 1972. They divorced in 1985.

On the occasion of Carson's 70th birthday, former "Tonight" bandleader Doc Severinsen, who toured with musicians from the show, said he was constantly reminded of Carson's enduring popularity.

"Every place we go people ask `How is he? Where is he? What is he doing? Tell him how much we miss him.' It doesn't surprise me," Severinsen said.

Carson won a Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, in 1992, with the first President Bush (news - web sites) saying, "With decency and style he's made America laugh and think." In 1993, he was celebrated by the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors for career achievement.

His nephew said there will be no memorial service.

ghost rider.jpg

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

"American Beauty" & "The Four Feathers" star Wes Bentley will play the villain Blackheart in the live-action adaptation of comic "Ghost Rider," alongside Nicolas Cage and Director Mark Steven Johnson reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The Marvel property follows a former motorcycle stuntman who agrees to let his body become host to a vengeful spirit, Ghost Rider, a bike-riding demon, to secure the safety of his true love. Blackheart is the son of the arch-demon Mephisto and plans to displace his father to create a new hell even more terrible than the old one.

Bentley is a friend of Colin Farrell, who played villain Bullseye in "Daredevil" which Johnson directed. Farrell put the two together as Bentley's character has the same over the top bad guy appeal. Shooting begins next month in Australia.

Summary: A motorcycle stuntman makes a deal with the devil in order to save his mentor from cancer. His end of the bargain is a little more than he expected, however, and he is possessed by a demon. Every night, he transforms into the Ghost Rider, a humanoid form with a flaming skull for a head, and goes out to wreak vengeance on the guilty.

HEY JSIN ! : Lois Back In Smallville

lois1.jpg

Erica Durance, who plays a young Lois Lane on The WB's Smallville, told SCI FI Wire that the spunky college student returns in the upcoming episode "Pariah," which airs Feb. 2. "I'll probably end up being in about 13 [episodes] this year," Durance said in an interview at a party to celebrate 50 years of Warner Brothers television in Burbank, Calif., on Jan. 20. "That's what I'm thinking, or they're thinking for me, let's put it that way."

Durance added, "They find different kinds of interesting ways to weave me back in. Like in episode eight, where I came back for the birthday party, and then I kind of got involved in some stuff. And, you know, kind of other different things. Maybe some stuff with college happens, they kind of see me. And again, they're not giving me a whole lot of clues, but I believe that they're maybe bringing in more of my family ... to kind of flesh out my character a little bit more, so that's going to be really great."

One thing she doubts viewers will see is a budding romance between Tom Welling's Clark Kent and her Lois. "Well, you know what? Again, they pop all sorts of things on me. So I don't really know. I know that it's always a nice thing to kind of have that as an underlay. But as far as what they're actually going to let happen, it's always more interesting when there's a little bit of that banter always going on, and not the kind of actual 'OK, now we're together' or something. … It's got to be more of a natural process."

Though she doesn't know if producers plan on bringing Lois back for a fifth season, the Vancouver, B.C., actress said she's thankful to have won the role in the first place. "It's been wonderful," she said. "It's been a gift, and I'm very grateful for it. It's been a very fast ride, and here I find myself at this 50th anniversary [party], and it's lovely to see all the people that are here, and just having a really great time."

Durance said she was a fan of Lois Lane long before getting the role. "I always watched Lois and Clark before, with Teri Hatcher [as Lois], so I was fan of it," she said. "So I had probably that kind of buried in my mind. And, of course, Margot Kidder. ... You find a fine balance between that and also trying to bring your own kind of sense to a character." Smallville airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

TRENT REZNOR On New NAILS Lineup

ninlogo.jpg

Trent Reznor has confirmed NIN's new touring lineup as the following:

Aaron North (ex-THE ICARUS LINE) – Guitar
Jerome Dillon – Drums
Jeordie White (A PERFECT CIRCLE, ex-MARILYN MANSON) – Bass
Alessandro Cortini - Keyboards

Commented Trent, "I am very excited about this and we fucking sound great. I've been saying I've wanted this incarnation of the band to be a departure and now it truly is.

"Alessandro fit in immediately, but we looked all over for the right guitarist. In retrospect, I believe we were looking for someone to fill Robin's [Finck] shoes. When Aaron walked through the door, he pissed on Robin's shoes and kicked them out the door where they belong — effectively closing a chapter. A great chapter, but one that is in the past. This is a new entity that feels very fresh and vital.

"We are preparing to destroy you."

Asked by a fan in the "Access" section of the group's web site how he thinks having the new bandmembers will change the sound of the older songs when performed live in concert, Trent said, "The band is capable of a lot and I trust and respect everyone's musical ability. We are reworking a number of older tracks that still matter to us, while focusing on the new material."

NINE INCH NAILS' new album, "With Teeth", is scheduled for release in the U.S on May 3 (one day earlier internationally). The CD will contain 12 tracks, and is said to be "more song-orientated" than 1999's "The Fragile". The album was recorded in part at Sound City Studio in Van Nuys, Ca., and features a guest appearance on drums by former NIRVANA drummer/current FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl. Mixing duties were handled by Alan Moulder (THE CURE, SMASHING PUMPKINS).

MÖTLEY CRÜE Banned From NBC

vince.jpg

NBC4.tv is reporting that MÖTLEY CRÜE will not appear on NBC again because of singer Vince Neil's use of an obscenity when wishing bandmate Tommy Lee a happy new year in the midst of performing "Girls, Girls Girls" on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", Jeff Zucker, president of the NBC Universal Television Group told a meeting of the Television Critics Association Friday (Jan. 21).

The profanity, broadcast live after midnight in the Eastern time zone, was removed when the taped show was replayed in the Pacific and Mountain time zones.

The next New Year's Eve edition of "The Tonight Show" will be shown on a five-second delay because of Neil's slip-up, Zucker said.

The Federal Communications Commission received complaints about the New Year's Eve "Tonight" show and subsequently began a preliminary probe. But it's likely little will come of it.

Audio samples from MÖTLEY CRÜE's upcoming two-CD "greatest hits" collection, "Red, White & Crüe", have been posted online at MSN.com. Included on the album are three brand-new CRÜE songs (the new single "If I Die Tomorrow", "Sick Love Song", and a cover of the ROLLING STONES' "Street Fighting Man"), recorded by the group's original lineup (except "Street Fighting Man", which features A PERFECT CIRCLE drummer Josh Freese).

"Red, White & Crüe" is scheduled for release on February 1 via the Hippo/Motley/UTV imprint.

Rob Black Obscenity Case Dismissed

rob black.jpg

Source: www.avn.com

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - In a development that surprised even himself, obscenity charges against producer Rob Black of Extreme Associates have been thrown out of court by a federal judge in Pittsburgh.

“I’m still speechless,” Black told AVN.com. “All ten counts against us were dismissed.” He said that Judge Lancaster had also ruled that obscenity laws are unconstitutional.

“I now have made fucking history,” said the jubilant Black.

“It makes everything perfect,” he added. “The business has been going great and all of a sudden my lawyer calls up and said I won.”

Black’s lawyer, Lou Sirkin, was not immediately available for comment.

Black said he’d been told that federal prosecutor Mary Beth Buchanan told a wire service reporter that she was disappointed and that she felt the government had a slam dunk case and that any jury would have convicted.

“This is the greatest news I’ve ever had,” Black said.

FCC Chairman Michael Powell Stepping Down

SENOEVILS.jpg

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael K. Powell, who opposed tight regulation of telecommunications but backed unprecedented fines against broadcast indecency, announced Friday he is resigning.

Powell, who has held the job for four years, said in a statement that he informed President Bushthat he would depart in March.

Powell, the son of Secretary of State Colin Powell, who also is leaving the Bush administration, said he had completed a "bold and aggressive agenda" and looked forward to spending more time with his wife and two sons.

"Chairman Powell has been a valued member of the administration," White House spokeswoman Erin Healy said. "He has shown a strong commitment to expand the reach of new communications technologies and services and has helped advance the president's goal that all Americans should have access to affordable broadband by 2007."

There was no immediate word on a successor.

Powell cited the growing popularity of cell phones, digital television, and digital music players as evidence of the technological advances during his tenure.

"Evidence of our success can be seen increasingly in the offices, the automobiles and the living rooms of the American consumer," Powell said. "The seeds of our policies are taking firm root in the marketplace and are starting to blossom."

Jonathan Cody, a friend and FCC adviser to Powell on media ownership, said Powell assessed his tenure at the FCC during the holidays and felt that he had accomplished his goals.

Powell, a champion of deregulation who critics had said was too pro-big business, rose from commissioner to chairman when Bush took office in 2001. His term was to run until 2007.

While tackling complex issue ranging from telephone competition to rules for media ownership, Powell is perhaps best known for overseeing a dramatic crackdown on broadcast indecency that began before the infamous "wardrobe malfunction" during singer Janet Jackson's Super Bowl halftime performance last February.

The FCC received more than 1 million indecency complaints in 2004, most of them involving Jackson. CBS is contesting a proposed FCC fine of $550,000 for the incident.

Fines for indecent programming exceeded $7.7 million last year, a huge increase from the $48,000 imposed the year before Powell became chairman. Powell has praised the record fines, saying the commission was "wielding our sword" to protect children and viewers who object to racy programming.

"It's the most uncomfortable area you'd ever want to work in, enforcement," Powell said of indecency fines at a July 2004 symposium. "I'm a big believer in the First Amendment, but often I'm incredibly uneasy about lines we have to draw. No one takes pleasure in trying to decide whether this potty-mouth word or that potty-mouth word is a violation of the law."

No show produced more FCC fines than that of raunchy radio personality Howard Stern, who last October confronted Powell in a surprise phone call while the FCC chairman was a guest on KGO-AM radio in San Francisco.

Stern accused Powell of using the FCC to stifle free speech on radio and TV and contended Powell got the job because of his family name. Powell responded, "I think it's a cheap shot to say just because my father is famous, I don't belong in my position."

Powell also told Stern, "I don't think that, you know, we have made any particular crusade of the Howard Stern show or you."

Powell led the Republican-dominated FCC in easing decades-old rules governing ownership of newspapers and television and radio stations. The commission approved changes in 2003 that allow individual companies to own TV stations reaching nearly half the nation's viewers and combinations of newspapers and broadcast outlets in the same community.

Major media companies said the changes were needed because the old regulations hindered their ability to grow and compete in a market altered by cable television, satellite broadcasting and the Internet.

But lawmakers from both parties and a broad range of groups criticized the changes, saying the FCC regulations give large media companies too much control over what people see, hear and read.

Congress and the courts are considering several efforts to modify or repeal the rules.

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said Powell "instinctively sided with industry," but praised him for fighting to allow consumers to keep their cell phone numbers when they switch carriers.

"This is an important achievement and is one that will lead to increased competition and better service for all cell phone users," Schumer said.

An aide to Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, said Stevens has recommended to Bush that a former Stevens adviser, Washington attorney Earl Comstock, be nominated for the spot on the commission once Powell steps down.

But Stevens' office said there have been no discussions with the White House as to who should assume the chairmanship.

Batman" DVDs Get Big Re-Edits

BATMAN.jpg

Batman on Film recently got contacted by a source who has some more info on the upcoming special edition DVDs of the first four "Batman" films. Amongst the facts gleaned:

- The first two films are finished. Tim Burton re-recorded his commentary tracks with a "guest." Disc One of both will include remastered pictures and sound with commentary. Disc 2 has trailers, TV Spots, vintage footage and a new featurette on the film. The first film also gets a feature length documentary.

- Joel recorded commentary tracks for the theatrical edition of "Batman Forever" along with "Batman & Robin". Afterwards Joel decided to ask WB to recut "Forever" back to something that resembles his original edit. WB agreed and gave him a budget to do so. Joel is currently in Burbank working on some alterations to the film.

- It's expected the original version will be there with the new cut to be done with 'seamless branching' technology. The extended cut is expected to run around 2 hrs 35 mins. Schumacher is going to add as much footage as possible back in. Also some of the effects were not finished in the early workprint and they need to be finished and he has been given a small budget to work with for that, all new effects will be digital.

Current title is going to be '10th Anniversary Extended Director's Cut'.

Paris Hilton Stole DVD Says DA

paris.jpg

--NY Daily News/Celebrity Justice

In a photo that made world news, Paris Hilton is shown looking at a copy of her sex DVD. BUT according to what's being reported now, Hilton faces criminal charges for allegedly stealing it.

Los Angeles- Camera-loving Paris Hilton could find herself posing for a mug shot. The district attorney's office in Beverly Hills is weighing whether to bring vandalism and petty-theft charges against the hotel heiress.

Hilton could face a year and a half in jail plus fines of $1,000 for each criminal count because of a hissy fit the "Simple Life" star allegedly threw last month at a Sunset Blvd. bodega that was selling her infamous sex tape, "One Night in Paris."

Store worker Gerry Castro says things started out friendly.

"We took a picture together, but as soon as she saw that we were selling her videos and we had her on display, she was livid," says Castro. "She was using profanity to the ultimate. She points to the poster and says, 'What the [bleep], look at what the [bleep] they're doing to me here. Don't you know my young fans come here all the time?'"

Hilton allegedly ripped down a poster of herself, reached over the counter to grab a DVD and stormed out of the store without paying for it.

Surveillance video showing the incident will be featured exclusively on celebrityjustice.com.

Castro has since filed a complaint with Beverly Hills police.

According to some reports, Hilton actually gets a cut of the porn tape's sales - which would mean she was stealing from herself.

Hilton's rep had no immediate comment.

Celebrity Justice posts: "Celebrity Justice" has exclusively obtained surveillance video showing Paris Hilton's alleged hissy fit at a West Hollywood newsstand. Now, the Los Angeles County sheriff wants Paris prosecuted for what the tape shows.

Gerry Castro, an employee at the Swing News newsstand, was there when Paris stopped by in mid-December. Castro told us that Paris went ballistic when she spotted her infamous X-rated video on sale there. "We took a picture together," Castro recalled. "But as soon as she saw that we were selling her videos and we had her on display she was livid. She was using profanity to the ultimate."

Castro continued, "She points to the poster and says 'Look at what the **** they're doing to me here. Don't you know my young fans come here all the time?'"

The surveillance video seems to back up Castro's story that Paris tried to rip up a poster. The video shows that when Paris goes to pay for several magazines, she can be seen reaching over the counter and grabbing what appears to be a DVD, which Castro told us was her "One Night in Paris" video.

According to Castro, "She threw her eighty cents change at me and took the video and said, 'I'm taking this and I'm not buying it.'"

Sources have told "CJ" that the LA County sheriff's department will refer the case to the Beverly Hills district attorney's office this week, and recommend that the pretty heiress be charged with petty theft and vandalism.

Hollywood criminal defense attorney Steve Cron told us that, ultimately, the DA's office will decide whether or not to file charges, but that if they do, the punishment could be tough, even though the potential charges are just misdemeanors. "Petty theft has a maximum sentence of six months in jail," Cron observed. "Vandalism has a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a one thousand dollar fine."

But Cron speculated that Paris wouldn't be likely to be living "The Simple Life" behind bars. "They might bring her in with her lawyer and say 'If you're good for the next year we're going to let this go. On the other hand, if there's any problems from you we're going to bring up this case as well as any new cases that come up during this time period.'"

SCUM OF THE EARTH's 'Get Your Dead On'Video To Air

scumm.jpg

After removal of some objectionable content, MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball" has agreed to air SCUM OF THE EARTH's video for "Get Your Dead On". The episode will air Saturday, January 22 at 10:00 p.m. and will repeat Monday, January 24 at 4:00 a.m.

The "Get Your Dead On" clip was directed by Rob Prior ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and was based on his upcoming film "Shadow Walker", currently in pre-production. The unique horror film's main character is the basis for the video, which, in an unprecedented move, will introduce the mythology of the Shadow Walker villain before its appearance in a film, comic book, or video game (each is scheduled for release next year). Prior conceived the Shadow Walker, a violent creature from New Zealand folklore that moves only within darkness, with groundbreaking comic book writer Paul Jenkins ("Origin: The True Story of Wolverine", "Spider-Man: Return of the Goblin", "The Incredible Hulk", "Darkness: Resurrection"). Prior, a renowned master of photorealistic comic book art (he crafted the creatures for the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel"), designed the Shadowalker.

"Get Your Dead On" comes off SCUM OF THE EARTH's debut album, "Blah…Blah…Blah…Love Songs for the New Millennium", available now via Eclipse Records. Former ROB ZOMBIE guitarist Riggs recorded "Blah…" with an all-star cast of friends including drummer John Tempesta (WHITE ZOMBIE, ROB ZOMBIE) and his brother Mike Tempesta (guitar, POWERMAN 5000) — marking the first time the brothers have played together on record — SYSTEM OF A DOWN drummer John Dolmayan, as well as Clay Others (bass) and more. On tour, Riggs will be flanked by ADEMA guitarist Ransom, POWERMAN 5000 drummer Adrian Ost and others.

It's going to have a lot of footage of our show, of course, but we're also going to have a loose concept running through it all too, so get a hold of us if you want to be a part of it. It's going to be fun, and we were told the budget for our video would be equal to the budget of the Van Halen "Jump" video, so you know it can only turn out well.

It should also be noted that a few lucky ladies this night will be brought back to my house to work on a new video series I'm working on, but that's another topic...

'THE YEAR OF THE RICH' is at the press right now, and it will be in stores in early March, and probably available at our shows sooner than that. So it's going to be in your hands soon, I can smell your anticipation all the way over here...

That's about it for now, more on the Darkroom show / video next week.

MORTIIS TO GET MARRIRED / SINGLE DVD RELEASE

mcmortiis.jpg

FREDRIKSTAD, NORWAY - Now recovered from their exhausting nine week European tour, which came to an end in November, Mortiis begin 2005 by once again throwing themselves into another busy schedule. A schedule that will see the release of a new single, a live DVD, the filming of a new video and live shows all in the first half of the year. A hectic time that will also have the man himself trying to fit in a marriage and honeymoon in between. Yes!! you heard it right, the reclusive one is to take a bride.

Mortiis have returned to Silvertone Studios in Fredrikstad, Norway to work on a new single -'Decadent & Desperate' - which is scheduled for a UK release in April. The single is expected to be released in various formats and will include a new, as yet un-named song, plus further re-mixed tracks from their latest album. The release follows last years debut single 'The Grudge' which saw the band make their first ever entry in the 'Official UK Singles Chart'.

A video for 'Decadent & Desperate' will be released prior to the single. Work is due to commence shortly in the UK and the band are rumoured to be working with film and video director Adam Mason (Million Dead, The Dawn Parade). Commenting on the upcoming video Mortiis said "I'm looking forward to making this new video. It's something which I expect to be dark and disturbing, something to go with the feel of the single."

Judge Says Stan Lee Entitled to Profits

stan.jpg

Source: Associated Press

According to the Associated Press, a judge in Manhattan federal court has ruled that Stan Lee, chairman emeritus at Marvel, is entitled to 10 percent of the profits from movie and television productions involving Marvel characters, as well as movie-related toys manufactured and sold by the company itself.

It also determined that a claim to share profits from Marvel's ventures with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Universal Studios to produce Spider-Man and Incredible Hulk merchandise will have to be resolved by jury verdict.

"This is pretty much a sweeping victory for us," said Lee's attorney Howard Graff of the firm Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky of New York.

Marvel says that it will appeal the ruling and continue to contest the claims on which the court did not rule.

Poe Gravesite Mystery Visitor

POE.jpg

Source: Associated Press

BALTIMORE - The mystery man was dressed for the cold rather than tradition, and some spectators were not quite as respectful as in years past. But for the 56th year, a man stole into a locked graveyard early on Edgar Allan Poe's birthday and placed three roses and a half-empty bottle of cognac on the writer's grave.

Jeff Jerome, curator of the Poe House and Museum, who has seen the mysterious visitor every Jan. 19 since 1976, gathered with about 20 people Tuesday night to glimpse the ritual.

"It was absolutely frigid," Jerome said of the sub-20 degree temperature.

No one, not even Jerome, knows the identity of the so-called "Poe Toaster." The visit was first documented in 1949, a century after Poe's death.

This year, the visitor arrived at 1:10 a.m. in a heavy coat and obscured his face with a black pullover, Jerome said. He was not wearing the traditional white scarf and black hat.

"He put the roses and cognac at the base of Poe's grave and put his hand on top of the (tomb) stone. He paused and put his head down," the museum curator said. He left after about five minutes, Jerome said.

The visitor's three roses are believed to honor Poe, his mother-in-law and his wife, all of whom are buried in the graveyard. The significance of the cognac is unknown.

People who stand vigil usually respect the visitor's desire for anonymity, which, along with the visitor's quick moves and the cover of darkness, have kept his secret well.

But this time, some spectators "created a nuisance," Jerome said. Some entered the locked cemetery; others confronted Jerome after the stranger had departed and demanded that he reveal his identity.

For decades, a frail figure made the visit to Poe's grave. But in 1993 the original visitor left a cryptic note saying, "The torch will be passed." A later note said the man, who apparently died in 1998, had passed the tradition on to his sons.

Poe, who wrote poems and horror stories such as "The Raven" and "The Telltale Heart," died Oct. 7, 1849 in Baltimore at the age of 40 after collapsing in a tavern.

Bethany Dinger, 32, first became fascinated with the writer while doing volunteer work at the Poe House in high school. Wednesday was her third time watching the ritual.

"It's always amazing — you know it's going to happen and then it's just wow, he's here," she said. "We're just so in the moment — there's no talking" while the visitor pays homage.

FILTER Line-Up Shake Up

rich patrick.jpg

www.officialfilter.com

FILTER mainman Richard Patrick has commented on the reports that former FILTER members Geno Lenardo (guitar) and Frank Cavanagh (bass) have launched a new band with ex-ADEMA singer Marky Chavez. Writing to the Filter Discussion Group, Patrick said, "I've heard conflicting reports about this project, and whether or not it's true, I wish them all the best! We've had a lot of good times together and I hope they continue to make great music. As for FILTER, you'll be stunned at the new lineup!"

Chavez, who left ADEMA late last year, recently stated about the as-yet-unnamed new group, " I can't wait to let the world hear this new music. It's the best stuff I have ever been a part of.

"The band is located out of Chicago and we are taking meeting with labels and management! We should have a record coming out toward the latter part of this New Year!

"I really would like to thank all the ADEMA fans that have not forgotten about me, and they won't be disappointed with this new band and record.

"All things happen for a reason, and I am proud of what I did with ADEMA, but this new project is what I have wanted to do for a long time!"

GENE SIMMONS SUIT.jpg
as reported by Blabbermouth

The following is an unconfirmed report from www.blabbermouth.net
and is their take on a posting at Gene Simmons official website www.genesimmons.com.

KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons is "reportedly suing" a film production company that recently released a DVD version of a 1980 Hong Kong kung fu movie featuring a villain whose makeup closely resembles that of his KISS character "The Demon".

Asked by a fan via his web site if there are any plans for KISS to sue over the movie, entitled "Bat Without Wings", Simmons responded, "Wait and see."

ACHERON Sheds Satanic Links? / New CD In Works

ACHERON.jpg

Columbus, Ohio-based black/death metal cult band ACHERON have posted the following message on their web site:

"Let it been know that ACHERON is not a Church of Satan-linked band anymore. Vincent Crowley, who formerly was a Magister/Priest for their organization, resigned back in 2000. ACHERON in no way indorses any type of organized religious groups. The band stands for the dark side of life and resonates to a Predator-like kinship with nature. If anything, the modern-day ACHERON is a horde of heathens, spreading their unholy music to the hellions of mankind. Fuck ALL religions! They are the roots to all our problems. The Archetype of Satan = The Self… Heathen = Our True Self. We are the Devils of this world!

"Heathen – One regarded as irreligious, uncivilized, or unenlightened!

"ACHERON has been working to get their new music down solid for their next full-length album 'Sanctum Regnum: The Predator Manifesto', which will hopefully be recorded sometime in 2005. It will be a very apocalyptic concept album. Some of the song titles are 'Godless (We Are Gods)', 'The Apocalypse', 'Might Is Right', 'Rise Of Rebellion', 'I Am Heathen', 'Millennium’s End', 'The New Age' and 'Anno Armageddon'. The band has not signed a contract with any label yet, so more details about this upcoming album will be given in the future.

"The band is also putting together an upcoming DVD which will be called 'Acheron - 17 Years Of Pure Hell', documenting the band's 17-year history within the underground scene. The DVD plans to feature commentary from band's founder Vincent Crowley, along with live performances and interviews with members and ex-members, fans and supporters of the band. Work on this project will start in early February. No tentative release date.

More"Ghost Rider" Talk

grider.jpg

Source: Superhero Hype by Garth Franklin

"Ghost Rider" writer/director Mark Steven Johnson has left a pretty cool update on the Superhero Hype! message boards about how the film is progressing:

"We start shooting in about four weeks so you can imagine how busy things are. Casting - Mr. Cage will be Johnny Blaze. Take it from me. That's a done deal. And I could not be happier. Nic is in the shape of his life. Lean and mean, like a motorcycle stunt rider should. I've cast a few more parts but I should wait until the official announcements come (very soon). But safe to say, when in doubt?

The Budget. Nice to see that we've been "upgraded" from a $40 million dollar movie to a $51 million dollar movie! Maybe that's enough for a Dazzler movie but not for a Ghost Rider movie! Seriously, this is an event movie. And Sony knows how to make them right. Rest assured. That is not the budget. Not by a long shot.

Johnny vs. Danny. The great thing about making a Ghost Rider movie is that I get to take the best from both the Johnny Blaze and the Danny Ketch versions of the comic. So even though I am telling the Johnny Blaze origin story, there are elements of the Danny Ketch stories that I love and will include in the movie (so don't worry, Flamehead! Your beloved Danny Ketch will be there in spirit!). Caretaker will be there. And Blackheart. But so will Mephisto and Roxanne and the Quentin Carnival.

The script. People have mentioned the old David Goyer draft. Goyer wrote two really interesting versions of a Ghost Rider movie. I'd go to see either one of them. But my version is my own. The script is much closer to the comic. But at the same time, it's much more of a Western. A Supernatural Western is, I think, about the coolest idea ever. The Ghost Rider needs that open road as well as the city. I feel that is what makes him unique -- that he's a rider. Think Mad Max. Unforgiven. We have huge battles in the city but, ultimately, they will end up out in the desert.

The Hellcycle. Well, it's simply unbelievable. It's sculpt is finished and it went into the molds last week. It's the Chopper from Hell. No doubt about it. This is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life. The toys and the video game are already in the works and they are going to kick ass!

Krstyal Method Billboard Erected Near Times Square

bllboard.jpg

Source: www.avn.com Ron Martin

NEW YORK - Club Jenna and Vivid Entertainment continue to utilize a billboard near Times Square to promote their latest releases, recently changing their four-story tall billboard to promote Krystal Method and J22, an erectile enhancer sold by Club Jenna.

The newest ad on the billboard, which Club Jenna and Vivid have used for over a year, marks only the second time that a replica of a box cover was used. Most of the ads placed on the billboard space promoted Jameson as a celebrity, rather than an individual title.

The billboard faces south and west above Broadway between 47th and 48th streets. It is owned by Artkraft Strauss of New York City.

The box cover for Krystal Method features both Steal and Jameson wearing matching lingerie.

Krystal Method is the first video featuring Club Jenna exclusive Krystal Steal. Steal is described by Jameson as “without any question one of the best new talents the adult industry has seen in many years. She’s only 21 and she has a wonderful future ahead of her. She has exquisite beauty, talent and energy, and I’m proud that she’s my first protégé and is a ‘ClubJenna Girl.’”

According to Club Jenna, the inclusion of an ad for J22, an erectile enhancer sold by Club Jenna, is the first time that product category has been advertised on Broadway billboards.

Johnny Ramone Statue Unveiled

johnnystat.jpg

Linda Cummings attends the unveiling of a statue in memory of her husband, Johnny Ramone, at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on January 14, 2005, in Hollywood.

Vedder, Zombie, Kiedis remember Ramones guitarist in L.A.

Several of Johnny Ramone's friends -- including Eddie Vedder, Rob Zombie, Pete Yorn, John Frusciante, Anthony Kiedis and Nicolas Cage -- gathered at Los Angeles' Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Friday, January 14th, to unveil a four-feet tall bronze statue of the guitarist, who according to Cage's speech, "willed the Ramones to happen."

About a thousand fans gathered for the mid-afternoon ceremony, to hear speeches by many of those closest to Johnny Ramone (whose real name was John Cummings), and to see the $100,000 statue, which Ramone bought himself. "He saw it as something for the fans to come see," former Ramones' drummer Tommy Ramone said in the makeshift backstage area of the cemetery just behind a cathedral.

Though it's been about four months since Johnny Ramone passed away after a long battle with prostate cancer, the day stirred a lot of emotion in his friends, starting with former bandmate C.J. Ramone, who broke down several times as he recalled the influence Johnny had on his life.

Frusicante was also visibly shaken as he recalled his friendship with the guitarist. "Johnny Ramone had an immense heart and was as sweet and kind as can be," the Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist said from the podium. "No one has ever been consistently kinder to me. The music he made, as well as his thoughts about music will always have a powerful effect on any music I will make."

Vedder gave one of the most moving speeches, as he opened up to explain the profound influence Johnny Ramone had on him: "He wasn't just a friend, he was a teacher. I don't think there's anyone else I've learned as much from in my life, having grown up without a father. I really can't imagine who I would be today, what my personal makeup would be if it weren't for the personal relationship I had with John."

With his wife and baby daughter Olivia sitting in the front row, the Pearl Jam singer became choked up at the end of his toast as he thought about Ramone's death at the young age of fifty. Referring to the fact Ramone should've lived until he was eighty, Vedder said multiple times, "I want those thirty years."

Rob Zombie, wearing a Ramones T-shirt, explained how the statue came to be. "Every Christmas trying to find Johnny a gift was impossible," he said. "So I thought what I would do is have my friend Wayne [Toth] sculpt an award that just said 'legend,' and I would present it to him at Christmastime." Zombie then recalled how, as a joke, he suggested to Ramone that he make a giant version of the award. "Now this joke is sitting over there. It weighs 50,000 pounds, and it's made of bronze."

Following a speech by actor/musician Vincent Gallo, Ramone's widow, Linda, led everyone to the statue for its unveiling.

Lisa Marie Presley, who did not speak during the ceremony, told Rolling Stone that Ramone would've loved all the attention. "This statue was really important to him," she said. "When we drove up and I saw the cars, the people, the cameras and the fans, I went, 'Johnny would be happier than a pig in slop right now. He's just grinning like there's no tomorrow.

Traci Lords in Makeup Commercial Featuring Her New Single

lords.jpg

Source: www.avn.com Scott Ross

LOS ANGELES - Last week the Associated Press reported that Traci Lords was going to be featured in a commercial for Duprey Cosmetics.

However, the two-minute long commercial seems to be just as much about Lords as Duprey’s boutique line of cosmetics.

Not mentioned in the press report is that the commercial is synced to “You Burn Inside Me,” one of the songs from Lords’ new EP .

And a two-minute spot is not a traditional broadcast length, suggesting that the commercial isn’t intended for mass distribution.

The commercial was directed by Mike Ruiz, who last year directed Lords’ cover of the Missing Peoples’ single “Walking in L.A."

Lords is self-distributing Sunshine, her new EP.

1000 Fires, Lord's debut album, was released in 1995

Leguizamo Talks Land Of The Dead

FLSH2.jpg Paige, George Romero, and AZ 2004

John Leguizamo, who appears in the upcoming new George A. Romero zombie movie Land of the Dead, told SCI FI Wire that the sequel is the final installment in Romero's walking-dead series. "I'm hoping that it's [Romero's] masterpiece," Leguizamo said in an interview. "I have a lot of high hopes for that, because I love the man. He [is] 68 years old, and he's still building his career, and he's at the top of his game. We're doing all night shoots, exteriors, and he's smoking and drinking tons of coffee."

Leguizamo plays a zombie hunter named Cholo in the sequel to 1985's Day of the Dead. He said the movie has a lot of social and political undertones. "It's an apocalyptic world, and it's very political, too, but it's more of an action [movie]," Leguizamo said. "It's very operatic, too. It's a very ambitious piece. It's an action movie. It's political. It's got a little bit of comic relief as well. The zombies have taken over, and there are only certain patches of right-wing people controlling everything, and then the working-class people like me and Simon Baker come in and ... try to help get supplies from the zombies.”

Leguizamo said that he thinks the recent renaissance of zombie movies resulted from the current political climate, particularly in America. "It's a weird thing, [and] I've got my own hypothesis about that," he said. "I think it all has to do with the situation with the war in Iraq and all of that. I think it lightens things up when you can't take death so seriously. It lightens it up and plays with that anxiety. I think it has to do with a sort of right-wing, neo-conservatives controlling things and corporate power." Land of the Dead opens Oct. 21.

Skeeter Kerkove Rushed to Hospital

1avnskeeterintr.jpg
AZ and Skeeter In Las Vegas

Source: www.adultfyi.com By-Gene Ross

Porn Valley- I spoke to Skeeter Kerkove, www.bkmax.com Monday morning, and Skeeter was explaining the strange malady that gripped him over the weekend. Skeeter hadn't been feeling well during his shoot, Saturday. But Sunday is when it really hit him.

"I figured out what was wrong with me Saturday," he said. "Last night at about 6 o'clock I just finished a call and all of a sudden the top of my head broke out in a sweat. I had just finished taking a shower and shaved my head and my face, everything. Then my left hand started getting literally wet like I dipped it in water. And then it cramped. It went all numb and tingly. Then my left leg. I went down to the ground. I thought I was having a heart attack."

Skeeter said he attempted to Dial 911. "But it wouldn't go through." Skeeter said he then had his mother call 911 for him. "I could barely talk." Skeeter said in the mean time he tried to make it to the front door as his mother was giving paramedics directions to the house.

"I couldn't breathe at all any more," he says. "That's when I went out. I was half way out my front door. I had my keys in my hand but I couldn't get the alarm to go off on my car because it has a panic alarm. With all the lights going off, the paramedics can at least find you." Skeeter says he woke up in the ambulance. "I was completely shaking and grabbing that oxygen-thing out of my nose. They were getting me all calmed down. I was told I was having a nervous breakdown, a full on, crazy panic attack. My blood pressure would go up to 169 over 110. Then they gave me an EKG to put me at rest that I didn't have a heart attack. They gave me a prescription for Xanax. I told the doctor I don't take drugs. I drink alcohol, coffeee and smoke but I don't take pills."

Skeeter said he was found in his boxers. "I was so funny because I have tattoos, the first thing they thought was drug overdose." Skeeter says he's had panic attacks before but nothing ever like this. "Never, ever. Jim Powers had one two months ago and they had to take him to the hospital. It was weird because my whole body was shaking and I couldn't stop it. I'm like what the fuck is wrong with me. The guy is going, your brain is shutting down. You've had an overload, too much stress. You've got to make changes in your life."

Skeeter surmises part of it has to do with grifters and dealing with business issues.

Inside Deep Throat At Sundance / Interview

inside.jpg

Sundance- Generally considered the most profitable film of all time, “Deep Throat” , www.xxxdeepthroat.com, was routinely released in a midtown Manhattan adult theater in June 1972 but soon became the flashpoint for an unprecedented social and political firestorm. The sexually explicit film, barely one hour long and produced for less than $25,000, unexpectedly became a cultural phenomenon at the moment when the nation's movements of sexual liberation, equal rights and questioning authority demanded a combustible focus. More than 30 years later, this new documentary examines the chasm between the modest intentions of the filmmakers behind “Deep Throat” and the enduring impact and legacy that their film left on society.

INSIDE DEEP THROAT is a Universal Pictures release, an HBO/Cinemax Documentary Films -- Imagine Entertainment Presentation of a World Of Wonder Production and was produced by Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and HBO's Sheila Nevins. The film was written and directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, who caused a sensation at the Sundance Film Festival 2003 with “Party Monster”, starring Macaulay Culkin in the true story of 80s club kid and eventual murderer Michael Alig.

Screening times:

Porn Valley- Randy Barbato and Fenton Baily, the men credited with directing the documentary Inside Deep Throat, www.xxxdeepthroat.com which premieres this week at Sundance did a recent Q & A on the World of Wonder website.

Growing up in the Deep Throat era, Barbato said for him it was a time where you didn't talk about pornography. "Or you didn't talk about sex," he says. "I lived in a very suburban neighborhood in New Jersey. I don't think I knew what Deep Throat meant, other than it made my mother and her friends blush and giggle."

Bailey said as a kid he had a vague idea that "there was some kind of movie out there called Deep Throat".

"But I didn't know what it actually meant," he said. "It was kind of like a code word, and if you didn't know the code, you were shut out of this secret world."

When was the first time you saw Deep Throat?

FENTON BAILEY: We didn't actually see the movie until we started to make the documentary. It was Christmas, some friends were over and we thought, let's put it on. The holiday spirit just evaporated. It was kind of icky-making and uncomfortable to watch. Lots of it is out of focus, sort of out of sync, it's not very well edited and the acting is, er, not so good. Like the director Jerry Damiano said, it's not a good film. And it's also from a time when the notion of what makes a person attractive on film has changed considerably. There was a lack of grooming, I suppose. In the end we had to stop and turn it off and play a Christmas party game instead.

RANDY BARBATO:. We were all very embarrassed, even though our friends are pretty hard to shock. Which is interesting because back then in the '70s middle-aged middle-class people actually went to movie theaters and watched this film in public. Today of course, if anybody wants to watch pornography, they do it in secret.

FENTON BAILEY: The privatization of sex and the fact that people look at it on their computer screens alone, it's kind of a shame. I'm not advocating public orgies or anything like that. But you have to admit that the degree of shame attached to sex today is a great regret. And it clearly was so different then. And "then" wasn't so very long ago. And so it seemed worth asking, What happened?

How did you come to make this Inside Deep Throat?

RANDY BARBATO: Fortunately we were chosen. By Brian Grazer.

FENTON BAILEY: We had made a film called The Eyes Of Tammy Faye that did okay at Sundance, and there we met one of the nicest people in the business, Kim Roth.

RANDY BARBATO: In fact, she's so nice you wonder what she's doing in the business.

FENTON BAILEY: So we had heard that Brian Grazer was planning on making a biopic about Linda Lovelace. And Angelina Jolie, tearing a page out of Madonna's book, was campaigning to play the part. So we did our own Joliefication and suggested we should direct the film.

RANDY BARBATO: Except that we thought Mariah Carey should play Linda Lovelace.

FENTON BAILEY: And Kim was gracious enough to indulge us with a meet-and-greet.

RANDY BARBATO: And then nothing happened.

FENTON BAILEY: As you would expect it to.

RANDY BARBATO: But then Linda Lovelace died. And I think Brian felt that when Linda died, doing a film about her life was problematic because there isn't a very satisfying cinematic arc to her story.

FENTON BAILEY: So he had the idea to make a documentary instead of a feature. And then he had a beauty contest of highly-noted documentarians, and fortunately we seemed to win that particular pageant.

What was it like working with one of Hollywood's most powerful producers?

FENTON BAILEY: Well Hollywood moguls have a reputation for making the people around them crawl around in fear. But he makes it very easy to be yourself around him. There were no mogul antics to dish about!

RANDY BARBATO: There were some mogul-y touches. It was cool to watch the cut in his screening room; the screen is vast. It was cool to fly on the jet. Making documentaries doesn't call for much in the way of travel by private jet, sadly.

FENTON BAILEY: Normally when making documentaries you're carrying all the equipment and figuring out where to park the van. And it's just been great to be able to do this on a scale, thanks to him, where you can really think about the film and not worry about the van.

RANDY BARBATO: And throughout the process he was just so interested and engaged. This wasn't something he was just going to put his name on, and walk away from. And he was always challenging us

FENTON BAILEY: I lost count of the number of times he called us up and said, "No really guys, what is this film about?" We were just tearing our hair out. He was right, of course, because for the longest time we had no idea.

RANDY BARBATO: We knew it was an important moment, and we knew that it had significant cultural impact. But we didn't know much more than that. He gave us an extraordinary amount of room in terms of figuring out what this film was.

Every Picture Tells A Story: MK Krew Takes On AVN AEE In Vegas

1avncarmenluvdamage.jpg

Adam and Eve's Lovely, Carmen Luvana

The Photgraphic Evidence: MK's visit to AVN AEE 2005 images now posted in our galleries.

I, AZ, found out a week prior to heading out to Las Vegas to the Adult Video News Adult Entertainment Expo that it would be a Grego-less trip. And after a year of planning it seemed doomed from there. However, it'd be just Karlton our greatest glamour photo bug and yours truly. I had Talia Juliette the former porn starlet, and current Vegas based fetish model, who appeared in a number of films under the name Midnight Isis added in Grego's place.

NINE INCH NAILS: 'With Teeth' Gets A Release Date

NAILSLOGO.jpg

According to a representative at Universal in Sweden, NINE INCH NAILS' new album, "With Teeth", will be released in Europe on May 2 — presumably one day ahead of its North American release date (as is common practice for established international recording artists).

"With Teeth" will contain 12 tracks, and is said to be "more song-orientated" than 1999's "The Fragile".

"With Teeth" was recorded in part at Sound City Studio in Van Nuys, Ca., and features a guest appearance on drums by former NIRVANA drummer/current FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl. Mixing duties were handled by Alan Moulder (THE CURE, SMASHING PUMPKINS).

NINE INCH NAILS' current touring lineup is believed to include drummer Jerome Dillon, bassist Jeordie White (a.k.a. Twiggy Ramirez, A PERFECT CIRCLE, ex-MARILYN MANSON) and keyboardist Alessandro Cortini.

PRONG guitarist/vocalist Tommy Victor and drummer Dan Laudo have been working on 10 new songs and hope to get into the recording studio soon and lay them down.

In other news, PRONG are among the artists that have been confirmed to appear a benefit concert on Thursday, January 20 at the Hard Rock Café in Beverly Hills, California to raise funds to pay for the surgery and medical treatment of Raven Nicole Robinson, a five-month-old girl born with a very large hole in between the right and left pumping chambers of her heart. Also scheduled to appear are members of IRON MAIDEN, ANDREW W.K., MURDERDOLLS, TYPE O NEGATIVE, DISTURBED, POISON, GUNS N' ROSES, AC/DC, ORGY, DANZIG, FEAR FACTORY, W.A.S.P., BANG TANGO, QUIET RIOT, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, CINDERELLA, LYNCH MOB, DANGER DANGER, MINISTRY, MISFITS and GREAT WHITE.

PRONG are currently working on their first DVD, "The Vault", featuring all eras of the band's career — from the CBGB days to the group's 2004 tour in support of "Scorpio Rising". A March release is expected.

"Scorpio Rising" was released in the U.S. early last year through Locomotive Music. The CD, which was produced by Victor and Steve Bruno, marked the group's first studio effort since 1996's "Rude Awakening".

Ashlee Simpson Ponders Orange Bowl Boos

ashsimp.jpg

By Charlie Amter from www.eonline.com

Is it possible 78,000 football fans at Miami's Pro Player stadium simply didn't care for Ashlee Simpson (news)'s vocal stylings when she was rounded booed during the Orange Bowl (news - web sites) halftime show?

Not according to the singer.

Simpson again tried to spin--if not hoedown--her way out of a national embarrassment this week by telling MTV the many reasons why she believes she was the subject of a hugely negative reaction among the football faithful watching USC and Okalahoma during the Jan. 3 BCS Championship Game.

The raven-haired popster, who blamed last year's Saturday Night Live lip-synching debacle on (a) her drummer and (b) a bad case of acid reflux, came up with a whole bunch of explanations for the booing this time out, and none had to do with her shrieking, voice-cracking performance.

"There were no ear monitors when we went on stage," Jessica's little sis told MTV.com.

"And trying to sing in a stadium where you can't hear yourself is kinda hard," the 21-year old added.

In the end, though, she did manage to soldier through a live rendition of "La La," a tune off her debut disc Autobiography. But if a bad sound system is at fault for her closing boos, what explains the jeers at the start of her performance?

"I was facing the Oklahoma Sooners [which had a bigger crowd on hand], and I was rooting for USC, and they played a clip of it, so maybe it was that those people didn't like me," she postulated.

The singer even offered up a strange sort of apology. "Maybe they were booing at me, maybe they were booing at the halftime show because the whole thing sucked. If they didn't like the performance, and that's what it was about, then sorry to them."

But apologies are simply not enough for some music fans, who recently started circulating an online petition demanding that Simpson quit her music career posthaste.

"We, the undersigned, are disgusted with Ashlee Simpson's horrible singing and hereby ask her to stop. Stop recording, touring, modeling and performing. We do not wish to see her again," the Stop Ashlee Simpson petition reads. "She cannot match the sound of her voice that can be found on her CDs, when she sings live. She simply yells the words (sometimes the wrong ones) into the mic." So far, more than 14,000 people have endorsed the sentiment.

Last year, an organization called H.O.P.E offered a Ashlee Simpson CD swap, in which former Simpson fans in New York could exchange their Simpson discs for a CD of what the group calls "one of higher entertainment quality."

Simpson can only hope crowds for her upcoming tour will be more sympathetic--the jaunt kicks off Feb. 18 at Los Angeles' Universal Amphitheater.

Ten Questions with Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative)

jk.jpg

From www.typeonegative.net

There is a new post on Type O's official website which consists of 10 questions with drummer Johnny Kelly in which he deals with issues regarding Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses, Peters health, and the next record.

1) Describe Johnny Kelly in three words.

JK) All things rock

2) Tell us something noone knows about the new type O Negatuve due out in 2005?

JK) If I told you, I'd have to kill you...

3) After the recent Damageplan shooting, has this made you reconider your own security at future concerts?

JK) I don't think that something like that is going to happen again but when someone comes on stage, I will definitely think twice as to why they're on the stage.

4) Are you vain?

JK) To an extent.

5) Are you kind to small mammals?

JK) I almost wrecked my truck trying to avoid a squirrel on I-80 this past Friday.

6) What is the latest on Pete Steele with regards to his health?

JK) Peter is still very much with us. If he does what his doctor told him to do, he'll be with us for a very long time.

7) You do alot of solo work with Dizzy Reed. Are you a fan of Guns n'roses?

JK) I am a huge GNR fan. Appetite For Destruction is one of the greatest albums of all time.

8) One of our editors, Teroz, is a Bon Jovi fan. Do you think this is healthy?

JK) I own two Bon Jovi cd's. Bon Jovi managed to survive a lot of trends throughout the years and I salute anyone that openly admits that they're a fan.

9) Is it true you are doing a charity gig in LA on January 20th with Dizzy Reed et al?

JK) Yes, it's at the Hard Rock Café in Los Angeles. There's going to be a lot of people participating and everyone should come out for a good cause. Go to www.happeninharry.com for details. I'm note sure if Dizzy is going to be a part of the show but I hope he is. I haven't seen him in a few months and playing with him is always a great time.

10) What are your plans for 2005?

JK) I hope to have a new Type O cd completed but I'm not sure when it's going to be finished and released. Getting Blackwater Rising's (a side project with Kenny from Type O) recordings completed and doing some gigs with that. More shows with my Led Zeppelin tribute band, Earls Court and maybe some more trips to Chicago with Happenin Harry.

Vivid-Brand Nightclub Opens in Las Vegas

vivclub.jpg

By: Scott Ross www.avn.com

LAS VEGAS - VIVID opened to the public earlier this week, a new nightclub in the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino that is the result of a licensing agreement between Vivid Entertainment and ARK Restaurants Corp.

While some would argue an upscale gentleman’s club would have been more in sync with the Vivid image, and Vivid co-founder and co-chairman Steven Hirsch reports he was in fact approached by several companies regarding a Vivid-themed strip club in Las Vegas, it wasn’t the “right deal” for the brand. “A strip club is what we would be expected to do. We believe there’s an even bigger upside for Vivid the company, and the brand, to associate ourselves with a great companies like ARK and the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino,” Hirsch told AVN.com.

“The venture further extends our branding program into mainstream entertainment," Hirsch added.

Vivid has signed a number of licensing deals with mainstream companies in recent years, allowing their brand on a diverse array of products ranging from snowboards to mainstream books. In fact, the VIVID club isn’t the only place you’ll find the Vivid brand in the Venetian. Vivid-branded condoms can be found in the Venetian’s stores, and every other hotel and casino in Las Vegas for that matter.

Before signing the VIVID deal, Vivid spent quite a bit of time getting to know the people behind ARK Restaurant Corp, a publicly traded company that owns and operates 22 restaurants and bars across the country. “I think they believe in us and they aren’t worried about working with an adult company,” Hirsch said.

Paul Gordon, senior vice president and director of ARK, was excited to be able to use the Vivid trademark in branding a nightclub. "We believe Vivid conveys a lifestyle that is synonymous with excitement and energy," he said.

Located at The Venetian on the second-level balcony overlooking the Las Vegas Strip, VIVID, formerly known as the Venus bar, held their grand-opening Saturday night, a gathering of adult industry VIP’s and mainstream celebrities including several NFL players, doubling as an after party for the AVN Awards Show.

The state-of-the-art club opened to the public on Tuesday, January 11. VIVID is the first and only Las Vegas space to feature holographic images of dancing girls projected throughout the club. These three-dimensional silhouette images are reflected onto "trans-screens," large panels of glass hung above the banquettes, to create the illusion of live dancers.

Another high-tech aspect of VIVID is the club’s dance floor, which is surrounded by a 25-ft. wide light-emitting wall containing thousands of tiny bulbs. Images on a unique light wall are controlled and synchronized by a proprietary electronic music program.

The club's interior design features the rich colors of dark stained wood columns highlighting violet and burgundy wall coverings.

"It's a really beautiful space and will take its place among the top clubs in Las Vegas. It will be designed to reflect the vibrancy and sensuality of the Vivid image,” Hirsch said.

However, fans of Vivid titles will not be able to purchase them at the club VIVID, though Vivid-branded merchandise such as T-shirts and hats will soon be available.

Hirsch indicates that VIVID is more than just licensing deal to him. “We’ll definitely be involved with the day-to-day operations of the club. We’re going to make sure the club is accepted. And the club is going to evolve. We’re working on incorporating several different branding devices into the club.”

And talks are already underway to open more VIVID nightclubs across the country.

The Vivid Girls won’t be at the club at all times, but Hirsch hints that as Vegas is one of their favorite destinations, they’ll be visiting VIVID frequently.

In other Vivid news, Hirsch reports that just days after announcing a deal with Lil’ Jon to host two adult videos, Vivid is close to signing another multi-platinum hip-hop artist to a similar deal.

Joy Division Singer's Story On Screen

iancurtis.jpg

Source: www.darkhorizons.com

After several false starts, the planned biopic of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis will finally roll before cameras later in the year reports Time Out. Anthony Wilson, former head of the band's label Factory Records, revealed that the film is tentatively titled "Control", and will be based on 'Touching From A Distance', the book Deborah Curtis wrote about her husband's life.

Though many efforts have been made to bring his story to the big screen through the years, 'Control' marks the first time his family have lent their support to a project. Wilson himself will executive produce the movie, while rock photographer Anton Corbijn - who has worked with everyone from U2 to Depeche Mode to Joy Division themselves - will direct.

Ian Curtis was the lead singer of Joy Division before his suicide in 1980, shortly before the band was due to embark to a tour of America. The year before the band had begun to achieve good success, just as Curtis' health took a turn for the worse. An epileptic, he frequently had fits whilst on stage and was found hanged in his home in May 1980. The rest of the band went on to form the highly successful 'New Order'.

No word yet on who'll play the singer, but casting takes place in March and some 'very established screen actors' have been approached for the role.

Phil Spector Losing It?

spector.jpg

Transcripts of police interrogation sessions with accused murderer Phil Spector show that the famed record producer behaved bizarrely and changed his story about what happened in his Alhambra mansion, where actress Lana Clarkson was fatally shot early last year. Spector first told police that he shot Clarkson accidentally, saying “This is the most devastating thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” and “The gun went off accidentally. I don’t know how it happened,” according to a Los Angeles Times report on the 44 pages of transcripts unsealed Monday. But Spector later told police that Clarkson “had no right” to kill herself in his house and called her an obscene name (the Times is a family newspaper) for “blowing her brains out” there. Early in his interrogation, Spector reportedly offered to cooperate with police: “Just ask me and I’ll tell you,” he said. “I’m not Robert Blake.”

Hot Tammy Pleads Guilty

Tammy Imre.jpg

From www.adultfyi.com

And they said these things only happpened in Indiana.

Connecticut- A Connecticut mother facing sexual assault charges for a relationship she allegedly had with an 8-year-old boy pleaded guilty Tuesday to a new charge of risk of injury to a minor.

Tammy Imre of Bridgeport has been held on $250,000 bond since November, when an indictment charged her with first- and fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor stemming from her alleged involvement with her daughter's schoolmate.

The original charges stem from a letter the boy's mother allegedly found in her son's pocket from Imre.

"I don't want anyone but you!" the letter said, according to an affidavit. "Now tomorrow it's supposed to rain, you can come over we can (you know what)... we can come upstairs, ok? Love ya! I want you!" Authorities claim Imre, 29, also admitted in a statement to police that she considered the relationship "like a fantasy and she was the girlfriend and he was the boyfriend and that someday they could end up together in a relationship," according to the indictment.

The new charge stems from statements Imre's daughter allegedly made to police claiming she had seen her mother and the boy engaging in sexual acts.

Prosecutor Cornelius Kelly declined to comment on the motions.

According to an affidavit, when police asked Imre's daughter why she thought they wanted to speak with her, "she quickly stated that the 'victim' was doing disgusting things with her mom."

She told police she had witnessed the pair "humping," and kissing, licking and undressing each other, and even claimed to have witnessed the victim shaving her mother's genital area with a razor, the affidavit states.

Meanwhile, Imre's lawyer, Donald Papscy, filed a motion to dismiss the sexual assault charges against his client.

"Based on the statements as they were given to police, we don't believe they are strong enough to support allegation of sexual assault," Papscy told Courttv.com. He also filed a motion to suppress Imre's statements to investigators.

Papscy also filed a motion notifying prosecutors that Imre would undergo a mental-health evaluation, indicating he planned to pursue a defense of mental deficiency.

The next hearing was scheduled for Jan. 27 to address the motions.

Sirius and XM Poised to Challenge Over The Air Radio

redstern.jpg

Now that XM and Sirius have over four million satellite-radio subscribers between them and increasingly high-profile personalities (Howard Stern) and attractions (the NFL, etc.) to lure even more to their services, regular old radio companies with land-based transmitters have gotten together to remind people how important they are, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Clear Channel, Viacom, Entercom and others have joined forces to produce a series of promotional spots under the banner “Radio—you hear it here first.” The campaign, to which the companies are devoting some $28 million in airtime, debuts this week and reportedly features 30-second messages from artists including Ashanti, Avril Lavigne and Ludacris talking about how they owe everything to the exposure they gained on regular old local radio. While normal radio still has a collective audience of about 94 million compared to satellite’s four million, clearly someone sees a gathering threat.

GENE SIMMONS AVN AEE Update

geneavn1.jpg

During the AVN AEE weekend the MK Krew ran into many stars who are "not" porn stars, including Huey Lewis, Lemmy (of course), Steven Tyler, Gene Simmons, Heidi Fleiss, Evan aka Spyder (of Biohazard) and a few who may have eluded me for the time being.

I am having trouble accessing the photos K-Rawk sent me last evening, but we will have some posted by days end.Believe me, I am anxious to share the images with you ALL.

Gene Simmons attended the 2005 Adult Video News Awards on Saturday (Jan. 8) at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas and the 2005 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo on Saturday (Jan. 8) and Sunday (Jan. 9) at the Sand Expo Center in Las Vegas.

The follwoing entry is from www.genesimmons.com

"Came back from Las Vegas last night exhausted. My partner and I were there shooting a new reality TV show (mine). We're shooting the parties and events I go to. Lots of fun.

"The Adult Video Awards show was quite an event. The comedienne/hostess of the show (I'm embarrassed to say I've forgotten her name) picked on everyone. White people. Black people. Porn stars. Everyone...including me. Couldn't stop laughing. She was hilarious.

"During the days, we hit the conventions: The Adult Convention and the CES (Computer Electronics) Convention. Have never seen more people in Vegas. It was packed.

"We were barely able to get out of town (all flights were full) and while I was gulping down morning coffee at the airport, Cedric The Entertainer came over to say hello. A good guy. He mentioned he had seen footage of the upcoming John Travolta/Uma Thurman 'Be Cool' movie, (which is a follow up to 'Get Shorty'). I appear in the film as a cameo, sitting next to Cedric. Then, Sinbad came over (on his way elsewhere) and we all shot the s&%t for a while.

"Got up early today and spent a few hours with my co-writer on the other end of the phone. We were hashing out my next book: no title yet, but the general idea is: the oldest profession in the world...a rose by any other name, still means the same.
I'm fascinated by the idea that man is willing to pay for it, and always has. Yes. Even when he gets married. He will pay. He always pays.

"The book will be light-hearted, but will deal with issues I've found interesting.
Maybe you will, too.

"'My Dad The Rock Star', the cartoon show I'm proud to say I created, and which has been playing successfully around the world for two years, is finally going to premier in America on Nickelodeon on January the 31st. You'll soon be seeing advertising for it. Check it out."

Set Report: "Batman Begins"

BATMANPSTR.jpg

Source: The Silent Type / London, England / from DARK HORIZONS

When it comes to the BATMAN movies, the last thing I remember is leaving the cinema on a cold June day in 1997. I had just watched Joel Schumacher hammer the final nail into coffin in which lay the beloved Warner Bros. franchise. Online speculation had been rife and early word suggested that this wasn't exactly the film that fans had hoped for. The naysayers were correct, and even over $US100 million worldwide has failed to soften the negative impact that this film had on the series.

Now, with a few months left before it's release, the world is waiting to see how talented director Christopher Nolan will breathe new life into the Warner Bros. franchise with BATMAN BEGINS. Starring 5 Oscar nominees, this version couldn't be more different than Schumacher's project. The trailers have been intriguing, the artwork is impressive and the film could be exactly what we've been waiting for.

September 2004. Dark Horizons has been invited to visit the set of BATMAN BEGINS, which is currently filming for Warner Bros. in England. A series of 'fortunate events' have led me to London and it is at my new home in the UK that I get the call from Garth to report for duty.

On a windy but pleasant day, I find myself in one of the largest aircraft hangers in the world, located just outside London. As we take our seats within the hanger, we are told that we should get to meet director Christopher Nolan (MEMENTO, INSOMNIA), his partner and producer Emma Thomas, production designer Nathan Crowley and hopefully some of the cast, which includes Christian Bale as Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman as Lt. Gordon, Liam Neeson as Henri Ducard, Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes and Ken Watanabe as our villain, Ra's Al Ghul.

Christian Bale and Gary Oldman are both on set today and on the live feed from the shooting set, we can see repeated takes of Batman jumping out of his newly designed batmobile and after some dialogue which explains that *SPOILER ALERT* someone is about to release a toxic nerve gas on the city of Gotham. In take after take, we see Batman throw Lieutenant Gordon the keys to the awesome vehicle. Oldman seems in great spirits and when he appears to have trouble catching the keys, he bursts into laughter and jokes that he may as well give up. Not to worry Gary, only a couple of days left on this shoot - we are visiting on day 126 of 128.

In total there have been 163 sets built for this production and we are about to see one of the most incredible, which is Christopher Nolan's vision of the Gotham City slums. Production designer Nathan Crowley began his career as a Junior Set Designer on Steven Spielberg's HOOK and has since worked on BRAVEHEART, MAVERICK, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2, BEHIND ENEMY LINES and INSOMNIA. As he leads us through the enormous hanger, it becomes evident that Nolan has taken his cue from the Burton installments of the caped crusader's story, and completely ignored the hyper-realistic neon circus of Joel Schumacher's outings. Yellow cabs in various states of disrepair litter the streets below the elevated train tracks and to the side of one building lies a full sized train carriage-set, which is graffiti sprayed and I imagine authentic right down to the gum beneath the seats. Everything looks and feels like a dirty, cold, and dangerous city. We are brought into an area called 'The Narrows', the part of Gotham which is the slums and has been designed with images of a poor 'shanty town' in mind. The fully realized buildings rise towards the ceiling of the hanger, and seem to be linked by a web of clothes lines which stretch from one window to another. Nathan Crowley tells us that these buildings were heavily based on areas just outside Hong Kong, where the poor residents live in layers upon layers of small flats, which have grown almost organically upon one another.

Nathan introduces us to Andy Smith, who helped design and build the new batmobile. Moving away from the sleek cat-like design of the first four films, Christopher Nolan and Crowley tried to create a more functional and "realistic" car for our hero to drive. Andy and his team then built 5 of these fully working "sports-tanks", and an interior set (for shots inside the vehicle). Smith actually a hand in the design of the previous car according to Tim Burton's specifications, however this is the car he really wanted to build.

As he describes it, this batmobile is for men who really appreciate cars. Weighing in at 2.5 tonnes, the car has a 5.7 litre 350 Chevy engine and can do "0-60 in less than 6 seconds". After making sure that cameras and sound weren't rolling on the set, Andy actually started the engine of the car. Loud doesn't even begin to describe the noise from this beast. Whilst shooting exteriors in America, Andy said they really got to "try her out" and there is simply no contest between this and previous models.

After getting a good up-close look at the car, and wandering past the immense front steps to Arkham Asylum, we are taken back to our waiting room, where Christopher Nolan's wife and producer Emma Thomas explained how they approached the mammoth task of delivering the new Batman film and possibly revive the troubled franchise. "I don't think that we're feeling that pressure specifically, its not like we've got to do this, and they're breathing down our necks and [saying] 'This is our Golden Goose'' and 'revive it'. I think more than anything else Chris saw a story that he felt hadn't been told and really would love to make. This is a separate film and it's something Chris felt passionate about and has always wanted to do. It's not a specific pressure that we're feeling although obviously that is what we're doing." The studio has been sent dailies from the beginning and although it's more interesting for press to report clashes between the production and the studio, Emma explains that they have been "more supportive than interfering...and very hands off since we've been shooting".

When he first heard that another film was being discussed at the studio, Chris went to Warner Brothers and told them his initial ideas for the project. Then, Emma continues "we brought David Goyer on and came up with a much more firm idea of what the script was going to be and we went in and we pitched that, and the studio loved it. They absolutely adored what it was going to be and we were all very much on the same page right from the beginning."

Clearly impressed with the cast that they have managed to assemble for this film, Emma told us how lucky she feels to have an actor of Bale's caliber as their leading man. "Christian is a hugely talented actor and one of the things that our film does differently than the others is that you see a lot more of Bruce Wayne than you did in the other movies. He's as much of a character as Batman, and what Chris wanted to do was really understand who Bruce Wayne was so that Batman becomes a character that the audience can identify with or understand rather more. And so we need to cast an actor who had the range to play a fully fledge character and Christian is an enormously driven guy who is very very focused on his work and I think that that's a very important quality that Bruce Wayne has and so there's a certain identification between the two and he's quite amazing"

Emma mentioned her relief to the positive coverage the film has been receiving online. "I'm very happy that so far people seem to be happy with the choices that we've made and I hope that they'll continue to be happy. I mean one of the biggest pressures about making a film like this is that Batman is such a beloved character, that not only do we have to match our own expectations, but there's a lot of other people who've expectations that we need to live up to as well and that's enormously important to us. Having said all that, we do have to [be] focused on what we're doing and make the best film that we can make and hope that everyone agrees".

There have been rumors that Guy Pearce would make an appearance as Harvey Dent (who as many of us know, becomes the villainous Two-Face). Emma laughs and responds, "I love all these rumors. I won't be ruining it by saying he's NOT in the film. But I LOVE all these rumors, I don't know where they come from." We're also informed that there are no other surprise cameos.

It was almost lunchtime, and next up we were given some precious time with the man in charge of bringing this new version of Batman to the screen, acclaimed director Christopher Nolan.

First of all Nolan echoes everyone else's feelings that they are in control of a very important franchise, but must carry on and do what he feels is best. But why go from smaller, intimate thrillers to a big budget blockbuster? "I grew up watching huge blockbusters and really enjoying them as a kid and everything so I've always enjoyed films that, create a whole world and provide escapism [and that] create worlds outside of the one that you're actually in so it's been a great opportunity to actually try that."

"I mean obviously they had this great character sitting there and they weren't doing a thing with it because the previous round of sequels had sort of run their course. So I heard they were looking for something to do with it....[They were] looking for somebody to have a vision for what they'd do with it. And I was just very interested in the idea of creating a Batman from what I thought had never been made, which is in a way the one which you would expect them to make first, which is the origin story and the journey of the character from an ordinary person to Batman."

The thought of sequels is far from Nolan's mind at this stage. "I'm just concentrating on this one for now to be honest and trying to put as much as possible into this one. But clearly, the character has a limitless potential in terms of stories and movies. He's lasted as long as he has for that very reason." This film is clearly based more in reality than previous films. Nolan calls it a "heightened reality". As he explains "It's a recognizable world, it's a contemporary world, and yet extraordinary things are happening within it. It's trying to find a grounded basis in reality for all of the more extraordinary elements of the story."

As we board the coach to head back to London town, June 2005 seems too far away. The excitement on the set of BATMAN BEGINS is infectious, and as costume designer Day Murch had hoped, this one will erase any bad feelings about this particular franchise.

GENE SIMMONS Sued By Ex-Girlfriend

geneavn.jpg

Samuel Maull of The Associated Press is reporting that a woman who says she is a former girlfriend of KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons is suing him for slander, saying the bass guitarist made her sound like a "sex-addicted nymphomaniac" during a "rockumentary" on VH1 television.

Georgeann Walsh Ward, 53, of Chester, N.Y., says in court papers that a photo of her appeared 11 times during the report on KISS, shown on the network several times in July and August, while Simmons claimed to have had sexual encounters with 4,600 women.

The documentary, "When KISS Ruled The World", purported to chronicle the band's 30-year career, assess its impact on rock music, and expose the quartet's "wild" antics. The other band members were guitarist/singer Paul Stanley, drummer Peter Criss, and guitarist Ace Frehley.

Simmons says during the show, "There wasn't a girl that was off limits, and I enjoyed every one of them," court papers say.

At another point Simmons says, "I was a 24-hour whore. All I ever thought about was sex." This, court papers say, was shown and followed by a photo of Ward with Simmons.

Ward's papers say that because a photo of her with Simmons was shown during remarks about his sexual adventures, she was in effect portrayed as "wild" and "unchaste."

"The implication was that (Ward) was a prostitute and/or solicited prostitutes, and/or (she was) a sexually loose woman," court papers say.

Ward, married with a 21-year-old son, said she met Simmons at a concert in October 1972 when she was 21. For the next three years through fall of 1975, she says in court papers, they were in what she believed was "an exclusive, monogamous, romantic relationship."

During much of the time they were together, Ward's court papers say, Simmons was a college student and then a sixth-grade teacher "until the success of KISS propelled him out of the classroom and out of plaintiff's life."

Ward's lawsuit, filed Thursday in Manhattan's State Supreme Court, asks for unspecified damages from Simmons and his company, and from Viacom, VH1's parent company, for alleged defamation and invasion of privacy.

Laura Nelson, spokeswoman for Viacom, said she could not comment on pending litigation.

No spokesperson for Simmons could be reached for comment.

ACE FREHLEY's 'Remedy' To Receive Video Release In March

The movie "Remedy", starring former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley, will be released at the end of March, according to an e-mail received by BLABBERMOUTH.NET from the film's lead writer, Nicholas Reiner. Adult Entertainment Watchdog Forming Up

free.jpg

Source www.avn.com by Charles Farrar

LOS ANGELES - Protecting First Amendment rights while at once warding off attacks against Adult entertainment is the goal of the Adult Freedom Foundation, a newly forming group which vows to be a watchdog for the Adult entertainment world.

"It's almost formed," AFF media consultant John Pauly told AVNOnline.com January 5. "There's some legal papers that have to be filed to make a transfer of the name and that should be done this week. It's up and running for all practical purposes, but in order to get the Website up we have to have the name legally transferred."

The group's planned Website, Pauly said, has yet to be approved in final form by the group's various founders, though Pauly and general counsel Paul Cambira said the site was likely to get its final approval and posting by the end of the day January 6.

The AFF was formed by several Adult entertainment companies whom neither Pauly nor Cambria would identify, both men saying the companies believe what the AFF plans to do is more significant than the individual firms who brought it together.

They're determined to bring as strong a presence in countering myth and innuendo against Adult entertainment as they can, according to Cambria, who emphasized the group has no intention of trying to supplant such groups as Free Speech Coalition. He said he sees AFF as a kind of strike force covering the broad picture, rather than the more compact purview taken up by individual attorneys who often speak within the contexts of individual clients' battles.

"All too often, the Adult entertainment industry has been the target of misinformation and unfounded criticism," Cambria said in a formal statement announcing the group's formation. "The Adult Freedom Foundation will speak with a new voice. We plan to supply accurate and positive information to the public for a change."

In addition to offering media access to legal, scientific, and industry executives to counter what they consider false claims by politicians and pressure groups, the AFF said they will watch especially to stop uninformed groups, right wing and otherwise, from co-mingling child porn with lawful Adult entertainment in bids to outlaw both.

"It's been in the works for quite awhile," Cambria told AVNOnline.com. "It came together because there was a feeling, among a number of the major players in the industry, that, you know, there's so much propaganda being floated across America by these religious groups, these right-wing groups, that was inaccurate, that was inflammatory, and that needed to be answered.

"And it needed to be answered quickly," he continued, especially in such instances as recent U.S. Senate committee testimony attempting to prove porn as toxic or addictive material. "If you had [that] testimony before the Senate committee, [our] group would have responded to that immediately by not only debunking it but, in addition, drawing upon some other experts to counter it."

Cambria said the group's engaging Pauly as their media consultant and representative – Pauly has a background that includes investigative journalism in print and broadcast – is an indication the group is aiming to go big and long in defending Adult entertainment.

"We're going to be responding to everything," Cambria said. "If it takes television, we'll do that. If it takes writing, we'll do that. If it takes newspapers, we'll do that. Whatever it takes, that's what we'll do.

"That's what these companies wanted to do," he continued, referring to those who formed the AFF. "Counteract the propaganda, counteract the misinformation, counteract this agenda that these groups have of trying to make people think that child pornography is part of the Adult erotic world, or that the major [Adult entertainment] companies are involved in it. You need a unified voice, but you also need somebody who can respond immediately."

"The AFF… is dedicated to fighting child pornography," Pauly said. "While adamantly against child pornography, AFF believes adults should be allowed to enjoy erotic entertainment. And, that the average adult accepts that right for other adults to choose lawful erotic entertainment."

Top Photogs Give Vivid Girls the Vargas Treatment

vivid.jpg

Source: www.avn.com by Humphrey Pennyworth

NEW YORK - How do you turn Vivid Girls into Vargas Girls? Easy – get three of them (Tera Patrick, Savanna Samson, and Mercedez) in front of some of the top fashion photographers for the Vivid Gallery Collection, as photographers Richard Dean and Len Prince did.

"The pictures are Hollywood pinups meet modern Vargas/Elvgren," said Vivid vice president for licensing David Schlesinger, announcing the gallery, and referring to the classic pinup portraits by Alberto Vargas and Gil Elvgren.

"The images are romantic and sensual and are targeted to mainstream audiences and art collectors," Schlesinger continued. "They are not X-rated in any way.”

Patrick, Samson, and Mercedez posed with Dean and Prince in Manhattan December 6, the first of a planned series of such sessions with the Vivid Girls, with prints from that first shoot available beginning January 6.

The prices will vary, beginning under $100 for framed 8x10 prints and continuing up to large-size gallery prints selling for up to $10,000 at exclusive showings. They'll be available, Vivid said, through Vivid.com and the Vivid Gallery Collection initially and through the Vivid Girls' individual Websites later on. The future plan for the images also include a series of film noir images to be released later this year.

Dean and Prince both live in New York City, with Dean's repertoire including celebrity photography from Nicolas Cage and Martin Scorcese through U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, as well as advertising campaign work for Reebok, Nike, VH1, Fuji Film, and Phat Farm, to say nothing of covers for TV Guide, Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar, FHM, and the legendary Sport.

Prince's repertoire has included celebrity portraits, fashion images, nudes, stills, and cityscapes, with work appearing in Interview, Vanity Fair, and InStyle and for advertising by Estee Lauder and Cartier.

Evel Knievel Loses EXPN Suit

EVEL.jpg

WWW- Aging daredevil Evel Knievel cannot sue a Web site that ran a photo of him with two women above a caption reading "You're never too old to be a pimp," an appeals court ruled yesterday.

The term "pimp" was probably intended as a compliment, the court said.

The motorcycle maniac blew a gasket when he saw the photo in 2001 on EXPN.com showing Knievel, 66, with his arms around his wife and a second young woman.

He sued, but a Montana judge threw out the suit. Yesterday, he was revving up to take his case to the Supreme Court.

The judges "disregarded the goddamn law and they ought to be discharged, they ought to be ashamed of themselves," Knievel said. "What good is law in the United States of America if five or six goddamn bimbos are going to rule against it?"

The judges noted that the offending photo and caption ran alongside shots of other people with captions that, in the words of a lower court ruling, "contained loose, figurative, slang language."

"Although the word 'pimp' may be reasonably capable of defamatory meaning when read in isolation, we agree with the district court's assessment that 'the term loses its meaning when considered in the context presented here,'" Judge Wallace Tashima wrote in the 2-1 decision.

"The term 'pimp' as used on the EXPN.com Web site was not intended as a criminal accusation, nor was it reasonably susceptible to such a literal interpretation. Ironically, it was most likely intended as a compliment."

FCC Investigates Vince's "Fuck" Remark

fvince.jpg

Associated Press

When he's not punching out hookers [allegedly]; when he's not punching out roadies [allegedly], Vince Neil is punching out the FCC.

When Motley Crüe's Vince Neil wished bandmate Tommy Lee a happy New Year live on NBC, he couldn't resist inserting a profanity - and now the FCC is involved.

The Federal Communications Commission has received complaints about the New Year's Eve "Tonight" show and is beginning a preliminary probe, a spokeswoman said yesterday.

But it's likely little will come of it.

Motley Crüe was performing shortly after midnight when Neil turned to Lee and said, "Happy Fucking New Year, Tommy!"

It was an off-the-cuff remark and not done intentionally to test broadcast rules, said a spokeswoman for the band who asked not to be identified.

Neither Motley Crüe nor NBC had any other comment Tuesday.

Jay Leno normally tapes the "Tonight" show, but did a live version for the East Coast on New Year's Eve.

Neil's remark was excised when the show was seen in other time slots.

U2 lead singer Bono used the same expletive at last year's Golden Globe Awards, which were also broadcast live by NBC. The network has said it will put this year's broadcast on a 10-second delay.

The FCC, in a March ruling issued after receiving hundreds of complaints about Bono, said the word should not be used on over-the-air radio or television programs when it's likely children will be listening.

But the Bono ruling did not apply to the hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., generally considered a "safe harbor" for rougher language. The commission said in its ruling that it would take complaints about language in those hours on a case-by-case basis.

Networks have been more cautious about material they air after singer Janet Jackson's Super Bowl performance last year.

Jackson was near the end of a Feb. 1 halftime duet with Justin Timberlake when Timberlake snatched off part of her bustier on stage, revealing one of her breasts, which was covered only by a sun-shaped piercing.

Those involved blamed the exposure on a "wardrobe malfunction."

GENE SIMMONS To Attend AVN AEE

GENE.jpg

KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons has posted the following message on his official web site:

"Tomorrow and the day after, my partner and I are going to be pitching two new television shows to networks. Names/concept cannot be divulged as yet (it's far too easy to rip something off based on a title).

"And the following day, will be meeting with a motion picture studio head to talk about film projects.

"And, this weekend, my partner and I plan on taking a camera crew to Las Vegas. We will be attending the AVN Awards and its convention, as well as the CES convention. We will also be attending/covering the parties afterwards. Footage to be shot will be for a new television series in the works. More news later."

NBC Unlikely To Face Any Financial Fallout From VINCE NEIL's F-Bomb

VINCE.jpg

Variety.com is reporting that viewers watching Friday night's live edition of "The Tonight Show" on NBC probably did a double-take when, just after the clock stuck midnight, MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil turned to his bandmate, drummer Tommy Lee, and said, "Happy fucking New Year, Tommy!" Because Jay Leno has aired a live New Year's edition for many years without problems, Peacock execs apparently decided against using a five-second delay on the broadcast.

Because "Tonight" airs after 10 p.m. — and thus outside the FCC's so-called safe harbor in which indecent programming is forbidden — it seems unlikely NBC will face any financial fallout from the slip-up. Still, given that many kids get to stay up late on New Year's, some parents might have been taken aback — though unlike the Super Bowl fiasco, Neil's use of profanity seems to have gone unnoticed by activist groups.

NBC edited out the offending word for West Coast viewers.

Elizabeth Starr Comments on Ringo Starr Suit

LIZSTARR.jpg

from www.hardcoregossip.com

Elizabeth Starr officially comments on a story that broke just after Christmas in which Ringo Starr is challenging her over a trademark application she filed, saying that Starr Productions is too close to his own name

LOS ANGELES - Adult film company Starr Productions released word on Christmas Eve that a trademark filing of their company name in a black and white logo has been challenged by music personality and former member of the Beatles Ringo Starr.

According to Starr Productions CEO Elizabeth Starr, the dispute now being made public stretches back almost a year, to when she first filed for the trademark in late 2003. How Starr found out about the company had less to do with legal filings and more to do with public billboards.

“Supposedly he was driving down Highland and saw my sign and wanted to know what was going on. Mr. Starkey's attorneys contacted my attorney. The attorneys were friends; they knew each other.”

According to Starr, negotiations between the two camps throughout the year led to pressure from the musician’s lawyers to give up seeking the trademark and to alter her company’s name for business purposes.

“I felt I was strong-armed to give up who I am, and they expected me to roll over for him; I basically told him I won’t do that.”

The day before the trademark probationary period had expired, the musician’s lawyers filed for a 30-day continuance. It was at this point Elizabeth Starr became upset and went public. “They can keep filing continuances, and they don’t have a leg to stand on,” she says.

The company feels the suit is entirely groundless.

“He feels that Starr Productions will somehow cause children and young adults to confuse the business with Ringo Starr. It’s ridiculous.” In addition to the two Starrs working in different fields, the CEO points out that the musician has never applied for a "Starr Productions" trademark.

“He has six trademarks. He’s never had any interest in a ‘Starr Productions’ trademark. ‘Ringo Starr’ is his trademark.”In fact, business names and trademarks with some form of the word “Starr” are numerous. A quick Internet has revealed an entertainment endeavor in Maryland by the ‘Starr Productions,’ as well as several other companies withnames derivative of Starr Productions, such as a theatrical agency called All-Starr Productions.

The search engine of the US Patent and Trademark Office reveals 185 patents that include or have included the word "Starr," including "Brenda Starr, Reporter." According to those listings, there are six trademarks listed for Ringo Starr held by the musician, in a variety of areas related to music and musical performance.

Elizabeth Starr is adamant she will hold her ground, and feels that doing so in public is merely a continuation of the battle she’s fought privately up until now.

“I wasn’t going to be bullied,” she said. “I re-financed my home to pay for this company.”

Although in operation for a little more than a year, Starr Productions offers a sizeable catalog anchored by the acquisition of the Fetish Films/Mother’s Productions lines. Just as Starr plans on growing her company, she wants to keep her chosen name in doing so.

“I’m not going to back down; I’m definitely not going to back down

German Cannibal Helps Rammstein Write New Single

Rammstein1.jpg

Bizarre and gruesome true story inspired 'Mein Teil.'

Source: www.mtv.com

The message posted in an Internet chat room read, "Seeking well-built man, 18-30 years old for slaughter." A few months later, a user responded: "I offer myself to you and will let you dine from my live body. Not butchery, dining!!
"

It wasn't a joke, and what followed was far more gruesome and bizarre than the plot of nearly any horror film. In March 2001, Armin Meiwes, a 42-year-old computer technician in Hesse, Germany, killed, dismembered and ate 43-year-old microchip engineer Bernd Juergen Brandes. While Brandes was still alive, the two dined on parts of his flesh together, then Meiwes stabbed him to death.

The incident captivated the European media, and provided East German industrial metal band Rammstein with some ripe new material with which to return from a three-year self-imposed exile.

"I was really interested to find out about why he would want to kill a man and eat [him]," guitarist Richard Kruspe said in a strong German accent. "What I figured out from some research was that Meiwes' mother totally destroyed all kinds of relationships he had in his childhood. So, he felt that if he did this, his victim would stay with him forever. It was just a really interesting story, so we decided to make a song about it."

The track about the cannibal, "Mein Teil," was released as a single in Europe last year, and will be the second single in North America, following "Amerika." Since Meiwes videotaped his entire grisly encounter with Brandes, Rammstein initially wanted to use some of the footage for the song's video. But the tape was in police custody. So instead, the band and director Zoran Bihac shot a stark, contrast-y clip in Berlin that had nothing to do with cannibalism.

"The director had everyone in the band come into the room for two hours and do anything he wanted. And nobody knew what the other guys were doing. It came out even darker than I thought it would. But I'd still like to see the police video."

The subject matter for "Mein Teil" is perhaps a crude metaphor for Rammstein circa 2001. Following their third album, Mutter, the bandmembers were tearing each other apart and consuming their collective creativity. It was only through intense self-examination and interpersonal reconstruction that the band was able to heal and record its fourth album, Reise, Reise.

"I'm such a control freak, and I definitely had a vision of where I wanted Mutter to go, so I was dictating the whole thing and didn't listen to anyone else's opinion," Kruspe said. "The guys were so mad at me, we were not talking at all. With all the flamethrowers that we use, I'm lucky I didn't go to sleep one night and then wake up with my bed burning."

The continued band discord and palpable tension that resulted forced Kruspe to leave Germany and move to New York, where he worked on some solo material and tried to mend his failing marriage. It was only after he agreed to a write in a more democratic fashion with his bandmates that Rammstein got back together in the studio. "I had to let go of saying everything has to be so perfect," he said. "Sometimes people have to make mistakes to finally feel good about what they're doing. It was more important to enjoy being together. So, we were much more relaxed and open to trying new things."

Filled with raw, chugging guitars, precise beats and deep quavering vocals, Reise, Reise is heavy, epic and operatic, and while it includes an abundance of claustrophobic samples, it's Rammstein's most unified and natural-sounding effort since their 1998 breakthrough, Sehnsucht.

"Mutter was mostly written by me on computer, so for this one we decided to write it all together," Kruspe said. "We went back to the rehearsing room, and started playing around to get back this energy we had before. It really brought the band back together stronger than ever."

Being more cohesive and committed will probably make it easier for Rammstein to weather the storm of controversy that will likely hit when "Mein Teil" is released domestically. But for now, the group is getting some practice with the mini-squall it's summoned with "Amerika," an anthemic track about capitalism and greed. The song has already been yanked from at least one station in Texas after a serviceman who spoke German called up and complained about the lyrics.

"It's really just sarcastic, so it's not that political, and New York is one of my favorite places," Kruspe said. "But for me, the most important thing for every human being to be complete is balance. When I watch America right now, it's not a balance. If you love strawberry cake, one piece is fine, but if you have to eat the whole cake it's too much."

"Batman Begins" Sneak Peek Report

BATBEGINS.jpg

Source: Batman on Film

Late last year a bunch of journos visited the UK set of "Batman Begins" shooting in a converted hangar including a mate named David who'll be sending along his report soon. In the meantime. the first piece of a multi-part extensive report from the set has gone up at the best of the dedicated Bat sites - Batman on Film.

"Christopher Nolan is a softly spoken, well-groomed young man. Its hard to believe that BATMAN BEGINS is only his 4th film. Harder still is it to believe that WB would entrust him with such a huge project. "I grew up watching huge blockbusters and I've always enjoyed films that create whole worlds that provide escapism by creating worlds outside of the one you're actually in so its been a great opportunity to try that."

Chris confesses that he has always had a desire to make a big budget spectacle of a movie. "Yeah I don't know why, now I ever wonder why I ever wanted to do that (laughs). They had this great character sitting around that they weren't doing anything with since the previous sequels had run their course. I was just very interested in the idea of creating a BATMAN film that I thought had never been made. Which in a way was the one you'd expect them to have made first which was the origin story, the journey of the character from an ordinary person to Batman."

When asked what Christian Bale brings to the iconic character, Nolan has nothing but praise, comparing Bales work ethic to Bruce Wayne himself. "He's marvelous, he just brings an incredible focus. The thing with Bruce Wayne, is he doesn't have any superpowers unless you count his incredible will. Really he's just an ordinary guy. I think one of the reasons the character is so appealing as a superhero. Christian has an incredible degree of focus and determination, which is what allows Bruce Wayne to do these extraordinary things. I think that's the main characteristic of his personality.""

Metal Edge: Over the years, you were always the most vocal about not going back to MÖTLEY CRÜE. Why go back now?

Tommy Lee: "I'm here… You know, I played on a couple of tracks, and [our manager's] been talking about people wanting us to come out and do some shows. I was like, 'Well, I'm making another record right now, the timing for this is fucking terrible, there's so much shit going on, but maybe I can kick the thing off and get it started...' I'm not sure, there's a lot of open things here, so we'll see what happens. Fuck, we haven't even rehearsed! [Laughing] [note: the interview was conducted prior to the press conference on Dec. 6 announcing the reunion tour] Here we are making a video and recording songs. This is so fucking weird. [Laughing]"

Metal Edge: Have you guys even been in contact at all?

Tommy Lee: No! Me and Nikki [Sixx, bass] were in there to record… Yesterday was the first time the four of us were even in a room together!"

Metal Edge: Did that feel weird?

Tommy Lee: "Yeah, it was fuckin' strange! And seeing Mick [Mars, guitar] was really freakin' me out… Really freakin' me out. I was sitting there yesterday when he walked in, and I was like, 'Whoah!' It made me extremely sad — it's just fuckin' crazy! The doctors are saying he's going to be fine by February, but they must know something I don't know. We're all supporting him, and we're all being buds, but it looks painful. I don't know what to say. It's quite a shocker, actually."

Metal Edge: How did the new material come about?

Tommy Lee: "One of the songs is a cover [ROLLING STONES' 'Street Fighting Man'], which I didn't play on — I think Josh Freese [A PERFECT CIRCLE] did. I think 'If I Die Tomorrow' came from SIMPLE PLAN. I played on that one, and 'Liar' is another one I played on. Then there's 'Sick Love Song' — that's the one that I told everyone should be the first single, but nobody's listening to me around here! I guess I can't expect them to, when you just jump in and everybody's already got it figured out!"

Metal Edge: It doesn't sound like getting back together was very organic.

Tommy Lee: "I'm going to be really honest with you, I just think this is all really rushed. First of all, my heart wants Mick to get well, and then let's go fuckin' rip it, it'll be awesome for one last time. But he's not in good health right now, and a lot of this doesn't feel good to me. Everyone else is in a good headspace here, but if I were running the show, I'd wait 'till he was absolutely one hundred percent, then go fuckin' rip it. This is scarin' me, but the doctors are saying he's gonna be fine. Who do I listen to around here? Paul Stanley [KISS] just had a hip replacement [at the same time as Mick], and he's still walking with a fucking cane, and that dude goes to the gym every day, he's in shape! That was only two months ago, and we're already talking about doing shows here!"

Metal Edge: The tour's set to start in February. Do you know how long it's supposed to last?

Tommy Lee: "From what I know, it's something like 35 shows in America, then Europe, Japan, Australia… But this shit could only last a week, we don't know…"

* MICK MARS Says MÖTLEY CRÜE Is Reuniting Because Of 'Greed'

The four members of MÖTLEY CRÜE were recently interviewed by Metal Edge magazine for a cover story about their upcoming reunion tour. Several excerpts from guitarist Mick Mars's portion of the interview follow:

Metal Edge: Other members of the band have said that they view the reunion as something vital in your recovery process. Do you view it that way?

Mick Mars: "No, because I refuse to be exploited. We all have reasons to come back. They have their side projects, but I don't think those are anything too serious. It's really rough for me being out on the road, it's rough keeping up with the schedule. It's rough enough for a healthy guy, but I weigh 112 pounds and I'm not fully recovered yet, and I've done all this stuff already that 's really wearing me down faster than I can heal."

Metal Edge: Was it rough for you on the road the last time MÖTLEY toured?

Mick Mars: "Pretty much. There's a lot of flying around, playing live at radio stations, then playing live at night, doing promotions like Macintosh — two, three, four places in a day. Even on a Lear jet, I still couldn't get healthy."

Metal Edge: Do you feel like you're recuperating at a decent pace now? Are you optimistic about being healthy enough to head out on tour in February?

Mick Mars: "Probably by then. It all depends how much they're going to schedule in between. It's kind of like if you wake up from a deep sleep, and have to go straight to work and can't go back to sleep — you're going to be tired. You need to catch up on sleep before you can really be awake. I have to be healthy before I really start working again."

Metal Edge: It seems like everyone's got their different reasons for going back to the band. Why do you think MÖTLEY is getting back together right now?

Mick Mars: "Greed. Not on my part. And I won't say on everyone else's part, but there is greed around me. There's greed in everything, though, not just this. It's everywhere."

* 25 New North American Tour Dates Officially Announced

During their live performance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on New Year's Eve, MÖTLEY CRÜE announced that, per intense fan demand, they are adding 25 new dates to their "Red, White & Crüe Tour 2005 ... Better Live Than Dead", presented by VH1 and VH1 Classic. Reuniting for a major tour for the first time in six years, MÖTLEY CRÜE has been the hottest ticket around. Since initially going on sale December 11 with the first 25 dates, the tour is now #1 on Pollstar's "Top 50 Tours."

After the initial 25 dates were announced at a Los Angeles press conference on December 6, fans in markets where dates had yet to be announced took to the Internet with "Bring The Crüe" campaigns, with thousands of fans using online petitions and the support of local radio stations to plead with MÖTLEY CRÜE to bring their show to them. At last count, campaigns had been launched in over 30 cities in North America.

According to Billboard magazine, this is the touring industry's worst year in history. Despite that, MÖTLEY is seeing great success. Allen Kovac, CEO of 10th Street Entertainment, MÖTLEY CRÜE's management company, said, "As soon as the initial tickets went on sale for the tour, we got offers for 70 more cities ... but we can only schedule 25 shows because of our European schedule so MÖTLEY CRÜE have let the fans decide where they are going."

Following is a complete list of MÖTLEY CRÜE's initial North American arena dates. The new dates will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, January 8 but fans wishing to get a jump on box office demand can get tickets early by going to www.vh1.com beginning January 3. Canadian fans can also get tickets early by going to www.hob.ca beginning January 3.

GENE $IMMON$ Vague New Projects For 2005

$immon$.jpg

from www.genesimmons.com

"A couple of years ago, I was fortunate to meet business partners who have also become my friends. One of the gents, in particular, and I have been able to 'connect' in business, in ways I have never connected with anyone.

"Some of the projects we've been working on in behind the scenes over the last few years are nearing completion and about to bear fruit.

"New Television Cable Network: Can't be specific regarding the content, nor the name of the entity, but we exist!!! We have yet to go on the air, but we soon will!!!. We own the entity outright and intend on making it a commercial success. When we're ready, we will be making a public announcement. Until then, work continues in our very own 'company named' 25,000 square foot building. We have a CEO, we have a Board Of Directors and at present, I am Chairman. But the physical hard work is being done by a great group of creative people on the ground. More news on this exciting venture soon.

"Motion Picture Company: Again...can't be specific re the name, nor the shape and form of the new entity, but suffice it to say we will soon be fully funded. Every producer in Hollywood heralds the coming of 'new fully funded companies,' but these announcements are almost always smoke and mirrors. Ours is not. The intent of our company is to make good, commercial 'American'-styled motion pictures...and television... and the licensing/merchandising/musical fallout...and buying libraries of content....and other things.

"Chinese Real Estate Project: This one is huge and is another project 'my partner' and I are involved in. I CAN tell you it's in China. I CANNOT tell you where, or what it actually is. Not just yet.

"South Korean DVD/CD Manufacturing Plant: My partners and I are finalizing the acquisition of the largest DVD/CD manufacturing plant in that part of the world. We have visited the site and I can tell you first hand, it's the most modern facility of its kind I have ever seen.

"There is another project we are going to be looking at, that involves an entire city. More than that, I can't say at the moment. But, the artist rendering of the 'project' takes my breath away...in size and scope.

"My cartoon show, 'My Dad The Rock Star', will soon be able to make a very exciting announcement. Read about it here first. Soon.

"New Television Show: I'll be announcing a new show I created for American television. It has already shot its first six episodes. I appear in the finale. More news soon.

"United Kingdom Television Show: Recently finished a six episodic English television show called 'Rock School', which will see the light of day in the early spring.

"New KISS Projects: Lots of 'em. And big. And, you'll be able to read about 'em as soon as it can be announced on KissOnline.com.

"And, boxing...Yes, boxing.

"And, potential horse racing project.

"And, I'm tired.... I think I'll go lie down and take a nap..."
