Finally Troma has begun its long-time-coming release of the "Toxic Crusaders" animated television series. This semi-classic cartoon was a children's spin off of the R-rated adult feature "Toxic Avenger." Troma's Saturday morning series unfortunately found itself in direct competition with the highly successful "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." Maybe a few years earlier or later would have helped the program become a hit, but after only 13 episodes it was pulled from the airwaves. Even so, volume 1 of the "Toxic Crusaders" is now on DVD for us reminisce and bask in the chemical glow. Episodes 1 through 4 are here and the "Toxic Crusaders" sing and slug their way across Tromaville as the evil Dr. Killemoff and his humanoid henchmen attempt to further pollute Toxie's hometown. Those with sharp ears should recognize the voice of Michael J. Pollard from "House of 1000 Corpses," "Sleepaway Camp 3" and "The Wild Angels."
This Troma DVD is a bit short on the extras but that won't deter fans of the show one iota.
